can u guys help me . im doing this my hand is winning the race againts my elbow but i felt it more in my bicep than my back its kinda hurt . im using a resistance band btw . all response is highly appreciated .
Last year I had a shoulder injury that severely limited my range of motion in push workouts. I've added facepulls to the end of every workout to strengthen my shoulder muscles and it's really helped. Love your videos Jeff!!
These type of cable machines are the douche-magnet number 1 in my gym already. Most people flip their towels over it while doing something else or checking their phone for ages. On average they occupy this fuckin thing for like 20 minutes...Only 2 pairs of ropes in my gym too. I think I'd piss a lot of people off if I keep them for Jeff-style face pulls lol. Not to mention that one of the ropes will at all times be in use anyway. I should seriously upgrade to a better gym but it's cheap sooo....
Thorasic injury caused muscle imbalances from neck to feet I've been taught so wrong by so many physical therapists. Now thanks to Jeff and these amazingly informative videos I'm making amazing progress thanks Jeff
Guy at the gym: Dude l need to use that rope. Me: No Jeff said use 2 ropes for Face Pulls. (UPDATE): I went from 2 ropes to using now a skipping rope. Always guaranteed because most of the people in my gym hate cardio 😂
brah, my thoughts exactly too. Chuze only got 2 of those, looks like time to get me my own. I got consistent with these face pulls because of Jeff but I didn't think I was doing them wrong, I pulled to my chin while squatting 😑
@@JoeKnott1993 Same. And only 6 benches for pressing that are ALWAYS full. Meanwhile there's like 2 dozen cardio machines that are seldom used. Cardio really is the killer of gains...
Hi Jeff, I'm a female 62 and started working out again 9 months ago and have dropped 48 pounds and gained quite a bit of muscle. I love this face pull! I added it to my work out and felt like hamburger the next day but it upped my weight on my rowing after just 1 time (after I healed lol) and the weight on the face pulls too. It was really what I needed to finish off my shoulders. I really like the latest video on meal amounts of Protein, starchy carbs, and fibrous carbs. It fit right in with what I was doing anyways. Love all your videos, you and Jessie keep it coming plz. I'm feeling stronger and better all the time. Thanks Autumn.
Jeff will make ya strong. I watched his video about effort and explosiveness, I made muscles more sore with less weight after that. Intensity and focus are huge...
@Devon Nelson lol does he really have those fake accounts? It's unbelievable actually that he would need to do that shit after getting millions of subscribers and this genuine content.
I had done a bunch of drywall ceiling work on my house and my shoulders were shot for a year. Face pulls totally fixed the issue. I came back to this video just to say thank you!!!
Jeff, I know you must get countless comments like this, but I still need to tell you that you have essentially saved me. This recommendation has been fixing so many things that had been wrong with me, including a shoulder issue that I have had that physical therapy has attributed to a weak lower back. I've only been incorporating this for two weeks and the results are insane, I feel amazing! I wish I could meet you and shake your hand. You do incredible work and give out priceless information for free, you are a saint of fitness. I intend to invest in some of your products and potentially a program when I have the at home equipment someday to give back to the unbelievable fitness world that you have built. I cannot believe that someone like you exists, giving away for free what many charge for by the session. From the bottom of my heart thank you for what you do, I believe I am one of so many that has been able to benefit from the amazing work that you do.
I could not agree more, i fucking love this guy. His videos should be in every gym class ever! people out there goes to the gym to be healty but end up destrying their bodies. Before only the rly rich people had the oppertunity to hire someone as well educated, but Thanks to jeff everyone can. So blessed to find this RU-vid Chanel and so blessed that jeff do such an incredible Job for everyone to see. You can tell hes a good person and that he rly cares for u to do it right, mad respect❤️
This is seriously not a joke. The first day i knew it was real. 2 weeks and it's a gamechanger. It's like i can feel my spine/shoulder/neck getting into alignment. I ignore all the muscle name gobbledygook but whatever mysterious muscle this exercises was seriously deficient. I now reassess every single exercise and try to do my last two lightweight cooldown sets with external shoulder rotation. I forgive Jeff for all of the extremely personal attacks he makes against me with his shirtlessness.
Jeff, I continue to be impressed! This is the BEST exercise video I've ever seen. Not only that but I can see my posture improving after just a 4 weeks of doing these. THANK YOU for excellent content!
Added these to my workout.. Actually started doin these today for the 1st time. Came here to make sure my form is on point and make my corrections. Learned a shit ton in a few minutes. Will 100% continue these daily as he suggests. I'll try and check back in 30 days with my discovery. Thanks Jeff
Update: Just tried this RIGHT for the first time after seeing this video and what a difference. Thanks to these videos and watching my nutrition closely, I went from 215 lbs. to 175 lbs. with good tone and a soon to be six pack in three months. Thanks for the inspiration Jeff. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for clarifying all this. I was sectioned last month because I was always pulling on my face. Now after some intervention I understand not to take things literally in life and I am ready to get back into society again.
Phone stays in the car when I'm at the gym. That's MY TIME do not disturb unless you're at the gym. Then disturb with caution. LOL We don't know the long term affects of cell/smart phones but it sure makes the public not notice things around them...
This is hands down the best video to explain proper face pull. Its a great exercise for a strong back especially for horizontal pull. Pull ups and horizontal rows and face pulls are absolutely BEASTS for back development
I am a grown-ass woman who likes to work out and your videos CRACK ME UP because I have the sense of humor of a 6th grade boy. And all your followers leave really funny comments too. I get a laugh AND terrific content! Thanks!
Implemented that exercise to my workout for the first time yesterday, not knowing 100% how to do it properly, and then stopped because it didn't feel right (and must have looked stupid too). Today I googled the exercise and found your video. You are the G.O.A.T. Thanks for all the good stuff you are posting.
*Summary:* *Best equipment to use:* When doing face pulls, when you use one rope, it doesnt give enough external rotation. To fix this put on 2 ropes just like at 3:29 *How high should the rope be:* put it high slightly above head, pull from high to low *Stance:* stand square, which is more athletic but you cant overload this stance because you are unbalanced. If you have bad balance, try the position at 5:45 *Grip:* you dont want to use overhand grips because this causes internal rotation of the shoulder. Instead grab it underhand like 6:25 with thumbs backwards. *line of pull:* Pull directly to your nose. Also, the hands must beat the elbow at the end of the motion like at 7:45 so there isn't internal rotation. *If you have trouble getting hands behind elbows:* Do the face pull like at 8:35 *Extra bonus muscle work:* Do face pull but raise arms up like at 9:08. This works the lower traps, to create stability of scapula. *Rep range:* Use enough weight for strength, but not enough to pull u forward *Frequency:* Do a couple sets of face pulls every workout, no matter what body part ur working
I've really got behind the "10 sets of 1" concept with all my lifts and movements. It has been so helpful with developing solid form. I love your videos man. Face pulls!
@@Sean-uy3cu focus on every rep like its a single movement. rather than just going through the motion 10 times for a set boil it down to 1 rep 10 times, rather than 10 reps 1 time
@@Sean-uy3cu "10 sets of 1" means you're pushing yourself to your current limit with every set, as in you can't go heavier without sacrificing your form. Then you do these 10 times. Simply, it's making each rep count as opposed to counting the reps. One mistake many people make is they go easy on the first half of the set then go all out on the last few reps of the set. This is wrong. It should be heavy enough such that every single rep is "earned".
Thank you for your experience, and for your passion to want to share this with me. I'm a beat up 64 year old. Between my chiropractor and primary doctor, I have to stay fit to stay out of pain. Your expertise has helped me to get the best benefit from my daily routines. Again thank you
Hello Jeff I’m turning 60 in 2023 both my Rotator Cuffs killed me until face pulls like the other fellow no more problems good posture albeit they still flare up because of Mother Nature but I refuse to get rid of all of my weight lifting Equipment it’s Dumbell presses and Chains on the Bench Press they don’t aggravate the Rotator Cuffs thanks matey
ever since Jeff showed up in the middle of the night and murdered my first born son, I've been religiously doing and worshipping the face pull. all has been calm since.
You probably aren't haha. Most people, including me, breathe with our chest and our shoulders raise when we inhale. You are supposed to breathe with your diaphragm, so your belly moves instead. Little kids breathe properly, adults usually breathe with the chest. You probably did not want to hear any of this though 😆
These moves are game changer. I have applied them since your first video on this subject. You don’t need heavy weights, keep light and focus on the move, absolutely love it.
Loving this in-depth explanation. I learn new things by watching your videos on a consistent basis and I've been training for 30 years. Adding the press (extension) at the end to the face pull is an excellent addition I never considered before and the idea of 10 sets of 1 is brilliant. Each rep counts! Thanks.
How about a crazy idea where he maybe starts a RU-vid channel, shows us science based techniques and corrects improper exercise form? That'll be next level
Thumbs up and a massive thank you for a genuine and thoroughly detailed explanation on how to do the face pull. I have asked so many on how to get this right, can't wait to try it with my resistance tubes!
6:15 I gripped it the wrong way my wholr life and always felt that this excercise didn't have any purpose except hurting my shoulders. Thanks for showing me the right way to do it!
I just did them the way he said to do it and my upper back is on fire. Activated muscles I didn't know ai had! I had to drop the weight down to like 10 pounds. I love it!
I watched several breakdowns and yours was without a doubt the most specific and reasoned. You and Jeremy are awesomesauce for nerds that want perfect form that isn't bro science. Raised by a PT and athlete my whole life and aced anatomy and physiology one and two in college. It's so refreshing to hear an educated and engaging voice who lays out all out.
This is a great video, especially the part about the hands leading the charge back. I must say this is one of my favorite exercises to do, because afterwards my upper back actually feels good. Gets the blood flowing in there.
In my early years, I had the same injury in the shoulder as Jeff had, and now I fully appreciate why Jeff is paying so much attention to this specific exercise!
For banded face pulls, in order to overcome the strength curve, I've been trying out a "rocking" variation (inspired by the "rocking" tricep exercise Jeff posted). I think it works quite well so long as you're careful not to let your rocking cheat the movement
