I had a student (one of my black students) complain to me about being pulled over by the cops “because it was racist”. I asked him if he and his friends were doing anything wrong. He said yeah they were speeding, and He had a fake drivers license. 🙄🤦‍♀️. The cop did not even arrest him. He just confiscated the license, took the boy home and towed the car. But they were “racist”. He had been taught early that this was the excuse for everything.

@@josephstein3559 Well...Only for the last 10 years or so. Before that people usually waited for evidence. But I blame the media for this because they come out with this information without verifying it and say it like it is fact. Then days or weeks later they may quietly issue a statement that they were wrong. IMO, when "journalists" print information without verifying it and it is later proven they were wrong there should be a monetary punishment that increases with each incident. And when they blatantly do things such as mess with evidence to frame it so that it gives a certain untruthful view they should lose their license. Such as when the news manipulated the Zimmerman tape to make it appear he was told not to do something and did it anyway, when he was never told not to do something.

True story. I’m black, my friend was black. We were in a shop and I’m grabbing something. When we leave the security asks to check my friends pocket. He goes to 100 immediately…kinda like a black female would get tbh. The manager comes over. My friend is saying “this is racist, we have to deal with this stuff everyday etc” the store owner is trying to calm him down and eventually we leave. We walk for a bit and sit down and he’s getting emotional, he actually started to cry. He’s genuinely hurt by it and he proceeds to continue his thoughts about the terrible state of the country where this kind of racial profiling happens. As he’s telling me this, he pulls out a snickers bar from the store that he stole which is tucked in his belt buckle. HE STOLE! He was entirely oblivious to this objective reality…he DID steal. He’s munching on this snickers bar proceeding with this ‘woe is me’ plight. Not only this, later down the line when racism topic comes up….he retells this story to others without including the fact that he did actually steal. So when people say “my truth” on the topic of racism, it can mean this

I am native to Oberlin Ohio. Let me give you guys some context here. I fondly remember Gibsons. It was such a warm and welcoming vibe. I recall no racism. There is a storefront that has housed several businesses, not far from Gibsons (Lorain County natives - y’all remember Yesterdays Ice Cream 😂) and the area itself has changed a lot but Gibsons has remained strong. The area SURROUNDING Oberlin (the town not the college), is very racist. To the point where my mother who is in her early 40s recalls being called the “er” during sports games at rival schools. Oberlin is insulated. We are close-knit community. I have NEVER experienced racism in Oberlin. Wellington? Amherst? Even Elyria and Lorain? Sure. But not Oberlin, the town. In fact, I have felt the most safe as a person of color in my hometown. The college students come in and they have no idea of the community that is standing before them. Always been like that. Outside of the college at its core is a very welcoming and diverse community. A shame this happened to Gibsons and their family - a community staple.

Honestly that just sad, thanks for the added info, hopefully the Gibson’s business will make a full recovery.

The sick freak would apprently take pictures of underage female students and put them in a folder called his "Leisure folder" and police found dirty illegal stuff all over his computer there.. this is after he apprently gave a underage girl a sex toy. I read all about this in my local newspaper. He is now in jail for a long time and the headteacher who knew about it and kept it secret to not harm the schools (at the time) good reputation was fired. And I'm not even mentioning the fact about the bullying that happened. Where a gay male student killed himself via hanging after bullying and the bullies faced no repcussions for their actions, a young girl was rushed to hospital after a group of bullies beat her up and those bullies got nothing but a slap on the wrists and the amount of times the school would suspend and punish the victim instead of the bully when the victim stood up for themselves was too many to count. I've heard parents literally take their kids out of the school and homeschool them or transfer them to another school simply because they got annoyed with how the school would punish their kids for standing up for themselves but not the kids who were constantly tormenting them And apprently now; I've heard kids as young as 13-15 are bringing in drugs into the school My whole school kept this all under wraps for years and years but as soon as that perverted creep geography teacher got arrested and so did the headmaster.... all the problems with that school was showcased and noe it's known as one of the worst and good riddance

A long time ago, probably at least twenty years back, I recall a law professor of mine posing the question to the class: "If the defendant is a black man and the crime in question is drug related, will his lawyers want to select jury members from his immediate locale (Detroit), or from the surrounding suburban areas?" (which were more predominantly white) The majority of the class picked Detroit, a few of us didn't (I will admit I thought it was Detroit, and just picked suburbs on account of it feeling like a trick question.). The obvious thought is that you would want more black people on the jury than you would a lot of potentially racist whites. The reality of the situation, the professor informed us, was that the suburban whites were largely sheltered from crime and violence, and far more likely to believe that the guy was a victim of the system, while the black (and white) locals of Detroit were living with crime on a regular basis, and more inclined towards 'payback' towards the defendant. I don't know that it would be the same today, but it was definitely a moment that reminds me to take other perspectives into account when shaping my own judgements on a situation.

@willchurch8376
@willchurch8376 Год назад
@@sparda9060 Well, this would be a poor example of systemic racism in any case, whether or not you think that doesn't exist, or is the root cause of all suffering in the world. This is actually a case of personal racism and bias, where the ignorant assumption is that white individuals will harbor racist ideals that lean towards conviction, and the reality is that the lived experience of the folks in the hood causes them to be harsher on crime and the lived experience of the folks in the suburbs causes them to think that the guy was a victim of circumstances. Nothing systemic about it. I think people's lived experience is always going to be the strongest influencer of their behavior and attitudes. If you experience a lot of racism and negativity in your life, you are going to have a very different opinion on 'is America racist?' than if you never have had to deal with it or see it happen. That's whether you are black or white or something else. It's why it is enjoyable for me to listen to Aba and Preach. There are some content creators and media personalities that I know, just from a headline about a situation, which way they will be running with it. Not so with A&P. With them, I need to know the facts and particulars of a case before I can guess which side they'll come down on. I believe 'sometimes racism' more than I believe either 'never racism' or 'always racism'.

These false accusations are EXACTLY the reason why a lot of companies tell their staff not to chase people or confront people that they catch stealing. The company 1. Doesn't want to be held liable if you get hurt/killed in a confrontation. They're afraid you'll sue the company when you get hurt or that your family will sue them if you die. 2. They're afraid of these false accusations, therefore, court costs and wasting their time. 3. They have insurance. But here lies the problem that this passivity creates. Allowing theft to happen in your store emboldens theives. You give them an inch, they take a mile. You let them walk out enough times they'll start robbing cashiers at the till. Maybe even management for the money in the safe. They start to get physical and hurt people just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Which is literally what happened 6 days ago to one of our employees. By a thief that had been in before. Who had never assaulted anyone in our building before. Now that he has, I want him dead. Seriously. The girl her assaulted is physically okay. But not mentally. She's traumatized. Today is her last day with us. I read her letter to us on the management team. I'm heartbroken for her. She's a good worker and didn't deserve this. She wanted to come work with me on the night shift so bad. But being assaulted by just walking into work before she could even clock in did it for her. Everyone has always said we should have security guards. Other locations do. Why not ours? I've come to the conclusion that it's because we work in a rich neighborhood. If rich people see security they will know we are not a safe neighborhood like they assume. They will move away and take their money elsewhere. It's a domino effect. This is why I hardcore hate thieves. Bad enough they get away with stealing but they all eventually become violent where they weren't before. Even towards employees who don't confront them.
