This beautiful song is a tribute to Maggie Bell’s boyfriend Les Harvey. He died at a show in Swansea Wales in May 1972 when he touched an ungrounded microphone. I’ve seen interviews with Maggie and she described the pain and devastation she and her band members suffered after seeing Les die so unexpectedly. You can see and hear the emotion as she sings this song. Ron Leahy is a wonderful piano-keyboard player, and with Jimmy McCulloch’s guitar solo it gave this song the vision of Maggie’s promise to see Les again someday. Maggie went on to have a successful career but she deserved better recognition and acknowledgment from the music industry. She still performs regularly to this day. Best wishes to you Maggie. Respectfully, David Page.
Such a wonderful tribute to their dear friend. Have loved this song , and other STC music since seeing them by chance, at Wealdstone FC concert, early 70's. 30:04:23
