In this video, I look the downsides of AI being integrated into every aspect of our tech lives. From Google's AI overview giving misleading answers to Microsoft's privacy-invading Recall feature, and companies selling half-baked AI assistants like Rabbit R1, it's clear that not all AI integrations are beneficial.

Big companies forcibly pushing-out half-baked AI features is a good way for them to make people hate and distrust AI.

Well.. now AI is really a loooot more than what people are thinking today.. people finds that AI is largely based on large language models, amazingly complex neural network grids which often are incredibly power hungry methods.. however AI have been around for quite some years now and is actually applicable on very small scales, based on some very simple models that are very different from those aforementioned.. These solutions solves with amazingly simple techniques quite complex optimisation problems and coexists fine with people today - even to the extend that they are so natural that people dont even regard it.. however, you have them in places like lawn movers, cars, traffic infrastructure, fridges, network routers, alarm clocks, hell, even coffee makers have various levels of AI algorithms. If you dig deep enough, you will find various kinds of AI models applied everywhere nowadays - and they work amazingly!

Recall is a nightmare. It might be a little different if Microsoft were trustworthy but we know from history that they are objectively not. But having screenshots of everything I do stored somewhere for hackers to find? Wow. AI is now like Clippy on steroids. I don't want or need a program doing stuff for me without me asking, or butting in every few minutes to ask if it can help with something. Go away and let me do my work -- if I need help, I'll ask for it. And worst of all, all the big software providers are trying to outdo each other as fast as possible to integrate the most AI functionality into their products. It's positively dystopian.

I always try to skip AI-generated replies when I encounter them while browsing the Internet. They are very often useless and long in comparison to answers written by people. When I want to chat with AI, I open Chat GPT and chat with it. When I want information written by people, I use Google and browse the Internet. I hate when I encounter chatbots on customer support. When I contact customer support, I need help with my specific case but a chatbot can only reply to me with some generic information that I can quickly find myself. Next time when I will encounter a useless chatbot in customer support I will leave a bad review for wasting my time. AI can be very helpful in some cases but not for everything. Chat GPT is an incredible tool and now I use it every day. It lets me be more efficient as a developer but it doesn't replace anything except less advanced chatbots. I am also integrating it into my own software but it is not on the main window but only used by some tools which could not work without AI.

Also note that the *vast* majority of "customer support" chatbots are not powered by AI at all. In fact, if you have found one, you were lucky! (or very unfortunate) Most are very, very simple models, at the level of old ELIZA (or worse), which just recognise a handful of keywords and directs humans to some part of their website in order to find a reply. The *best* model I found so far was from the *voice* tech support of a local cable company, which decided that they would replace the old "press one for tech support, press two if you have billing questions" prompting system by an AI-powered voice recognition system. It is terrible at understanding anything at all, *except* one request, which never fails to be perfectly and flawlessly understood: "Get me a human operator!" 🤣 The feeling I've got is that the really "serious" AI-powered systems are so expensive that not even cable companies can afford them, thus going for old-school voice recognition technology from 30+ years ago...

you know what i am really affraid of right now? that i might just turn insane at some point. like not even kidding. my brain cant even take it anymore. this entire ai stuff is so heavily FORCED upon you and so intrusive in your face, that you re not even given a choice. its not like: ''here is some new cool piece of gear, use it if you want to.. or dont..'' no. ai is so freaking powerful, that if you re not forcefully using it, you ll become obsolete so fast. like how are you supposed to compete with other people if they do everything with ai and you dont? but on top, i dont even understand what ai can do, i dont understand how to ask ai something, i dont understand ai prompts because this entire ai tech is so bizarre and you have to think in such weird ways, that i simply cant. i am programmed to interact and talk to normal humans all my life and now i am forced to do something else. and its not a slow and steady process either, giving people time to adapt. this ai stuff is so fast moving, that i cant even keep up anymore. it feels like yesterday, i didnt even know ai exists and today we already have 10 new versions of the ai that can do whatever. how are you supposed to keep track of all this even? my brain is literally melting atm from overflowing. honestly i just want to go back to early 2000s. simple life, come home, ask neighbor if they wanna come over to play some soccer in the garden and thats pretty much it. if trend continues like that, i will probably just sell my computer and my smartphone, get an old nokia 3310 and just say ''fck this world'' honestly. i cant take it anymore

Alas, all generations have dealt with technology advances like that. I remember that, when mobile phones finally became affordable, I *utterly refused* to pick up the phone *all the time*, like everybody was doing back then - and still do today. I mean, for a hundred years, the _option_ to pick up the phone was on the side of the _receiver_, not on the _caller_. Why should I think that it's fundamentally important to listen to a robocall from my insurance company in the middle of my best friend's wedding cerimony? Oh, I know perfectly well that, up to this day, I'm still getting annoyed comments saying "you never pick up your phone!" which is fundamentally true. There are just two or three people that I *do* answer calls - those who know perfectly well that to interrupt me is only possible if it's an **emergency**. And, if it *is* an emergency, I *want* to be able to pick the phone *immediately*. The rest of the time? It's on silence, so that it doesn't bother *me*. And the result? Well, nobody calls me. They send text messages (or emails, or whatever) instead - asynchronous communications that *I* can decide when to answer, if and when I want. Now that was how I coped with this ubiquitously pervasive technology :-) and, to be honest, *I never regretted my option*. AI is, in my opinion, the same. Most of us will cope with it by refusing to "give in" to it. Sure, I can agree that AI is cool at doing some things. ChatGPT is the best Haiku generator I know - and I'm a faithful user of that! It's also reasonably good at condensing my overlong messages (when I'm in the mood). But the rest...? Well. I always loved chatbots, though, and I will concede that nothing beats ChatGPT for that. Even "crippled" as it is today (due to safety reasons), One the other hand, there is still Replika and similar "persona-like" AIs around (based in ChatGPT but with their particular twist on things)...

Exactly. The same as the bullshit about social media, cloud computing, Agile programming, Slack to replace established CRM/ERM systems... and so forth. Investors love all that and some more, and AI is the latest kid on the block!
