I think people forget that these games are aimed not specifically at us but more at the casual gamers who never had a Wii ,never had a 3DS. Who really liked the super Mario movie, and who might like to play games , with the characters from the movie. I think people tend to forget the biggest chunk of the switch audience is the casual market. I'm pretty sure that Luigi and Donkey Kong will probably sell millions of copies, because of the casual market.
I don't like being on Nintendos side, but your argument is flawed. Just with inflation alone a $40 3DS game is would be around $54 today. Also, just because you played it back then doesn't mean it's now old and worth less. For new players it's a new game and thus worth the price of a new game.
You know the kids in the neighborhood who sell lemonade on the corner? They buy a couple envelopes of Kool-Aid for a dollar and then sell their "lemonade" for $20 a cup. You buy a $20 cup every day on your way home from work, hoping the kids will use all the cash to buy real lemons and make better lemonade. But why would they when people keep buying the Kool-Aid crap for $20 a cup?
8:16 these games are gonna appeal to a new audience and that’s the reason for the pricing New game for a new audience don’t worry about it Nintendo said 70 is case by case not everything will be 70 It’s a hybrid of the Wii and 3ds version
I buy $100 eShop cards at Costco for $90. Then I buy the Nintendo game vouchers which gives you a $10 discount per game. I end up paying $45 for these games.
Games I bought from Nintendo I'm happy with... Breath of the Wild Super Mario 3D World Super Mario Odyssey Link's Awakening Metroid Dread Metroid Prime Remastered Zelda Tears of the kingdom Pikmin 4 Super Mario Wonder Super Mario RPG Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door And I'll probably buy Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Metroid Prime 4 Beyond F Luigis mansion and Donkey Kong lol
Big names are always $60+. Also, if certain games are too expensive I either buy different game that's worth it or wait until a sale with price drop. Lastly, I agree full price for old games is horrible, the price is too high just cut it.
I have bought Luigi's mansion HD and plan on buying Donkey Kong Country Returns HD both with digital vouchers, you really don't lose money doing it like that. Its the individuals choice. In my case I had the 3ds titles for these games but because of disability found playing games on my switch easier plus with Donkey Kong HD you get the additional levels from the 3DS version and you get to play two great games on the big screen and on the small screen when you're on the go, so I see the value in paying a little more. These might be old games but they're good
I agree with you these titles shouldn’t be full price but sadly they can get away with it so...I already have these games on my 3DS so am not really excited for these so will skip.
These are new games for me and even tho I get where yr coming from I'm still picking both up because it's 1st timer novelty to me but thanks for yr thoughts 😊
I might have to buy them Zach, I have nothing to play until Mario Party comes out and I just love DK I can't resist I want to beat it with a controller instead of Wii remote
I’m buying DKCR HD because the price is justified in my eyes. I want to play the game without the gimmicky motion controls of the Wii original with HD visuals, and this game will give me just that. And yeah the 3DS port was $40, but that version was a visual downgrade from the Wii original and was priced accordingly to that. I don’t mind that you personally don’t think it’s worth buying at $60, but it’s also scummy on your part to discourage others from buying it to “stick it to Nintendo”. And since this channel wouldn’t exist without Nintendo and the Switch itself, you’re kinda biting the hand that feeds you with your trash take.
Well I’m buying Donkey Kong Country Returns and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, you may have a problem with Nintendo pricing these games but what choice? When the original games are getting expensive more than the Switch versions. With that said i agree with you on the price on Donkey Kong Country Returns which should be $40.
@@Timlockwood8818 True plus there's zero difference between DKC returns on the switch and the 3DS version and Luigi's Mansion 2 looks like the 3DS version just in HD unlike the last two or 3 remakes or 4 remakes on the switch we've gotten recently adds new stuff to the switch version for Super Mario RPG remake,Mario VS Donkey Kong remake, and Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door remake have new stuff added to the switch version for these 3 remakes on the switch.
Totally agree, the target audience may be the people who haven't played the games but you're absolutely right, they ARE indeed expecting everyone of that 140+ million people with switches to buy those games and it's about time we let them know that it's not going to happen
Nintendo never puts there first party games on sale for a good discount every other game in the world drops in price some people just can’t afford to spend 2k to have a 20 game library is insane im not ok with full price games thats been out for 7-4 years or remakes lower the prices NINTENDO!
Iv only paid full price for like Pokemon.? When it first drops but I usually buy all my games used for 30 bucks or 40 if it’s a recently released but still preown..on OFFER UP.. trust me best tip I can give on here..
Yeah and the thing is I'm only thinking about buying Mario and Luigi unless TPC announced a New Pokémon game for this year if not then it's I'm perfectly OK with just Mario and Luigi
DKCRHD is a deluxe edition essentially it’s adding extra content so it’s worth the value New game for a new audience Every game is different People are being babies
Still the Price shouldn't be 60$ for a remaster when Prime Remastered was 40$. A Remaster shouldn't be 60$ Fans are allowed to be critical here @MadnessArcade7447.
I would save your money for games like Mario & Luigi Brothership, Zelda Echoes of Wisdom and Super Mario Party Jamboree if you are a multiplayer fan, but especially M&L Brothership and Zelda Echoes of Wisdom, those games look amazing
Well just for telling me not to buy any buy these games guess what not only Ill buy these Switch games but Ill get each of Metroid Prime, Donkey Kong Country Returns and Luigi’s Mansion 2 TWICE to give them away. Nuff said!
We don't always see eye-to-eye, Zach, but this time we do. It's definitely over-charging, especially when you consider some ports earlier in the lifecycle like Mario Kart 8 and Mario 3D World that had lots of extra content. I thought Metroid Prime's $40 tag showed us that Nintendo could be fair, but all it showed was that Nintendo under-values Metroid.
I'm getting everything that nintendo releases regardless of the pricw just like I do for Sony and Xbox because in the end they are a business and losing a few won't hurt their bottom line and this is just how businesses run unfortunately. Anyway I love your content my friend
i don't really mind paying 60 dollars for Luigi's mansion 2 hd. I already pre-ordered the game and will get it tomorrow when it comes out. I may get donkey Kong country returns hd sometime but it will be a while till I get any more games. i need to save money for a ticket to mufasa the lion king and I already have Sonic x shadow generations preordered as well. anyways I cant wait to play Luigi's mansion 2 hd.
Your reasoning as to why no one is talking about those games is flawed. They're not talking about it due to these people having already played Luigi's Mansion 2 and Donkey Kong Country Returns and its 3DS port. And since there's nothing new added of course they're skipping it since again it's something they already played so there's no point in buying it when they could boot up their Wii or 3DS to play those games. Essentially what I'm trying to say is that the target audience for Luigi's Mansion 2 HD and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD isn't you. The target audience is people who never played those games. You have to remember that Luigi Mansion 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns as well as the 3DS port of Donkey Kong Country Returns were released almost a decade ago on Consoles that are no longer being supported. With that time there will be a good chunk of people who've never played these games so Nintendo is capitalizing on that fact with these remasters. Would it be nice if they did add new content? Of course but they didn't and that was not a big deal for me since I already played these games so I have no need to buy them again.
Of course but I can’t justify those games being full priced because less work went into them. To me a game built from the ground up has more value then a game that is considered a remaster or slightly makes the visuals better or adds a bit of extra content on top of the base game. To me a game like links awakening is worth more then a game like Metroid prime remastered because links awakening; even though it was a remake, a lot of work went into rebuilding it from the ground up with new assets where as Metroid prime remastered is bassically a remaster with not alot of work going into it since all they are doing is making the visuals better but they arn’t really remaking Metroid prime 1 so it’s not really being made with new assets from the ground up since it is still using the original game as a base. To me links awakening required them to create new assets from the ground up. A remaster only slightly alters the visuals.
@@Merciless_Zero Oh of course I completely understand your point. I'm not trying to say that a game like the Links Awakening remake or the recent Thousand Year Door remake has equal value to the Luigi Mansion 2 port or the Donkey Kong Country Returns port. Because that's what they are to me. Straight ports with updated visuals. I don't even count DK Returns since the new content isn't new it just was on the 3DS port of the game. In my opinion, both old players and potential new players deserve better than what's being given. It's not fair that neither gets a good thing. Old players don't get any new content that warrants the 60-dollar price tag and new players basically get the same game that the old players got when those original games were released just with slight overhalls in graphics. Hopefully, Nintendo doesn't continue with this trend but I wouldn't be surprised if it does. It just would suck for both parties in my opinion.
Very much agree that DK should be cheaper. Honestly, $40 feels like the appropriate price for that type of re-release, especially compared to their lineup this year along with previous well-priced remasters, ports and smaller titles they've done like Metroid Prime Remastered, Pikmin 1+2, or Nintendo World Championship.
I won't be buying these games at those prices. I can wait till they are discounted as I have these games already so don't really need to waste my money. If their $60 US, they'll be over $80 AUS :-(
Be my guest skip it but you can't tell other people what to do with their money. If people are ok with the prices that's fine it's their money to do with. Also I have said before I have never paid full price for a game if you shop around you can always find it for less.
For a port of a port? 60 bucks? No thanks, I will pass. Should’ve been a new game or a DK64 remake. The price the wait till January 2025 would’ve made sense, and been a more adequate way of celebrating 30 years of DK. the way I see it, it’s strange this is the game they want to use to generate hype for the park, you’d figure they’d want to reach the max amount of people as possible, so why put up a deterrent like charging 60 bucks for a port that a good chunk of your fan base has already played. The other way I see it that the labor of making this port happen is not even on Retro, but it’s on Forever Entertainment, and they’re very likely working with the code from the 3DS version. I don’t see how uprezzing the graphics, rebasing the controls, and polishing performance justifies that price or the wait if they are not adding new content. we have been starving for 10 years for something new and exciting for DK. Nintendo I’m sure has their ear to internet discourse and they know we want that for DK as well, but this is how we get repaid for being fans? In my eyes egregious and shameless. No one should be justifying paying 60 bucks when history alone shows it’s been sold for HALF of that cost for the same amount of content. Even if it is a new game for you, why pay 60 when the only thing that’s different between the 3DS version and this is simply uprezzed graphics and polished performance? is it really that worth it? 40 bucks maybe, but double the price? nope, I’ll pass. Give me a better reason to pay that price for DK than this Nintendo.
I'm not sure if you've already played Luigi's Mansion 2 or both versions of Donkey Kong Country Returns but if you have then yeah it makes sense you'll skip it since there is no reason to play it You can go and play them on your Wii or 3DS. But it's still gonna sell since these games are a decade old meaning that there is a group of people who haven't played these games so to those new people these are new games so they're gonna buy them. Honestly I feel like that's Nintendo's strategy going forward with some ports. They'll port games that are old enough that there will be people who've never played those games and then release them at full price with either little new content or none at all. So it completely screws over people who've already played these games but I guess in Nintendo's eyes the old players are not the target demographic for those remakes? I don't know but I'm trying to figure out a logical reason as to why they chose to do this.
@@basilbasil431 sure, it’ll still sell, like anything else there will be someone who’s there to buy it, but what about the rest of the fan base who has played the titles? I just find myself asking why would Nintendo put on the blinders like that and not consider the entirety of their fan base when these ports get made. Why not bring in something new to it that’ll incentivize the maximum amount of people to purchase your game? To justify the 60 dollar price point to everyone, not just those who are basically considering this a new game? I get it’s a numbers game for them and they’ll always maximize profits before all else, but these kinds of moves make an impact on an intangible value, and that’s reputation. A lot of Nintendo’s reputation comes from all the innovations in gaming it has brought and all the IP it has, but a move like this in my eyes is an act of bad faith and reputation tarnishing because it’s clear Nintendo is willing to overlook the fans who did play those games in order to fill its pockets via charging a price only people who’ve never played or owned DKCR games on prior versions could justify.
@@phantasmalwolf2996 Yeah I completely agree with that. It's really stupid that they don't bother to add new content so both old players and new players can be happy. I really hope they don't go down that path that they'll make low-effort ports and use the excuse that there will be people who haven't played those games to justify a full 60 dollars without any new content. People who played these games deserve better and new players deserve to play the game with new content that could make the game even more memorable for them. Like I said I'm hoping they don't go down this route but honestly anything can happen.
Honestly, you should be happy tjey have set tje prices thus. Youve managed to scrape anoyher video out bitxhing about it where otherwise you would have scrambled for something to fill in your daily news show, and lets be real, within the next week you likely have another sponsored video for a shovelware gake coming out which will cover the difference between what you expected to pay and what the real price is
Not upset about the price. Never played the original DKCR, so to me, its a brand new game, and the price thus makes sense. Should I pay less now because of the low effort to port, when I didn't pay back then to compensate the high effort to make the game in the first place? Would be nice though, if Nintendo employed a loyalty program, where if you bought a game and it connects that purchase to your nintendo account, you get a huge discount on re-purchasing future re-releases / remasters of that game on newer systems.
Or maybe add a system for physical games in stores like GameStop where if you prove that you own the original then you’re able to buy the new physical rerelease at a discount.
I have pre-ordered Luigi's Mansion 2 and will also be buying Donkey Kong when it comes out. If you already own these games and can play them on other systems then good for you but for many of us these are new games. I feel like you're basing your opinion like we all have every system and these are old games for everyone.
I can see Donkey Kong Country Returns HD. But some games use bigger carts to store the games. Upscaling DKCR and adding the 3D edition levels and even reprograming any controls from 3DS and Wii. I hate the idea all the games are stuck on Gimmick systems using two screens one a touch screen and motion controls. Plus look at Wolfenstein 2 and the Mega Man Collections would rather pay 60 than have a game that has to download half the game than 40 for half a physical game. I got a PS4 found out physical puts the whole game on the hardrive. Got GTA V it filled almost 500 GB and that was the hardrive I had. I sold my PS4 and am getting a PS4 Pro and an 8tb. I'm sick of cheaper quality for cheaper games. NES World Championship is a bunch of challenge games that are from the NES not the actual games which I'd rather buy a cart with all the full games for 60 than a little bit challenge game for 30 and have to keep an online thing that I renew every year or lose my progress in those games because something comes up I don't have the 20 dollar renew fee because an emergency. I mis the days of Midway Arcade Treasures, Mega Man Anniversary Collection which was all on disc, the Zelda Collectors disc. I'd be more mad at Nintendo Online and Virtual Console. Which you had to pay so much for one game each when you use to buy one disc usually a bulk price of 30 to 40 or even a free preorder bonus and had upwards to 50 or more arcade perfect ports.
Normally I agree with you even on the whacky leaks stuff but with this, you sir are WR0NG. I’m not complaining about the price. I still have 3DS and can play Luigi’s mansion 2 the og way. However, not everyone had 3DS so to them it’s actually a NEW game and now with NEW graphics. Same with Donkey Kong. I never played any of them and think the $60 price point on Switch is fine. Look, the reality of the matter is, the huge bulk of gamers especially Nintendo ppl are like me: we’re casuals. We’re not ppl who buy all the games. We’re going to buy a game or two here and there because we don’t got time to be playing everything and owning everything on every platform in history. $60 once in awhile is totally doable. You need to keep your perspective aligned with reality cuz it’s not check for this situation. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO is stop telling adults how and what to spend their money on. People have the ability to think for themselves and determine what’s worth it for them based on their money management ways. STOP BELITTLING OTHERS.
This is silly. You said it yourself. Nintendo DOES NOT have confidence in Metroid (understandably, as it doesn’t sell as well as it should based on the quality). As such, they made the rare decision to offer Prime at a value price. They don’t like to do that, but they had just watched Dread struggle to sell 3 million units. Other companies, trying to make their money back in the short term, have damaged themselves in the long term, by training their customers to just wait 4-6 months for a sale. Nintendo doesn’t put things on sale because they do poorly. They put them on sale when they meet and exceed expectations. And even then, they are modest 33% off sales, at best. They would rather an individual title fade into obscurity at $59.99 than teach consumers to wait a few months. Everybody praises Nintendo for defying industry norms, and ADDING employees and giving out raises, when everybody else is slashing their workforce, but then they complain about the aggressive defense of their IP that puts them in a position to do those things. The other issue, is people our age look at these and say, hey, that’s an OLD game…what gives? They act like we’re expected to rebuy these games. No, we aren’t. Not everything is about us. Every few years, there’s a whole batch of kids that are old enough to play these games which are NEW to them. It makes sense for Nintendo to devote some time and resources to bringing classic games up to the current platform. Could parents, spend $200 for a used 3DS for their kid? Some of them, sure. But it’s a hell of a lot easier to just have them on Switch. And Nintendo is going to maximize their profits by charging as much as they can get away with charging (see, Tears of the Kingdom). Personally, I was on the fence about this, as I do, in fact, own it on my 3DS. But I pulled the trigger today. Why, I want something fun to play right now, I never finished the game, and frankly, the 3DS has never fit in my hands comfortably. I have a couple XL and an original version, but both models make my hands cramp. I’d rather just have the shiny new version. And that’s apparently worth $60 to me. Whether I’ll feel that way about DK Returns, I don’t know… We’ll cross that barrel of bananas when we come to it. The fact is, it’s about value. I’ve played Metroid Dread for over 300 hours. Which isn’t easier, since the game is only 5 hours long. I’ve got over 300 hours in to Breath of the Wild. Same for Tears. I have over 1300 hours into Animal crossing and recently returned to it. I decided to create a new character and add them to my island. Mostly because I’d run out of storage slots. Prior to that, I’d been logging in once a week or so to do light island maintenance and to remind my villagers I still exist. Anyway, my point is, Nintendo has provided me more entertainment per dollar spent than literally any other company. I suppose Lego and Disney would be 2nd and 3rd, respectively. But it’s not even close. So if Nintendo wants to charge a bit more than I think they should for a game, I’m still comfortable supporting it. If I don’t get hundreds of hours of fun out of this game, they’ll make it up on the next one.
Well for me i think Luigi's Mansion 2 HD should be $40 at least 60 is a bit much I'm just going to wait for a sale to pick up the game same goes for Donkey Kong HD either way I'm looking forward to them I never play any of them it's just not a day one because of the price
3:05 Does no one know how inflation works? US$40 in 2013 is US$54 in today's money. I personally think US$6 is worth the work of A) being able to play it on my TV, and B) The work of doing a really good upscaling.
Yes, we understand inflation, but this is asking full price for something they already made a lot of money on in the first release. Re-releases don't have the same production costs as new games and thus should be offered at a lower price point. It's fair. We already bought it once, they're just double dipping by charging full price. This is more of an upgrade scenario.
The price of everything has gone up. Food, rent, gasoline - why do you think you can buy a product today - at a twenty years old price? 🤔. I don't think you are being realistic. If you wait eventually someone will sell these items at a sale price.
It would bother me if the Switch wasn't the obvious foundation that Nintendo will be building upon moving forward. If they were putting these games at $60 on a platform that was going to be irrelevant in one year's time, that would be cause for outrage. As it stands, any game that gets ported to the Switch is going to be made playable on Nintendo platforms for the foreseeable future, and on a cartridge, no less. That has value that people aren't talking about enough, and while I'd rather pay $40 than $60, depending on the game and how badly I want convenient access to it, $60 is perfectly reasonable. Of course, digital is another matter entirely...
You would be insane for me not to get paper Mario 1000 year door or Luigi’s mansion 2 being the two best games you can finally record in good quality for videos and my favorite Mario and Luigi are coming back amazing Mario party and a new Zelda game Great video, but I love the crazier side of Nintendo with remakes and stuff then the sport games or other stuff we’ve been getting throughout the year of Nintendo switch
I completely agree and this whole video is a truth bomb that Nintendo needs to hear. Vote with your wallet people and skip these games at least until the price drops or there is content added enough to justify the price!
Even if they did add bonus things i don't ont agree with the pricing. To me paying full price for and old already made game just makes no sence. It's not like they have to come up with new game play and a whole new storyline they got the storyline and game play there with slightly beter/updated graphics. It's not even like with links akwakening where they completely redid the art/graphics from the ground up and made it new again most of these HD's are a scam especially when it comes to the switch wich is already underpowered, how much better can they make it. Luigi's mansion 2 is an old game, it does not even look as good as 3, so why do they think it's ok to charge so much. I already put it out my head and decided not purchase it and the same goe with donkey kong. You have to know where to draw the line. I happily bought metroid prime remastered as I thought it was a decent price then on top of that I got it for an even better price on sale.
Is it ironic that the game I was looking forward to playing the most after all these years on the Switch was Metroid Prime.... and it was priced $39.99 and I was overjoyed with it and can care less about anything else. 😂
I know they won't, but I am hoping for pricing to match the development costs for next gen Nin games; mid level games stay $60, the premier games can go to $70 and remasters/smaller games cheaper than that rather than the likely $70 across the board for every Switch 2 game.
That's why we've been seeing the bump to $70 for new games. Nintendo knows how to make money. This is also why they protect old content like a rabid dog.
Honestly, if Nintendo would remake the game, I would pay just as much for a remake of Animal Crossing Population Growing as I've paid for Animal Crossing New Horizons. Nostalgia would really drive me to get that game for switch.
You do realize how inflation works since the Wii right ? $60 in todays dollars is …yea if you look it up you’ll realize Nintendo isn’t even doing anything crazy. They are just getting paid. $60 dollars in 2006 is over $90 in today’s dollars. I love how no RU-vidrs know anything about inflation.
I’m getting Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, mostly because I haven’t played it before and I would like to play it legally. It was Luigi’s Mansion 3 that finally got me to come into the story and now I want to experience the rest. In order to do that, I’d either need to rebuy a 3DS model of some kind or I’d need to get the Switch version. Or I need to hope that Switch 2 and NSO is coming with 3DS and GameCube emulation to experience the first two games legally. The Donkey Kong Country game though. Yeah, if I get it, it’ll be when there’s a sale.
