Stone Temple Pilots made its triumphant return to the stage at the Troubadour in Los Angeles where the group welcomed Jeff Gutt as their new lead singer. Read more: siriusxm.us/2jaNJbB
So I have known Jeff for 30 years now. I went to high school with him at Algonac High. I was in a band that Jeff would occasionally sit in with. Of course none of us were close to his level but that’s how he was. He never thought of himself as better than any of us. This song was one of our favorites and we played it along with other STP songs. The fact he is now their lead singer is something I can not process. He deserves all of this. This song was our good friend Joe T who died in 97, favorite song ever. He played bass in our little group. Keep rocking Jeff.
Talk about a moment that came full circle... Beautiful story man. Sorry to hear about your friend. It must be kind of weird seeing your friend sing this song... On one hand you feel happy for him.... Then on the next you think About your friend that you lost. Pretty heavy stuff dude.
@@nathanwalsh3028 you know what, you’re a good dude man. Thanks for the words and I’m not trying to sound to corny either but more people say ignorant shit on here and it’s good to know people still write cool stuff
Rebecca M well I feel like in some way he's Scott weiland reborn I'm not going to say he didn't channel Scott because he does and if it's done right it'll be good so Yes I feel he's got my vote
Jason O'donnell no he isn't. This version of "Still Remains" isn't the sane as Scott singing it they're both unique. And the band has a right to carry on.
Deep haunting quality is a good way to put it... I agree. There's a sadness and happiness at the same time too. They need to go on and this sounds like they can.
HUH?! Seen Scott live. not even close. You cant replace a singer. Just ask...GnR, Van Halen, even Jouney. Original, is original. Back ups just dont have the original connection. Big Mac, or..Big Carl. Just not the same.
So to everyone whining no Scott no STP I'll say this: Scott at one time was a great singer and frontman. But he made real bad choices in his life that affected everything around him, his family, his band and ultimately his life. It's a sad and tragic story. I watched Scott perform this very song back in 2013 and he was horrible. Jeff nailed it. Kretz and the Deleo brothers are awesome musicians who deserve continued support and success. Jeff seems to be a great fit for the band.
You know the old saying. The brightest stars burn the fastest. Scott was absolutely magnetic on stage, a mixture of David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix. Bad choices are pretty much part and parcel of being a musician in the modern world. We just have to accept it. I like Jeff, but he doesn't have that raw charisma that Scott did. No one could. So, more power to the band as a whole, I hope they do well, but for me, personally, STP died with Scott, just like Alice in Chains and Soundgarden. I still have their entire back catalog to listen to, though. Even though all my prophets and sages are now ghosts, their memory lingers on.
Scott was the best saddly his demons won. I saw him early in his career and he was phenomenal. The end of his career is absolutely sad you can just see him dying and not giving a shit😢
As a HUGE fan of STP, I am overjoyed to hear the old songs sung properly. This guy is not a clone of Scott but has a similar voice. Weiland couldn't sing these songs properly anymore. It sucks he died but Jeff will do the older material justice.
Scott Weiland passionately wrote this song for his first wife Janina Castaneda and released on the album Purple in 1994. Scott wasn't a man inside a box nor a drone of a fox tail mink. He was flyin high above glimpsing the tesseract's labyrinth.
The mark of a good song is I heard this once yesterday and just had to hear it again. That sounds just takes me right back to 1996 again. New singer is pretty damned good too. Glad to see STP it's still out there doing their thing.
Rebecca M A lot of the old bands from then are still making great music. Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters for starters. It was such a great decade for music, perhaps the last.
He's got a "chill factor" about him that I like. He sings calmly, even if he's rockin'! I like that. Time is only going to make him better! Great pick STP!
Love that Jeff is keeping the vocals of Scott alive while still making the song his own! There's a reason we loved Scott's voice and I'm happy Jeff's voice is very similar! Love this song!!
As a 25 year STP fan who was lucky enough to be there that night, right up close to the stage, I can say that this video does not do the performance justice. Live, it felt very real and solid. Rob, Dean, Eric were nails and Jeff did a great job though you could sense he was a little nervous (as anyone would be). It was a big moment. I think his confidence will grow and he will only get better with time. Liked the new song too. Also, I got to meet the guys afterward and Jeff was very humble and gracious. Really nice guys! Welcome back STP!!!
Big shoes to fill for sure. He has every right to be nervous. I think this guy is a nice guy with a good voice. Going to take some getting used to for me since it is much different to my ears.
Yes, he was. Im playin his music every day. Chester, i cant listen to anymore. I cry every single time. But. Love Audioslave, stargazer by andrew wood, Cobain, Winehouse, we've lost, but will always listen to
Look, Scott was incredible and unique, you cannot replace him with anyone...that being said, as long as Eric,Rob,and Dean can still make music, and we know they can, especially since you listen to STP for BOTH the music and vocals, I think they did great here with Jeff. The songs can now be played in the original key and he did a wonderful job with Still Remains...no one will ever be Scott and the band isn't asking you to forget him, just continue to love the music we all have loved since the 90's...I miss Scott all the time cause he was so charismatic on stage and the "face" of STP but he was 1/4 of the band and the band's voice on stage...he was a classic but I love all their music and will continue to now that I've heard Jeff...give him a break cause he is essentially filling shoes the size of David Lee Roth's like when Hagar replaced him...and people, the Doors could have carried on without Morrison, really. All in all, I'm happy to hear one of my favorite bands move on in the best way they could...I'll be in line for the new album and concert tix when they come to the East Coast...welcome back boys!
Well put myrhino! He shouldn't be expected to be Scott. However, for a hard-core Weiland fan, I have to admit, it still gives me that Weiland "hurt/pain" in the heart. But AFTER reading your comment, I felt better because it was so poignant. Excellent. Thanks! :)
myrhino I agree with all but your point about the doors. Without Jim, they were essentially a jazz jam band. Jim added the poetry, he added the mystery, and he added the sexuality. I suppose the same could be said about Scott. I've always drawn a lot of parallels between the two. I think Jim was "too" one of a kind, and if they tried to find the same energy in another, it would have been a fair forgery, at best. Scott was just as unique, I think, but the essence of the band wasn't tied to his antics nearly as much as The Doors.
Wow blowing ! as a hardcore fan I cant believe how good this version was... the singer has some quite good vibe of his own man !! niceee, STP deserves more GOOD times, such creative spirits DeLeo bross and Kurtz... IM HAPPY THAN EVER FOR YOU !! CANT WAIT FOR WORLD TOUR !!! THIS GOT ME SO EMOTIONAL
Holy sht choosing to perform this song, with Jeff and all, after so many years heavy, deep, captivating, eternal May you have a sweet and poetic rest, Scott Weiland
Scott's best performances with STP were behind him since 2001, drugs ruined him from there after. Absolute favorite frontman of all time but I'm not letting that cloud my judgement. He couldn't even do his own songs justice when STP reunited. Jeff does a great job and I will fully support them as they make new music
Happy to hear STP songs live again. Jeff seems like a good fit for the band and I wish him the best of luck. Props to STP for wanting to keep this train a rolling.
They could have featured soooo many songs to introduce their new singer. It's special to me that they chose this song. I think their new singer honors Scott's work and it shows. I've watched this like 7 times already. Love Still Remains
I have been a fan of STP and I become one of Jeff Gutts when he was on that competition show. Awesome match. His vocals are so authentic. Love this match.
ok let's put this in perspective Jeff is not a replacement clone ,he is a new chapter of STP while still holding the sound which made STP so unique. Just happy the music lives on...and continues.
Can't wait to see this STP lineup live. I saw STP with Scott many times over the years. Saw STP with Chester once and was impressed. Jeff is off to a great start.
I love how Jeff sounds different to Scott but his voice conveys PERFECTLY the emotional and spiritual burden of the songs... It's a pleasure beyond words....
I was sent this song by someone I met online over 20 years ago. We were long distance without meeting for 3 years. Life has thrown hell at us many times...yet here we are... & it's still the song which smacks of what love is & what it isn't.
Scott's voice is one of a few that defines my childhood, I was very sceptical that STP would continue on with a new vocalist. I can say this guy fits. There will NEVER be anyone with the stage presence or voice like Scott but this guy does a great job, now to see them live. I'm sure Scott would be proud to see his legacy and inspiration keeping his music alive
To everyone complaining: Just be happy that these guys decided to carry on and make new music. Compared to most of the garbage that is popular today, this is a gem!
That was phenomenal. All the haters need to appreciate what Jeff brings to this band. He is a proven singer with a ton of talent. Yes, Scott was one the greatest talents out of the 90's, but he is no longer with us. R.I.P. The band has now proven they can collaborate and write with Jeff. Just listen to the new single, Meadow. Great stuff is ahead for STP. Give the man a chance.
I'm sold; I mean, wtf were people expecting? A Scott Weiland clone or someone known from another band? They'd have bitched about that too. Hey, Scott was a great vocalist but he let his demons take him down. That doesn't mean this band should call it a day simply because he's gone. If anything I think he'd want them to carry on, and they're doing it whether people like it or not.
Ur right, I stick with that. Life goes on, and it's a pretty mature gesture to realize that and move forward. And I think they did it in the most respectful way: remaining members still value their friendship and partnership with SW, but once things went South and he's not here anymore, it's time to go on, respecting his legacy and giving Jeff a lifetime opportunity to join one of the greatest bands ever. Long live to STP
HEAVENLY addition to STP with Jeff Gutt... you will not find a more passionate, grounded and hungrier singer. Brilliant and a natural addition. Scott is smiling from above.
Jeff's voice is awesome! He fits right in! Scott is gone RIP, People need to stop comparing. We should be happy they will keep STP going. If you don't like it, go listen to 21 Pilots instead lol
Unreal how well you captured Scott. One of my favorite songs in life...and you nailed it ! Can't believe I just heard this version for the 1st time tonite.
This is a very great band! Scott had issues, this band suffered creativity due to it, it is just wonderful that jeff came along and stepped in to fill those hard to fill shoes. Great job! Hope you keep making great music.
They did good picking him. It is always hard for me to get into a new lead guy, especially from one of my favorite bands, but I'm happy with their pick. Still a fan
Obviously a beautiful and jarring rendition, with Jeff more than doing the song justice. But, can we just take a sec and appreciate the incredible tone of Eric's snare?! My f*cking goodness. That is how a snare should sound.
No disrespect, as I think they all did the song justice so many years later. Jeff is an excellent singer and did the song justice, but if you look back to that 1994 performance. Honestly just a different energy and what a warmth to the song in ‘94. It’s on youtube from Springfield, Illinois. Just search ‘Still Remains live’. Probably most like the album. 🙏 RIP Scott and so glad Robert, Dean, Eric and now Jeff are still bringing the music of STP!!
So lucky to see STP back! Been watching some videos of Jeff before STP, I see a great talent that just needed the right vehicle to improve. Their new songs will be amazing! And their old ones, well... they already are! Good luck Jeff. And thank you Scott for all the awesomeness and soul we had the privilege to see, hear and feel.
Scott was is probably my all time favorite singer. To think he could be replaced I would of probably said no but I was wrong he nailed this song and I like everything else I have heard so far Rock On STP and rest in peace Scott Weiland, thanks for the memories.
Great job!! Gutt is the real deal. So awesome to hear these guys back at making new music!! Meadow,Art of Letting Go,Roll Me Under and Thought She'd Be Mine. Awesome.new.tunes. Obviously Gutt does their back catalog MORE than justice. Just great to have them back!!
Um, yeah they have the guy. This come from a 46 year old fan from day one in San Diego. Can’t replace Scott but Jeff Gutt absolutely owns Still Remains. Get it guys!!!
