We're taking a look at Stone Deaf Pedals, and in this video Sam's got his hands on the PDF2 Paramentric Distortion, check one out here: www.pmtonline....
The PDF-2 is a parametric distortion, the follow up to Stone Deaf’s first ever pedal the popular PDF, and since it’s release, it’s kinda become known as the Josh Homme/Queens Of The Stone Age distortion tone in a box. Improving on the original PDF design, the PDF-2 offers a reduced noise floor, the addition of an adjustable gain control, and an extra foot switch to select either clean or dirty modes.A pretty versatile distortion, it offers anything from light, crunchy overdrives on the clean channel, right up to wild, high gain tones when you switch to dirty mode.
The parametric EQ controls really opens up the tonal possibilities, allowing you to sculpt unique overdrives that really cut through a mix, and are great for those cocked wah type tones. Along with the adjustable gain, there’s a Height knob which controls the amount of frequency cut or boost, with a plus or minus 20db range, a Frequency control to adjust the frequency you want to boost or cut, and this ranges from 35 hertz to 6 kilohertz, and finally, a bandwidth switch which sets the Q of the boost or cut, with 5 selectable positions from thin to fat.
The pedal itself looks great, it’s really solidly made, it features true bypass switching and can be powered by either a 9 volt power supply or battery. There’s also an expression pedal input, which allows you to sweep through the frequency range like you would with a wah pedal, but bear in mind, this is only compatible with the Stone Deaf EP-1 active expression pedal.
