#6kfullframe #cameras #blackmagic is everyone hating on this camera for the wrong reasons? let's dive into the Blackmagic 6K Full Frame cinema camera and decide if it's a flop.. or a future classic.
I have genuinely relaxed on watching camera or gear rundown reviews/specs because it's evident from RU-vidrs like you that it really doesn't matter what you have. No camera can make you talented, talent makes you talented.
@@ThatGuyOverThereWeird yup, smart thinking! - and now im at the point where i don't even buy lights. this whole video was lit with my computer monitor and lamps from ikea
Honestly 6KFF would have been an instant buy for me if it had the built in NDs like the BMPCC6K Pro. I already have stacks of L mount lenses and being able to use them on a Blackmagic would be amazing!
Who would have thought that the BMCC6K reduced $1,500 price tag coming "in a few years" actually came true just more than a month after this video was made, albeit temporary. It's just nutty! I swooped in on this baby. I truly believe this will be a classic. Nice video Patrick !
AMEN BROTHER! How do people hate on this camera. It's the closest image to an Alexa and Film. I had a Color Grade done by a guy from Fotokem and he asked if it was from an Alexa. True story!
I think you're totally right on the Sigma fp being another hidden gem. It's so fun to have these little outliers that do an _average_ number of things _really_ well. These are the same reasons I love to shoot film photography - it's all about the little nuances.
I find the image coming out of this camera so pleasing! As a Lumix shooter as well, this seems like a next step up for a more "cinematic" image. I really like how you described it as a future classic, I think time will prove you right.
It gives me a vibe of 60s , 70s kind of feeling , thanks to its LUTs and also the built-in ND Filters , with such a low price for bang of performance , the only downside was the autofocus for movement , if static won't be an issue at all , but when comes to movement , sometimes either using follow focus, LiDAR , or an independent operator to assist. It is great camera , no doubt
Bought this camera day one and I've been using since. I also bought the 6k pro day one and used for the last 3 years on a ton of commercials I DoP. For me, it's clearly the next chapter of blackmagic, even though they used the same body (which i learned to work around it) It truly is a super awesome camera, image quality coming out of it its super gorgeous, I love it ! Hopefully they use this sensor on different body sizes, like a ursa (but smaller) so i can add another one to my kit. Other than that, this camera is super cool !
I love the out of the camera quality that comes directly out of this camera.....I'm going with an FX30 though just because it's easier to rig out and I literally hate the way the BMPC looks, and the screen doesn't tilt out.
I use the OG BMPCC just now, and this cheeky full frame beast has me tempted to upgrade for a future feature film. It will require a computer upgrade too unfortunately to handle the editing worklflow...
I'm sure it's a great camera, but i don't see myself using it. It seems bulky, and something, that needs expensive accessories, and storge solutions to work as intended. I think Fujis are underrated too. You made me buy an X-S10 with your review, and i love it. Of course it's not cinema grade, but the F-log is enough for me for everything, even a carefull white balance fix, or a pretty hard colorgrade can be done with that, and if you want, you can record 10-bit with an Atomos. And you get the Fuji stuff, with all the benefits, and some of the disadvantages. You can get that in a very good condition under 1000€, and i think that is reasonable, great starting point, and as long as you don't want to record hi-res slo-mo, or above 6000 iso, I think it works for professional usage.
there are only 2 lamps in this shot. that seems low. lol! but seriously, as an OG shooter and a 4k, and a 6k g2 shooter, yeah I think you are spot on correct about this camera. It will be slept on, for a bit, but it will be one we look back on.
Would I like a box shaped camera for ease of rigging? Sure. But, ultimately, I am looking for the right tool in a camera. Having had the BMPCC4K, I fell in love with BRAW. I switched to Sony for the AF. But, if I can find a reason to go back to Blackmagic, I will. But, yea, the price for the BMCC6K is easy to swallow. Especially for that sweet BRAW color science. If you have any more footage from the BMCC6K, I would love to drool while watching it. Thanks.
@@ThatGuyOverThereWeird I bought the 18 and 85 when they had the crazy s5iix sale. Already had the 35 and 50 before I bought the sigma 24-70. I just never got around to the 24 and I can't justify that much money for a lens I kinda already have. Likely going to sell the 35 and 50 as I rarely use them compared to my sigma.
@@BrendonKPadjasek good point but signal zoom not convenient for gimbal vs the primes. How often do you actually use the 18mm and 24mm? im at 35, 50, and 85 and someone is offering to sell me a new 24mm 1.8 for $500
Just to clarify, at 5:12 you mention “screen on the side of it”. At the time you filmed this you meant a flippy screen right? Not what we got with the Pyxis, correct?
I don’t know, because it’s entertaining. I think I saw somebody linked to it on either the Threads or Twitter on one of the conversations so I came here to watch it.
At this point I am mostly curious about a pro version. I'm with you on the fact that they aren't likely to just magically drop a cube camera, but the odd part of this camera to me now is the tradeoffs between 6kPro and the Cinema6k. As a filmmaker in that budget range, you want a little bit of what both cameras offer.
Blackmagic always deliver on image. With the pocket range (and now the cinema camera), you've got two types of people who want to buy them. There are people who want them as a B-cam to their more expensive camera, and people who want them as A-cams at a lower budget level. The A-cam people want a cube they can rig more easily, and the B-cam people LOVE the pocket body precisely because they don't need to rig it for low profile situations where they can't use their A-cam. They can't give the A-cam people what they want without losing the B-cam people. With the gap between the performance of different pricepoints closing fast, and the more expensive 12k ursa not selling well, I think blackmagic would do well to overhaul their ursa line. Design a boxy body with L-mount, put the pocket and c6k internals inside them, and that is just the ursa line now. They only have to continue to design 2-3 sensor platforms because they're shared between the bodies, and both a-cam people and b-cam people can be happy.
I think they will go with another sensor if they do a larger body cinema camera in fullscreen for nothing else than to have higher framerates and maybe higher resolution also. Personally I don't shoot much slowmo so I really enjoy using this camera. I guess you could say it's already my classic camera, lol
man I just want that free copy of resolve studio lol I can't even afford that let alone the camera, but idk why people hated on the 6k much. The body worked on previous pocket cameras and sure maybe a box would've been better but if it gets costs down and it wasn't that much complained on the previous pocket cameras, then I really see no problem.
Fast forward to today, and this camera is selling for $1500+ directly from B&H/Adorama. I've been a Sony shooter for the last 5 years, but this BMD seems like a great way to reignite the creative muscle. Thoughts on this vs the PYXIS?
I have a pyxis video. It’s not for me. This camera is a steal at $1500, I personally won’t be buying one but it’s insanely priced. I’m sticking to my fx30.
well... even with the new box camera, this camera still fits a solid need. The new camera needs a monitor and/or EVF which adds significant cost - so at this price point, this is the only camera of this quality that is good to go out of the box.
It’s weird hearing people complain about low-light. Maybe because I’m always doing set shoots with lighting… but I almost have a hard time REMOVING light from this sensor. Seriously… like one soft box or bounce light at 35% and this thing is fully exposed at 400iso.
Okay, what exactly is wrong with the current BMPCCCCCCCCCC Body? Besides that hilarious name? Genuinely curious. I only ever used a ursa before. Oh, yeah the big one. It was hilarious as well. lol.
So I'm assuming the PYXIS is a skip for you... but my question now is what are you looking for in a camera? Do you even want a box/cube cinema camera or are you waiting for a specific brand to release something with built in ND, sony-level autofocus and good IBIS?
@@sloppysteaks Thanks for the quick response! I'm also very happy with my Sony FX3. Too much obsession with gear these days. I'd like to see more creative content being made with all this new gear rather than endless scrolls of camera reviews and comparisons on YT. Love your content, especially whenever you share some of your short films. Great stuff man!
I think people are pissed it's essentially the same sensor just bigger. I mean I'd be upset too but it's comparatively cheap... Idk Still waiting on the new gen apsc sensor from BMD. 3:2 (or 4:3), faster readout speeds, 15 stops of DR, same great io and screen and a mirrorless mount at the same price. I'd actually be able to justify the purchase.
To me, the fact the camera only does BRAW is an instant turn-off (as on a lot of projects I have to deliver anything but raw [or log for that matter] directly straight out of camera an transcoding this, even with the most powerful of computer, is still time lost for those clients) the same way the fact that Kinefinitys only shoot log is.
@@sloppysteaks UNLESS, they turn out to have the same image quality as the OG pocket. That would be a for sure cop. Thats the only reason i picked up a bmpcc4k, I assumed it would have the same characteristic. I still prefer that image over any other BM cameras (miniG2 is a close second)
It’s crazy how a lot of people dismissed this camera and the hate it got. Every time I shoot with my 6K FF, I’m always amazed by how great it looks and grades compared to other more expensive cameras like Sony for instance. Absolutely unbeatable for what it does at its price point.
i mean objectively it just sucks to use. that's the problem. i personally wouldn't buy one... and it's not hard at all to get the image quality out of pretty much any mirrorless now. BUT if you're a resolve person and like to fix mistakes in post (white balance) it's a great option for the money. i think overall the S5ii is the better L mount full frame camera though.
I guess we both shoot in different styles. I love the fact I don’t need an external monitor, can plug it to the wall without a goofy dummy battery, and I managed to make a really nimble rig with a vmount battery. My last camera was the Sigma FP, so this camera is a dream to work with. I agree that any camera does the job, but each person has its preferences, and mine now is this camera, nothing touches it for my current workflow
@@diogocastrofilm the brief time i had with the camera frustrated me so bad that i actually had to step away from it for about a week before i filmed this video so i didnt just eat it alive hahah and yeah the FP is a freaking nightmare too
@@sloppysteaks I hear you brother! I think that’s why it’s important to understand that not every camera works for everyone, so it might not be ideal for you, but ideal for me. But also every camera is really good like you mentioned. Both things can be true.
4:20. OMG yes. I've been screaming about this for ever in comments. Here's what my comment usually looks like Yes sure you don't like the new camera but please stop acting like BMD can compete with Sony and Canon. They are 2 complete different realms. No BMD can't implement autofocus in their cameras, not without a ton of work and why would they, most of their customers don't even use autofocus (I've literally seen so many BMD cameras in studio like environments. Imo that's the majority of their customer base) It drives me nuts when people assume putting in autofocus in camera is just a little bit of work and BMD is just lazy 😅
@@sloppysteaks Interesting! Going back a few yrs folks complained about the GH5 poor AF & low light performance (me included - hence I finally jumped to full-frame), outside of that I heard pretty much nothing about people hating on cameras. Wonder if anyone will hate on the new Blackmagic PYXIS?
I cried when I couldn’t get the 1000$ off offer on bmcc6kffolpf (just 1500$) in India and now I will have to settle with fujifilm xs20 which is no doubt a good choice but in future I’ll buy ursa12kffolpf or may be ursacine17k65mm.
@@sloppysteaks Yep im fully aware of those listings $950, $1200 and $1250. Sorry but no $500 pocket OG. I check marketplace everyday. Its on my notification.
Full Frame looks shit. Every DP in Hollywood knows that. Arri knows that, panavision knows that... but people think full frame is good. It steals you the look. S35 for ever. Get the 6k pro and be happy
@@sloppysteaks why is Arri Alexa 35 most used camera in Hollywood ? they have unlimited money budget for cameras. But they used s35 sensors. Bro go away from this youtube wannabe dp shit. And know the facts
