agree. if you wonder why your towels don't absorb like they use to, it's probably because of the use of fabric softener. Use white vinegar in the rinse cycle instead.

@@morganfreeman8230 You should put small amount of vinegar in the fabric softener, it automatically releases during the rinse cycle. To ensure you avoid any vinegar smell (although it goes away if sun dried, just to be extra sure) use the rinse+ option during your normal washing cycle. It should be a button if you got an LG washing machine

Fabric softener also makes clothing flammable. It overrides the fire retardant in children’s clothing. Be safe.

Vinegar smell only lingers if you have soap residue. Use less soap, like she said, and/or wash your machine really well to remove built up soap. Pretreat or spot clean tough stains and rinse before doing laundry like normal.

Sounds like soap residue or hard water, Vinegar works for both. Make sure your laundry has room to move about in the washer & isn't packed in too tightly to rinse well.

If your still having this problem... 1st try washing with ONLY vinager... about 1/2 cup as in place of the detergent... ad about 1/4 cup in place of fabric softener... than be sure to use vinager as a softener in tge rinse cycle to keep em soft

I also put a little vinager in the 'detergent' slot AFTER I put the detergent in .. I use a very tiny bit of gain like 2 table spoons ... my clothes feel cleaner feel softer and look better since it started using vinager

What about the laundry packets/pods/tabs? Are they concentrated too? Should we use 1 laundry packet/pods/tabs always or cut them in half?

I use an Ecoegg for washing plus a scoop of washing soda (we have VERY hard water here!) Ecover stain remover if necessary. I soak some things with Oxybleach and may put a scoop in the washer but rarely. Once forgot to put anything in the washer and clothes still came out clean. Never use a dryer.

That's great for a front loader but what about top loaders ? My machine does deep fills and I use a full scoop of powder with large loads. When the water has a slick feeling then I know the water is softened . The key is a good quality detergent and hot washes and an occasional bleach load if you're in North America. Never had a problem with mold or mildew in any washer I've owned.

I always use soap powder but today for the first time ever I used Almat Bio Laundry Liquid which I bought from Aldi but it is not creating any soapy suds / Foam in my washing machine, I put in the recommended dosage, what have I done wrong.

I don`t use much fabric softener either, but the best softeners condition and soften the fibers, fluff them up, prevents wrinkles, static on nylon,.. There is no need to say they are point less, but they come with the problem of build up, one less rinse that take out the soap. The clothes need a hot wash and extra rinses to get it all out once in a while. For the detergent dosage; it is not all that universal as it might seem; go by the instructions on package, up the dose for hard water, less for soft water; more for dirty clothing, a full load needs more, a few garments less. Some of the newer models take up to 12 kg / 26 pounds loads, it might need at least double dosage. Choose a cycle that can handle it, with enough water and rinses.

I loved using white vinegar but then I found out that it is really bad for the internal parts of your washer, since it will wear them down over time. Someone compared it to how vinegar descales a coffee maker--it has that acidic power so it makes sense that it could cause an issue though it might take years

So, what about putting chlorine bleach inside of washers. Shouldn't that pose a problem worse than vinegar? Remember, the amount of water to vinegar ratio is too insubstantial to cause any type of corrosion. Washing machines are designed to work with cleaning chemicals without any ill consequences.

Make sure its distilled white vinegar and only fill up the fabric softener area on the washer i also use an estra rinse.

I would like to stop using fabric softener, but does vinegar cut the foam/suds from detergent on rinse cycle? Please I need to know. My washer is not HE Ps: Does vinegar keep the smell of the detergent? I love the scent of the one I use, it's not overpowering. I wouldn't like to my clothes come out smelling like... nothing. TYIA!

@@FrankGutowski-ls8jt It gets all the soap residue out of the clothes, which is what makes clothes seem stiff. The soap residue will also cause your whites to look gray and dim your colors.

I did, too, till I just bought a new washing machine, and researched how bad fabric softener is for a washing machine. I miss the scent, but I want to make this washer last as long as I can after this last one broke down on me.

I swear by vinager. I have pet rats and cover their shelves with fleece, and it gets the urine smell right out. I don't even use anything besides vinager on the rat laundry. lol don't smell like nothing and took 100% of urine smell out. And rat urine is strong. Plus,rats are sensative to detergents and alot of things that's why I just use vinager, but it works great!

As long as it is diluted before you put it in you won't have any problems but it will eat at certain seals if it's in too high of a concentration

The white vinegar is acidic it will chew up the seals in your machine. Use vinegar now and then not every wash

Hummm. I always use 2 TBS (approx) organic laundry soap, and white vinegar as well as softener (I like the scent). I use bleach instead of vinegar when washing bed pads. Yet, still have musty smell even though I leave door open between washer use. It is a tiny house washer/drier combo

There is no such thing as distilled white vinegar.vit is acetic acid, from a chemical company. It's cheaper.
