Then you're lucky. But generally speaking pet stores don't have great quality. They have variety and avg-good quality for a higher price ofc. Most ppl that shop at PetSmart and Pet Valu (local pet stores where i live) aren't even knowledgeable on anything dog related but the basics. So stores will ship and sell what the customers in the area want.

This recommended collar from Mighty Paw proved to be highly ineffective and dangerous during a walk with my Rottweiler, as it failed to restrain him when approached by two aggressive dogs. The endorsement by the supposed “dog trainer” who obviously is promoting this bogus product for financial gain, raises concerns about his credibility and integrity. It may work for a chihuahua or a small dog but not large dogs that can easily break out of a poorly made cheap product.

Thing is, martingale have another benefit. It doesn't put all the pressure on the trachea and distribution it equally around the entire circumference of the neck. So it's not just about slipping out. It's just better for pressure. Which technically means it's better for smaller dogs than a flat collar, cause they have really weak necks.
@kweenjade01
@kweenjade01 8 месяцев назад
Unless the dog is in danger of slipping their collar then why would you? There'd be no point lol. (Plus a dog that small would feel the weight of a heavy collar a lot more). Also I firmly believe that if your dog is under 50 lbs and that you can't physically control it? Then you should NOT own that dog. Nothing irks me more than watching some obese/super skinny person being pulled and yanked around by a chi or corgi. Like ughhh. Get it together...go lift some weights or smthn 😪🙄😂

@kweenjade01
@kweenjade01 8 месяцев назад
Sooooo... the collar is not going to stop the dog from pulling. It's not a magic wand but a training tool.You need to put the work in.Train your dog through communication and let him know pulling isn't okay. Chances are by this point that you've inadvertently rewarded his pulling. Make sure your dog knows what the word "pulling" is just as your dog should know "yes", "no", "sit", "stay" etc. A nice quiet, low distraction training area is key.Just make sure it's not a new spot that would encourage your dog to explore. Start off walking at a slightly above average speed (most dogs find that humans walk wayyyyy too slow). And anytime you feel pressure (pressure on the leash, not outright pulling. You don't want the pulling to start at all. It's a learned behaviour) you need to stop walking, get his attention, and don't resume until he's calm. Don't stand there forever. Most dogs have short attention spans. You want to reward good behavior as soon as they do it, right away. Walking your dog on a heel (or 4 ft 2 handled leash) will lessen the pulling as well. Just remember that a dog's nose is equivalent to your eyes. Sniff time is just as important as the actual walking movement itself. Anyways keep training sessions short and don't move on from a technique or command until your dog gets it 100%. (I have a strong male husky btw. He started gently pulling at 2months old. I unfortunately didn't get it under control until he was about 6/7 months. A lot of techniques didn't work for me and I found myself basically starting from scratch. All those treats didn't do a thing except teach my dog to always require one for good behaviour. When you really need your dog to obey, are you actually going to have time to dig out a piece of chicken from your pocket? Probably not, nor should you). Best of luck

I still wouldn't trust the plastic buckles unless the dog is fully trained. It is only a matter of the one collar that breaks and you could loose your dog forever. Metal parachute buckles, belt buckle, and seatbelt style dog collars made of metal is much safer and last way longer than anything plastic. You can also get super cute designs or collar information on the metal parachute buckles. You can also get custom fabrics and nylon (easier to care for and stronger than leather in my opinion) and support small businesses instead of possibly unsafe China made products. China doesn't have as good quality control as a small business can have and most likely use lower quality/unsafe plastics. I have seen some collars that have "cancer causing" warnings.

Your tools should ALWAYS fit the recommended size they were made for (Buying too big or too small is simply you setting your dog up for failure. Buy what u need when you need it). At the very least, even if your dog does not heed your cues and commands, even if the worst happens and your dog is off the rails, that prong collar is the last (and potentially the only) asset at your disposal to get your dog back in line. @cat076-jt

Depends on the dog. And by training collar I think you mean Martingale vs Prong. They are both training collars. Different dogs will react differently. A mild dog may do better on Martingale and shut down on a prong whereas, a more driven dog may not respond at all to Martingale but behave perfectly on Prong. @@karoshn usually I use a harness that connects on the front of their chest. Just like a collar quality matters but in general much less likely to fail in the event of pulling compared to most collars. Although pulling is not an issue with my dogs, I’d just rather not put all that stress on their neck. I know it’s usually not a big deal but I’ve known people whose dogs would tug with no regard to their own safety and borderline asphyxiate themself and rupture blood vessels around their eyes from pulling. Obviously it’s a training issue not an equipment issue but it seems more comfortable for the dogs at the end of the day

Martingale collars are used for training and walking. You wouldn’t want to use it to put tags as it shouldn’t be on the dog at all times. You will notice the collar in the video doesn’t have a ring for tags. You should have a flat collar for tags then use another to hook to on walks. That way if the walk collar breaks the dog still has tags on. I also normally hook up to both collar just in case one fails. Had too many collar and harness break on me to fully trust them

‘Harness training’ is garbage. A dog is never fully attentive or receiving clear signals when you’re pulling their whole body. Notice how service dogs don’t actually clip to the harness? Even visually impaired/blind people use a separate guide handle and collar. Because leash training is easier for dogs to understand (and easier to correct). Your dog isn’t going to choke itself out.
