In this video, Steve shows you the true secret to stop casting, and how it differs greatly from how other instructors will try to fix this issue.
Casting can cause lack of clubhead speed, fat shots, hooks, and overly high iron shots.
Improve your golf swing with the drills and tips in this video!
Maximize your shoulder turn with the POWER COIL PRO! Gain 5-10 mph in 5-10 minutes as part of Steve's 'Magic Drill Sequence':

This video is incredible. I have a golf net and an R10 at home. Video analysis told me that I'm casting the club so naturally I tried to fix it directly with hands and wrist positions. I started almost wearing out my hozel from the shanks. This video opened my eyes in what leading with the body actually feels like and deals with the actual cause of why your mind feels it needs to cast the club to make any contact. If I even just slowly rehearse what you were explaining the hands immediately drop down the body by just trying to maintain the "7". Thank you so much for this

Thank you Steve. I had a stroke back in March. I couldn’t even hit a ball. I tried all sorts of different swings natural golf, stake and tilt. My driving distance was 160 - 170 yards. So when I saw your RU-vid posts I’ve started hitting my 210-230 yards. My irons are straighter and more distance. I got my first set of clubs at the age of 12 55 years ago. Had a decent game. I thought I ‘twas going to quit until I found you. I can personally recommend your instructions to anyone that wants great distance and consistent golf swing.

Thanks Steve. This helps with early extension also. Love watching old footage of Mike hitting driver. His hips are so open at impact. When I started to get this it felt like I was going to hit massive hooks but this is a game of opposites. That’s why people teach the delaying of the hands when actually the opposite is true. Well done, superb video👏👏👏👏👌🏌️‍♂️🏌️‍♂️🏌️‍♂️ hitting balls with the left without using the right arm to pin the left arm then hitting balls with the left using the right to maintain the number 7 was a lightbulb moment for me.😄😄

Fantastic video. Took this concept to the course yesterday and shot my lowest round of the year. Should we use the same concept with the driver where we are trying to hit up on the ball rather than down on the ball as we do with the irons? Is the answer just a matter of ball position? Clearing this up will really help. Thanks so much for all the great videos!

This is a great lesson on the value of hip turn, weight transfer, rotation, etc and how you can get your hands (and handle) in front of the ball even if you cast. The problem for me though is that you are not actually casting in your demonstrations. In your slo-mo swing at around 7:30 in, you have a tremendous amount of lag at last parallel and show no sign whatsoever of dumping the club prior to that. I would like to see all the things you are advocating demonstrated by someone who is also throwing the club (and angles) away right at the start of the downswing. I can do the things you are talking about, but I still throw the club away early and lose speed and have flippy contact. It is like you saying that if you do the things you talk about, that you can't or wont cast anymore. Not sure that is true. If a person is prone to dumping the club at the beginning of the downswing it could be very hard to get out of that just by doing other things correctly.

Love it, good way to show the casting not moving threw to finish, wonderful video! It helped me when I practice getting into the finish position (posing) without a club, to train myself not to stall out at the bottom of the swing, many repetitions of that. the thought of hitting the ball makes you stall rather than like you say moving to the finish! Awesome new tip and can't wait to use this concept. Just think of the number 7 throughout. My question is then is it okay to have your shoulders lined up left of the target line at impact? This maybe your best video yet. Your explanation of getting the left arm in front of the ball was an eye opener. Is it in front for the driver as well? And the pivot itself, I'm finding it has to be done fairly quickly, correct? You alluded to something like this in either a video or newsletter that the pivot must happen fast because in Austin swing there's no time to waste.
@luisjuarez1200

Good question, how far would the butt of the club move on the driver downswing pivot/torso turn before the hands begin the flapping move? At the ball, or how many inches before the ball?
@Inmotion70
@Inmotion70 4 года назад
@@luisjuarez1200 The same move on a driver would not get the handle out in front because of the massively forward ball position! But Kevin, the pivot has to have some speed to get gravity to affect the arms and pull on them...like spinning around with your arms at your sides.

I promise you the 14 people that thumbs down this video blocks their shot to the right or flips and push hooks the ball. You can't cast if you turn, you can not cast faster then you can turn. Remember as long as you turn and use your forearms correct you can't release the club early enough. Once you stop fighting this you will play the best golf and hit it longer easier than you ever had. Stop listening to t.v. announcers and pay attention to people who know what they are talking about. This is a great way to hit the golf ball, it isn't the only way to hit the golf ball but it is a very efficient way to hit the golf ball.

As someone who habitually gets under the plane and stuck this seems like it would lead to open faces and visits to the right OB marker. But I figured out that the answer wasn’t less body rotation, but more of it. If the clubhead path is roughly circular then I need to aim that circular path with the bent spoke (lead arm) that it travels on so that when I cease leading it and transfer all the energy down to the clubhead that the path and head spit out towards my target. This can only be done by more turn and not less. How to get there? I was just lifting my trail heel off the ground and releasing from the top by spinning my Palm about the trail forearm. Not enough. I had to start releasing the trail heel so that it pivoted toward the target line. Voila. Release as hard as you want with a square face. Austin demonstrated that a lot in his skeleton suit with the club looking like it was impossibly far behind. Granted, that wasn’t at speed, but the intent showed in his slow body work. He knew what he was doing.

Can you turn too much? I have been told to start the downswing by dropping my arms before turning. To be fair I think I hit the ball better by doing this. I am a little confused because my swing path can be anything from 4 - 12 deg right ( I am right handed) and tend to push draw (or hook) the ball and often hit it fat. Perversely, when I try and turn earlier, my strike tends to worsen.
@Inmotion70
@Inmotion70 4 года назад
Hi John. While 4 degrees is manageable out to 300 yards or so, 12 is a total disaster for anyone who drives more than 180. Fat shots often start at 8 degrees right, and no divots start at 6 imo. Your drop move before turning will keep you on a plateau forever though. To fix this you would use the 'lift the chair' drill and the shaft/headcover next to your left elbow at address to swing low left. This will straighten out your path nearly immediately. However, changing the face/path ratio will take longer. You would have to flap the hands through while keeping the face skywards longer.

This is the crux of the Austin teaching. This is his story about the mud bank, and burying the club in it without muddying the sleeve. The body is simply positioned to support this action.

Steve Pratt Golf here is another concept that I thought felt like your wrap around the pole drill.

Mainly feels like wrap around the pole because when you push the club head away outward force feels sort of the same.

Steve Pratt Golf the torso turn drill helped out a lot today along with sending out the outward force.

My back then faces the outfield fence or the camera behind me. Now I can really throw that baseball or golf ball around my left lag post.

Did you measure the effect? There is no effect as the swing works like a trebuchet. You can not increase the club. Anyhow for me it does not work. Of course you must release and not hold.

The swing working like a trebuchet is as silly as saying the clubhead moves in a circle. Or drawing a stick figure and saying it's the Mona Lisa. Extremely crude representation.
