According to Wikipedia:
"Interstate Love Song" is a song by the American rock band Stone Temple Pilots. Released in 1994, the song is from the second Stone Temple Pilots studio album, Purple. Considered to be one of the band's biggest hits, "Interstate Love Song" reached number one on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart on September 17, 1994. The song it replaced at number one was "Vasoline", also by Stone Temple Pilots. The song stayed at number one for 15 weeks, a record at the time. In 2003, "Interstate Love Song" was featured on the greatest hits compilation Thank You. In 2009, it was named the 58th best hard rock song of all time by VH1.
Lyrics:
Waiting on a Sunday afternoon
For what I read between the lines
Your lies
Feelin' like a hand that lost its ring
So do you laugh or does it cry?
Reply?
Leavin' on a southern train
Only yesterday you lied
Promises of what I seemed to be
Only watched the time go by
All of these things you said to me
Breathing is the hardest thing to do.
With all I've said and
all that's dead for you
You lied-Goodbye.
Leavin' on a southern train
only yesterday, you lied
Promises of what I seemed to be
Only watched the time go by
All of these things I said to you

Everyday after school I would hang out in my dad's card store and play MTG with him and the customers. My dad's radio was never changed from the local rock station so I must have heard this song hundreds of times before I even knew what it was. You don't have to know something to love it, to appreciate it. My dad passed away March 24th, 2015. Every time I hear this song, I think of him

Right? I feel like this would be a perfect song to introduce someone to 90’s rock to. The riff is kickass, but not too heavy, has a great bass line, and a beautiful chorus. Someone who hasn’t heard many 90’s alternative rock songs would probably really like this song.

Lead singer Scott Weiland wrote this song about his relationship troubles and his growing heroin addiction. When he wrote it, he thought about what kind of a liar he had become towards his fiancé, Janina Castaneda, and how he had promised to stay off drugs when they went to Atlanta to record Stone Temple Pilots' second album, Purple. He didn't keep that promise, but in phone calls, would tell Janina that everything was OK. The song is written from Janina's perspective, with Weiland imagining her seeing right through his lies.

Don’t really know what this song is actually about, but ever since I was a little kid, I always envisioned this song as making me feel like I’m on the way to my final destination, whatever that may be. Hard to explain but maybe someone else gets it. Like I’m on my last journey to my final destination in life. And it’s almost like an upbeat but depressing feel at the same time. Almost like I’m accepting my fate or something.

I realized recently that this town I’ve grown up in for 20+ years isnt where I want to raise a family. It’s a nice town but i got involved with so many of the wrong people when I was younger and it’s at the point where I’m always running into them and trying to stay straight (I don’t do drugs or get drunk on the daily anymore) and I have the best girlfriend ever who I want to marry and maybe have a family with if the world isn’t so fucked up by then. But this song...this song is what I’ll be playing when we drive off to our new home..where ever it may be...and it still hurts that I’ll be leaving my parents and my brother...and many old faces that I wish things have went better between us...I had many great friends but circumstances come and I came to the conclusion that none of these “friends” matter in the long run nor did they ever truly care about me. So yes, I will indeed be leaving on a “southern train” and still be thinking of all the things that they’ve said to me...

Lyrics Waiting on a Sunday afternoon For what I've read Between the lines Your lies Feeling like a hand In rusted shame So do you laugh Or does it cry Reply? Leaving on a Southern train Only yesterday you lied Promises of what I seemed to be Only watched the Time go by All of these things You said to me Breathing is the Hardest thing to do With all I've said and All that's dead for you You lied Goodbye Leaving on a Southern train Only yesterday you lied Promises of what I seemed to be Only watched the Time go by All of these things I said to you

The lyrics are handwritten in the liner notes (but I don't think people buy CDs anymore) so if memory serves, these lyrics are correct. Every time I listen to Meatplow, when Weiland sings "but not when the news is on", I always picture his little arrow to a side note where he writes, "as in, like, TV" :) The CD itself came with two art printings. I got the yellow imbricated version, but I see the flowery one more frequently.

YES , its an excellent tine but How come nobody ever appreciates the bass work in a song THE INTERSTATE LOVE SONG has a fantastic bass groove and would be this great song without it hava good listen to the bass , that's what you feel deep inside you know !!!

Paul Tetreault as a bassist it is easy for me to the bass in a song, but most people either hear it and think it is something else or just can't pick it up. This songon does have a killer bass line.

The chorus of this piece is sublime. It came out in the fall after Cobain died. When I first heard it, I remember thinking about him for some reason. I was 25 and felt my youth was slowly slipping away, and what a waste it was to lose Kurt. I guess because it has a melancholy feel. Its one of my favorites from the 90's.

Bass line brings me to a special place. Growing up to this seemed like nothing at all but now looking back makes me ache for it. One glance through the comment section on RU-vid videos like this is all one needs to see it. Today lacks true musical talent and these singers are dying at the same time.
