I Leave a link or two of slack in the chain between the bottom hook point and top where you zip tie. Easier to break zip tie this way. This is the only anchor system for me. Beats the fluke anchors every time....if you don’t have spot lock.
Do not, I repeat DO NOT, use this method for anchoring overnight in any kind of wind or if your safety is at stake. I did, the tie straps broke, and my sailboat drifted into the shore while I was sleeping overnight on a lake. The conditions were not harsh… just a light steady breeze. But, hey … I guess I did not lose my anchor.
Sounds like you drifted around and pulled against the anchor in the opposite direction. This method has held in heavy Mississippi River current and has never failed me. Not saying it can't, but I've never personally had it happen.
It's already more than enough plastic floating in the ocean. Each time you leave those small zip-tie pieces at the sea, know, that you have just became a worse person.
