I guess I now know why we name hurricanes- for the attendance sheets in Hurricane School, of course. Hazel? Here. Sandy? Here. Katrina? Here. I bet that class really blows.

It doesn't do it for me so much when the entire video builds towards the crescendo of absolving rapists for their actions based upon fallacious arguments. Bummer, tbh.

Caniacforever When did he do that? His whole spiel was about not blaming victims. I honestly don't think it was satire, if that's what you mean.
@Caniacforever
@Caniacforever 10 лет назад
VioletsVoice I personally do feel like it was satirical based upon a previous video that had this same kind of MRA lean to it when he described a video like this as forthcoming. I think the entire idea was to emphasize the fact that "okay, if we can admit the victim had some culpability in THESE cases we can logically make the transference to rape." Otherwise, it would be absurd to suggest that we "educate" hurricanes and wild animals.
@VioletsVoice
@VioletsVoice 10 лет назад
Caniacforever I'll have to check that other video out. I strongly disagree with that argument about rape victims being culpable in any way, and I really appreciate you being so respectful in your explanation. Thank you!

you can tell that the majority of people commenting on this video are American because they aren't understanding the sarcasm and satire in this video! he's saying, for example, a rapist knows it is wrong to rape but that isn't going to stop them from raping so people need to protect themselves the best they can from being raped, it's not victim blaming it's just common sense
@joshkaplinger1382

I don't exactly see how that would make it clear that the people commenting are American. You seem pretty ignorant, and somehow do not realize that the person who made the video is American, too.

I have never heard that Americans do not detect sarcasm, if you believe that then I am positive you are making that assumption off of the people in your area because where I live, In California, sarcasm is used daily by teachers and students alike. It's literally one of the easiest uses of humor so I am 100% certain that almost all Americans understand sarcasm.

Clever satire, I'm surprised that people are confused as to your message. It's quite clear to me that the point you are making is that offering advice to people on how they can minimise their chances of being raped is not 'victim blaming', it's just common sense. The counter argument that we should instead be telling men (assumption that all rapists are men) that rape is bad works on the ludicrous assumption that men don't know that raping is bad. No man rapes somebody because they 'don't know' rape is bad. If somebody is raped (man or woman) then it is obviously not their fault they were raped. However, is there more chance of stopping that rapist if the prospective victim takes action like not taking drugs around strangers or walking alone in dark alleys at night or just pointing out to the rapist that actually 'rape is bad'. Obviously the former.
@TopFloorEricc
@TopFloorEricc 10 лет назад
Haha. Finally someone else gets it. I agree with the point you make to some extent. But how exactly would you inform a woman how to "minimize" her chances of being raped. I loathe those who blame a rape victim, arguing that they were basically "asking for it" but I agree that in many cases, not just rape, it is NOT victim blaming to simply educate people on how to avoid situations that could be potentially dangerous.
@vanessarayfox
@vanessarayfox 9 лет назад
I am someone who was raped. My rapist was friends with my ex-boyfriend and had also dated one of my friends. The night he raped me, I was at home, watching TV. He stopped by to "see how I was doing" since his friend and I had just broke up. I let him in b/c he was someone I'd known for years. I thought he was a nice guy. Even though I had done nothing wrong, after I was raped, it became more about what I didn't do rather than what he *did* do. What was I wearing? Had I been drinking? Did I lead him on? Why would a "nice guy" do something like that. You know why he raped me? B/c he didn't understand that "no means no". He had no concept of consent. Most rapists know their victims. They aren't the evil stranger waiting to attack. Most women who are raped do everything right, and it doesn't matter. Why not look at the root cause of that rather than making the victims shoulder the load. What do you propose we do for situations like what happened to me, since acquaintance rape is the most common type of rape. Why is having a conversation about consent so terrible? Isn't it more offensive to think that being a rapist is just something that is inevitable for some men?

Luke - been following you for about a year. Love your videos. I think one of the best is your 90 minute epic answering all those questions. The audio (as with this one) is top draw due to your mic. The trouble with a lot of ASMR videos is that people just use crappy recording equipment such as phone etc and it gives off a really shitty background noise which just kills it right off the bat. Would you be able put together another question/Answer video in the future and also a more in depth video on your Fragrance collection. Keep doing what your doing Phil
@BlackMaleASMR
@BlackMaleASMR 10 лет назад
You're right, Phil. I think the problem is that a lot of people aren't willing to put in the work that's necessary for the higher quality. It's super easy to record on a phone or laptop and upload, but it requires effort to record the audio separately from the video and perform all of the required editing and rendering. I won't be able to make another Q&A because I think the old one covers just about everything. I might make another fragrance video, but I'm still not sure. Trust me. I have some interesting subjects for future videos. As of now, my upcoming video will just be a POV of me showing some old homework. Thanks for your support, Phil :)

Animals are just as important as human beings. They don't function in society but they function in the ecosystem and they are earthlings just like us. They have just as much purpose. Humans are actually animals, too- just more intelligent. lol I'm telling you off when your trying to make a metaphorical point.
@ChillwithHan
@ChillwithHan 10 лет назад
This is amazing asmr! But my only issue is that all of these scenarios are logically impossible. You cant teach a hurricane anything because it is not living. You cant teach animals to not eat or attack humans because they cannot process language. You cant turn off being drunk or high instantaneously. All of these are simply impossible. I do agree with you that victims are blamed way too often and i love your asmr! I just thought I'd share my thoughts. Hope you have a great night. :)

Hey luke, i LOVE your videos, but how can you think that it is possible to train serval, wild animals in a large are to behave non hostile towards humans? even if it was possible, the cost and scale of the task would be so expensive and monumental, it wouldnt be able to happen. thats why there are warnings, so that people know better than to put themselves into clear and OBVIOUS danger. sometimes the VICTIM IS ALSO THE PERPETRATOR. thanks for making your videos, keep on trucking. Henry
@BlackMaleASMR
@BlackMaleASMR 10 лет назад
For decades, we've been trying teach humans how to use the method of preventative measures, but it's proven to be a failure. People drive while they're drunk, even though it's illegal to do so and people are constantly instructed not to do so. In 1986, James Randi proved to the American public that Peter Popoff is undoubtedly a fraudulent person, but Peter Popoff is currently more successful than he ever was in the 1980s. Since the method of preventative measures doesn't seem to be working, it's time for us to resort to more drastic measures to reduce humans' chance of becoming victims. For example... I'm sure it would be extremely expensive and difficult to train all of the sharks to stop attacking and eating humans, but it would be more beneficial in the long run. There's a chance that the sharks would actually follow their instructions. The humans fail miserably.

A lot of interesting, and logically disconnected, apologies for rape in this video. Throw out the examples of hurricanes and animals, because they're inapplicable. If you need me to further explain, I will, but I won't insult your intelligence by biting on those. What people advocate education for men regarding sexual assault and what constitutes sexual assault, they are trying to protect both women and men alike. While YOU as an individual may know what constitutes rape, there are countless others that are unaware that enthusiastic consent is required to engage anyone in sexual activity. If a person is in an instance where they are otherwise incapacitated and unable to provide consent, there are many people that are not aware that if they use this as an opportunity to have sex that they are breaking the law. What a person at a party may see as an opportunity to have sex may in fact be rape. Their parents may not have educated them to this fact, and in our culture where having as much sex as possible is encouraged among men, friends aren't likely to provide you with this information either. But you know what women are inundated with from birth? To protect yourself from the big bad monsters that are men. They are shamed, blamed, and otherwise made to know of the supposed culpability they would have if they were sexually assaulted. The ironic part of this video is that about 90% of the population takes the backwards view that a woman's clothing, location, level of impairment, social status, employment status, etc. are pertinent to the issue of "was this woman raped or not?", when the reality is that the minutia is irrelevant. The credibility of a woman upon making an allegation of rape is immediately seized upon with arbitrary attacks against her character and life choices that are immaterial to her "deserving" the outcome. Meanwhile, men all over the world at every minute of the day are raping women without the slightest idea that what they are doing is, in fact, raping women. Not every rape is an instance of a stranger hiding in the bushes waiting for a woman in a short dress who appears drunk to walk by so he can seize her. In fact, more than half of rapes are committed by people that know the victim. That is to say, know them enough to trust them that if they are in a vulnerable state that it is unlikely that the perpetrator would use that situation advantageously. The jails are FULL of men who thought they were going to engage a person in consensual sex without realizing that their potential partner was unable to give it or that "no" really meant I do not approve of your advances but I am fearful so I will comply. But hey, what was she wearing right?
@BlackMaleASMR

@Caniacforever
@Caniacforever 10 лет назад
BlackMaleASMR if that's truly the case then my mistake, but it certainly seemed as if this video was designed to allow the viewer to make the logical leap to what we traditionally consider "victim blaming" in rape culture. Otherwise, a lot of the examples are somewhat confusing. But hey, you made it. Who am I to argue what it meant?
@BunnaySango
@BunnaySango 10 лет назад
You wouldn't stand in front of a train, you wouldn't carry obscenely large amounts of money in the ghetto, and you should never put your body's integrity in danger by getting stupid drunk or trusting someone you shouldn't. Im not apologising for rape in any way, but you cant control the actions of others, only your own. Protecting yourself is not rape culture.

What about those who make false accusations? What percentage of rape cases involve false accusations? A very non-trivial number. I dont have the data to hand, but I want to say it is around 30-40%. Right now Dartmouth College is persecuting a young man found not guilty of rape, a case involving a third party who said the sex was consensual, but that the female party felt remorse and decided it was rape later. But Dartmouth is still claiming a "rape" happened and is making the young man's life a living hell. He has been denied all due process on campus, and Dartmouth gas instituted formal policies to deny men due process in such cases in future. They will not even have the right to face their accuser in campus proceedings. This is the kind of environment feminists want to install across the country. And claiming one cannot scrutinize the victim only perpetuates this very alarming trend. Most rape cases are far from cut and dried. Most come down to "he said, she said." Prudence must always be obeyed, we don't to see alleged - ALLEGED - victims unnecessarily traumatized, but we must always keep in mind innocent until proven guilty and the rights of the accused. Chanting a mantra of "don't blame the victim" serves to erode some of the most vitally necessary rights in a free society. It is a short walk from talk of "not blaming the victim" to denial of due process and public trial by virtual lynch mob. The "rape culture" garbage being pushed on college campuses is just feminist agitprop. Meanwhile, these same feminists ignore the sexual slavery and hideous treatment of millions of muslim women. Because "rape culture" isn't about true concern for women, it is about instilling leftism in many young minds.

False accusations make up 2-8% of all reported rapes. Those include women & men who were actually raped but were coerced into retracting their statements. It also includes the parents of underage daughters/sons who reported older boyfriends/girlfriends, as well as the mentally ill who didn't understand what they were doing by filing the false report. The truly malicious false reports are incredibly rare. As someone who's been raped, I can tell you that you'd have to be a sadist to put yourself through the scrutiny of a rape investigation. Though now, I'm glad I reported my rape (I'm one of the few who got justice. It is pretty rare for a rapist to actually be convicted. RAINN says 97 out of every 100 rapes goes unpunished), at the time, because of how horrendously I was treated, I completely regretted reporting it. Oh, and FYI, people inflating the statistics of false reports is an example of rape apology, and it's a part of rape culture.

I honestly you should be MORE concerned about actual rape cases. Yes, false accusations are awful, and ruin lives, but getting raped also does that, and yet you don’t mention it once. In fact, you should be more fearful of getting raped yourself, considering you’re 230 times more likely to get raped (as a man) then get falsely accused.
