Nice, but why not record with the actual microphone to demonstrate how badly it records when positioned wrong?

Because it sounds the same either way. I'm not arguing his video, but I have one and see little difference by changing the direction of the mic.

If you aren't hearing a difference then you don't have it in cardioid mode because in cardioid mode there is definitely an off axis coloration if you don't address the proper side. I'm wondering why so many clueless individuals are spending over 100 dollars for a microphone that they have no idea how to even use properly.

I have to strongly disagree as well. I have a blue yeti and I can 100% tell the difference in audio quality between me setting it up right and not. It'll work and sound better than a cheap webcam mic no matter what but there's still a noticeable difference in quality

Nice video, Juan. A question about the headphone jack. Does the headphone pin always wiggle loose on it? Currently, not even able to listen well on the headphones without a crackling disturbance. Thought it was the headphones first but realized it's gravity, always loosening contact of the pin into the headphone jack. Tried with multiple pin connectors and phones. Is there a way to repair the jack? Or a better mic?

Thanks for the informative video. I bought this mic 2 years ago for voice over work, but I'd now like to use it to record a live musical performance in a bar. I'd assume it would be better to use the stereo setting and place the mic closer to the stage to as to cut out the noise. My first option was a Go Pro, as I'd really like to record audio and video, but the audio is terrible. This would be used for a jazz show with guitar, drums, bass, me on vocals and probably 1 or 2 brass instruments at a time. Would this work with the Blue Yeti? Also, do you recommend anything similar to a goPro? The idea is for it to be compact, as I'm not going to be using my Canon HV20 with the tapes much longer. Thank you!

@SomeGadgetGuy
@SomeGadgetGuy 7 лет назад
+Nick Ackerman not really. There are more mic elements in the yeti, but I think they're similar to the single element in the snowball. The yeti brings more versatility, but cardioid to cardioid, the improvements are likely minor.

Nick Ackerman $100 can go a long way towards other recording improvements which will make the snowball perform better in the short term, and will benefit "nicer" mics on the long term.

For about $250 you can buy a Blue Spark microphone and a Scarlett 2i2 audio interface. This would be a MASSIVE improvement over a Blue Snowball. (You would also have to buy a mic stand, pop filter, and XLR cable)

I need help, I use a yeti nano and also run RTX voice for noise cancelling. My audio glitches out randomly when I'm recording games for RU-vid. I've tried disabling RTX voice but it doesn't fix the problem. Moreover, the yeti nano and RTX voice worked perfectly for the first few months that I enabled them. One day it just randomly started doing this. Even tried a different yeti nano and the same issue happens.

na i was always using it like that but btw whats the most annoying pattern for the mic?
@millgiass
@millgiass 7 лет назад
I was taught in college that you shouldn't point your mouth directly at a mic, but instead have your voice be projected OVER the top of it, to reduce wind and hiss from your mouth and keep it from peaking. Which would mean that having it stand up under your chin level would actually be perfectly fine for engaging with the mic, and it's probably why it's height is so specifically designed. As for angling the top of it at your mouth, I can see why people do that, because the stand LETS you. They should have made it so that it locks upright and doesn't allow you to pivot it like that. It's a design thing that kinda messes with people.
@SomeGadgetGuy
@SomeGadgetGuy 7 лет назад
Excellent advice! I also like going "off axis" depending on how the mic is mounted. I usually record with the mic pointed at an angle towards my face, but air will travel away from the mic element. Makes it easier to read copy sometimes.
@JakoMako89
@JakoMako89 7 лет назад
Reason why I put the mic to my chin, vertically, to keep the microphone from moving too far away from my mouth and to produce sound over the top of it.
@JakoMako89

Would you happen to know how to eliminate environmental sounds as well as equalizing? When I equalize it kind brings up the sound I'm trying to eliminate entirely. (You know, the sound of dead air and my computer and such in the background.) Even if I've done a noise reduction already, if I equalize to try and keep my voice at a consistent volume it just ends up bringing that fuzz back. Very annoying and makes my audio sound worse than it should. I've got my Blue Yeti on a mic stand in front of me.
@CarrieArick
@CarrieArick 6 лет назад
millgiass use the spectral view in your audio editor to see where that noise is... for computer fans and steady noise, you'll probably see the pattern easily. Also, EQ BEFORE noise removal (which you should almost always do last). High and low pass filters can also reduce noise.

I'm a new blue yeti owner and I had just one question for this community. Is it okay to leave my microphone plugged in always? Is it a particularly troublesome power draw even when not in use and the PC is powered down? I had some problems during set up, but it seems now I'm recording audio just fine, just wondering if it's common place to leave it plugged in or unplug it when not in use. I'd rather not have to unplug it, as it seems like that was part of the problem when I was initially setting it up. At first it wasn't picking up audio, but it started recording to audition when I unplugged it from the base of the mic and plugged it back in.

what mic are you using ?
@WalterLiddy
@WalterLiddy 5 лет назад
I have all the settings done per instruction, and it's set up right, but: 1) it picks up a lot of background hiss, which I've had to filter out; 2) the recording of my voice is very hollow-sounding, like it's muffled or buried; 3) I don't find that it makes any difference if I do change the settings. SO, clearly something isn't right. Is there something you have to do in setting it up that I may have missed? For example, changing the gain or the pattern doesn't seem to affect the sound AT ALL. Why might that be? And yeah, I'd like to repeat what someone else said about wishing you'd demonstrate using the mic itself, so we can see how it sounds. Kind of pointless to do a video this long that just says "Don't point it at your mouth. Keep it upright."
@WalterLiddy

Some other pricey mics provide the flimsiest, most unstable stands, making them obviously dispensable and disposable, for temporary or emergency use at best. By contrast, the Yeti stand is so solid and heavy it almost seems irresponsible of owners to toss it. Pretty soon they've paid twice the cost of the mic in suspension arms, shock mounts and pop filters (and often find that the arm "droops"). And that's not counting the money "wasted" on the most impressive stand included with a microphone. Besides talking into the top of the mic, anyone who's saving for a college education or to feed their dog, may be committing a budgetary wrong by disposing of the stand (it's 1/4th the value of the Yeti package!)

Hi. I have a problem. My Blue Yeti Pro has been working but sometimes seems to get disconnected, hasn't been much of a problem, I've just unplugged it and plugged it back in. Now all of a sudden it refuses to work as both the mic and the headphones (Steelseries) that I have connected to it. Here's what happened: was going into a game of League of Legends, had a friend on Discord and was recording with OBS Studio. OBS wasn't getting any input from my mic and my friend couldn't hear me. I checked that the default were correctly put to Blue Yeti for both mic and headphones. I unplugged and plugged back in. Then there was no more sound in my headphones. Fucky, right? So then the mic was working but not the headphones. I opened Chrome and tried just watching a RU-vid video and RU-vid actually wouldn't let me watch anything, it just gave me an error message. At this point I was just thinking "poor deaf people, do they have to invest in sound systems to watch RU-vid?" So, my situation is that I can only use the headphones OR the mic, which sucks. If Juan or anyone else has some suggestions, please help! Much appreciated! :)

+BUFFALO DJ DirtySouthPaw contact Blue. Any audio interface will support the yeti once you have the right cable.

What made me initial use the mic correctly was reading the manual but the mic is also an omni mic. So it makes sense

I figured all that on my own, but the video made me laugh. Had to get an adapter to attach the mic to a swing arm. First couple things I recorded with it I was using the box the Yeti came in to lift it up and jammed a pop filter into the box.

I've never had a problem getting quality sound on the Yeti no matter where its pointed.

If you want clearer sound use the other pattern not the circle design one it doesn’t make a difference about the angle

If memory serves, the box specifies to use it vertically and even has a prohibitory symbol over the wrong way. I don't understand where the confusion is.

I blame companies that continue to show it set up wrong. Check out the elgato website as one example.

I have a blue Nessie. That stand forces me to speak straight into it. It sounds good I hope I'm doing it right. I appreciate this video and I am subbed. Yo.
