Facts: investing in a 401k with an employer match is 100% gains. You cant loss harvest pokemon. You cant lower your taxable income with pokemon you cant open lines of credits like an lma with pokemon cards. You cant gift pokemon cards for tax advantages. You cant create tax advantage health savings accounts and education accounts for your children. You will never build a portfolio of pokemon products that will pay you dividends to live on. One house fire and your entire collection is gone. There is so much more to building wealth then just beating the sp 500 on percentage gains. Its not about how much you make. Its about how much you keep. Have fun with pokemon and if you have the means absolutely buy some boxes as some alternative investments. But if your advisor tells you well you gained 20% this year and doesnt have a portfolio about all around wealth building and tax advantages you need a new financial advisor. Also if your advisor isnt beating the sp or their benchmark index for your situation you should also be looking for a new advisor.

All of those are actually not true though. If you structure things correctly pokemon can absolutely have other advantages in terms of tax strategy and income/investment planning. Im not here to change your mind and I respect your opinion but what pokemon has done the last 10 years exceeds other investments by such a large margin that it still makes more sense for me at least. Everyone's situation is different though. Appreciate the feedback.

My comment was for your viewers that are using this logic to put everything they have into pokemon without having additional information about other avenues. Im willing to bet you dont have every single dollar you have into pokemon and if its just percentage gains that matter why not empty all your other investment accounts and go 100% into pokemon?

@skylerwheeler3974 I currently have about 30%+ of my net worth in Pokemon which is extremely high I think but no not 100%. Also, it just depends how you have things set up business wise and how you pay your taxes which can absolutely give benefits to your claimed income and growing your investment overtime. I don't want to get into the details becuase I am not qualified to speak on taxes and things but you can absolutely see greater benefits than just % gains is all.

I still think the boxes are rising quickly because of all the rip and ships from youtubers, whatnot, and other places, that's eating through a lot of inventory I bet. I honestly have no clue. I still kinda expect all of the sets to get some kinda reprint but you never know. I already have positions in every SV set and feel in the 80s or low 90s if a reprint comes or doesn't it's very hard to get too hurt at those prices

Everything goes up in Pokemon because of the law of supply and demand. Once the supply of Steam Siege sold out the demand goes up because the supply is down and the more time that passes the supply goes lower and demand goes higher. Simple economics

No I haven't becuase I don't pay for insurance and don't know anyone who does that has had a claim and how easy it is to actually get a payout on the coverage. But yes I 100% recommend a waterproof fireproof safe!!

It's all about liquidity man, that's basically THE flaw. While I'm super invested in pokemon and I love it and all that you can't just click to buy or sell 5 figures and forget about any 6 figure transactions. It's good and it's fun and especially for the smaller guy but basically the problem is the lack of liquidity

I think that's why I talk about being selective about what you buy. Booster Boxes remain very liquid. You can throw them at auction and always get 90 to 100% of market price.

it's funny you mention the charizard upc i just picked up 4 for £99.99 (GBP) gonna open 1 and keep 3 sealed i can see them going up by christmas, i'm already up £10.26 and i only bought them wednesday/thursday and as i've mentioned in a previous video comment section i think the 30th anniversary will be a good place to sell so i'm currently looking for things that might do well in that environment. hopefully another logan paul moment 😂😂just kidding

I love it when people give financial advice while treating their time at a rate of 0$/hr. You literally work for free - selling (liquidity takes time), shipping, packing, holding, buying, talking about it via this channel etc. Sure you get some $ from views, but when you're valuing these items at 50% gain or whatever, and your treating your time like you're a slave, then it really is a bad signal tbh. Sure, it's your hobby and you enjoy it, but you're also so deep you can't leave without that time commitment either, whether you enjoy it or not. Comparing that to a stock that you can make instantly liquid? There's something to value, there....

I think you are over exaggerating the work it takes to list an item and let it sell and ship it. But ya it's not as liquid as a stock, I agree! You just have to ask yourself if the higher gains are worth the small amount of listing and shipping it takes to sell. That's all. Real estate is more work and less liquid than a stock too but people invest in that too 🤷‍♂️

As a Pokemon investor, I don't think Pokemon investing is as big a risk as the stock market. My returns in the past year have been higher with sealed Pokemon. However, there is a huge advantage of stocks over Pokemon that people overlook - liquidity. If I wanted to, I could sell $100k worth of stock for market price in minutes or seconds. You can't really do that with Pokemon. You'd likely have to offer a mass discount if you wanted to move volume with Pokemon. Also having to store physical goods is an expense in and of itself vs owning stocks "digitally."

I think it depends on what you have. This is why I don't recommend buying anything and everything. I have moved large quantities of booster boxes very quickly and even when modern boxes are auctioned they go for market or at least 90% of market price which is pretty liquid. But I agree once you start moving into other items or cards it can get harder.

@@NostalgiaNomics Yeah I mean "very quickly" is relative right? If I wanted to unload say 10 cases of Evolving Skies, it could take minutes to hours on a FB Group or days if you bring it to auction. Then of course you'd have to ship it out. I made the mistake of buying ETBs when I started Pokemon investing. And while some still hold significant value, there is a much smaller pool of buyers vs booster boxes. So you're absolutely right that you have be holding the right items and not these weird things like tins, posters sets, etc etc.

Impossible to talk taxes becuase if you structure things correctly you never pay anywhere close to that effective rate. But what about 401k having your money locked up for years and having to pay penalties to withdraw it or having to pay taxes on it when withdrawn if it isn't a Roth. But then those could be lessened by other strategies. It just get too confusing becuase every situation is different. That convo is never ending unfortunately. Also, I am not a tax professional so am not qualified to speak on this.

For the average person like me, taxes from pokemon TCG will be incurred since I don’t have any losses or significant expenses to report. 401k would ideally be withdrawn when I’m retired and therefore would be taxed at a lower rate (although this is not guaranteed bc everyone’s case is different as you pointed out). Just trying to point out that a big chunk of pokemon investors may get blind sighted by taxes upon sale. Love the content and keep up the good work, man!

Alot of vintage singles have been underperforming. If this trend continues it may have an effect on the long term growth of all boxes. So its not like everything is sunshine and rainbows but for modern boxes yeah they have great ROI and low downside risk when buying at or below MSRP

I’ve played stocks, crypto and nfts. And Pokémon is by far the most safest and has made me the most money out of all of them. I have lost $0 in this hobby. But I’ve almost doubled my investment from gains. I’ve gotten it big enough and held long enough that I can use the gains to sell/trade and roll back into my collection. Probably another year or two and I’ll have enough for it to fund itself completely. If you’re using your head and are patient, you won’t loose money. I started collecting right when brilliant stars came out, and it’s the been a great ride

Same argument Warren Buffett uses against gold you hold all the risk and get nothing until you sell stocks give a dividend but if we look back Pokemon and gold were way better investment and you had something in your possession not some financial institution.
