I had never heard of the contact to wear at night. I would love to see if my granddaughter is a candidate for those. She keeps breaking/losing her glasses. And I didn't know that looking at things like phones and tablets is so damaging. I watch RU-vid and Prime Video on my phone. I got out my computer last night and used it instead.
This is going to sound really pedantic but I recently interviewed at a biopharma company and one of the drugs in their pipeline involves eye drops at a certain concentration that are given to children to stop myopia. It inhibits the degradation of dopamine levels and will be on the market within next three years if all goes accordingly. This drug is at the third stage undergoing FDA approval. They are currently wrapping up trial testing in Europe which so far, has shown excellent results. I would also like to add that the eye drops is only effective for children. Also this is one of my favorite channels!

@@k-addictt6315 Same I feel your pain. My last prescription a year ago was -7.5. After spending almost a year always at screens for remote class, my vision seem to get worse and my left eye seeing pretty blurry.
@@otiebrown9999 by Long term how much do you mean? I’m 18 and never needed glasses but the past 2-3 months for me were in front of phones. And my eyes feel tired nowadays kinda getting paranoid over getting myopia. Any idea?
I've been wearing glasses since 16yo... 4 years later, 2 years into graphic design school, my doctor told me it was bc of genetics but largely bc of exposure to screen with todays technology 🙃🙃 so reducing screen time not very much an option as a graphic designer 🙃🙃 I just found this channel and I'm loving it ✨
Hi there! Maybe reducing screen time isn't an option. However, you do have an option to stop your vision getting worse. What is it? Wearing weaker glasses for screen use. The problem with wearing full prescription glasses for close-up is that it causes hyperopic defocus. In simple terms - it makes someone more myopic. I used this technique to reverse my myopia from -2.00 to 20/20. I am also helping others do the same at my channel and with my courses.
@@seeclearly please tell me more about it? your personal cycle when you switch glasses. , i have different spherical & cylindrical angle now vs my last glasses, power is just little more now , should i wear the old glasses for closeup work like studying/ looking at screen?.
@@seeclearly could you please help me? 🙂 At the age of 16 i started wearing glasses of -1.0 for both eyes. Then it became -1.5 for both eyes at 17. Now I'm at -3.35 left eye and -3.50 right eye at the age of 20. So, i wanna ask could you please share some techniques to help me reverse or reduce my prescription, if possible. I shall be very thankful to you. Regards, Arslan 🙂
It is nice that you take your time to help us get out of mild myopia. Ie, from 20/50, to 20/20, during the school years. I know of Optometrists that helped their own children achieve that goal.
I am pleased that you Docs, now know the cause of myopia, and can now help kids go from 20/50, to 20/20, in one year. I would be very happy to pay for that professional service. Many other people will support that idea!!
Interesting to run across this. My eyes get worse every 1-2 years and I’ve been worried about the very things you guys are discussing. I can’t remember what my prescription strength is but I’ve got an astigmatism on both eyes and one of them is more so than the other. Thank you for taking the time to talk about this!
Because you didn't know that there is an alternative solution to contacts/glasses/etc Check Active Focus. Myopia is reversible. It takes years to restore your vision but it's possible. Shame on these two doctors, so many advertisements of contacts in their videos.
The standard tool used by optometrists, the minus lens, brings everything closer to the eye and for that reason accelerates myopia Great way of turning a mild issue into a chronic one requiring lifelong "care".
STOP MYOPIA! I work as an inspector so i inspect parts to the .3mm which is very small and i do this for 12 hours a day. I have prescription safety glasses but i noticed that my safeties are never the same as my eyeglasses even though it's the same prescription i can tell a difference. Why is that? Can this affect my eye conditions?
@@7ab3tha has you glasses have any special lenses ? Any MAR/Thinning ? If you have got extras on your glasses (lenses) and you didn't opt for that on your SAFETY glasses then you will sometimes be able to tell the difference
Answer: 1) Long term near always causes nearsightedness. 2) Get rid of all close work, when at 20/40, and you will get out of nearsightedness. 3) That is how you stop myopia - completely. Why is there a problem?
What about depression? I m 22 with -10 prescription, no prospects of relationship.... Being a nerd, i am only interested in jobs that requires close up work, therefore all worry about future is killing me from inside. All my friends are dating, getting married and looking forward to the best of their lives and here i am thinking of k!lling myself. What about that?

Yes, by all means, STOP MYOPIA! Help me go from 20/50, or -1 diopters, to +0.5 diopters, or 20/20. I would gladly pay you to help me accomplish this important scientific goal, in my life!
End Myopia! my vision was a -6.5 for 30 years and suddenly jumped to a -8.5 at age 42, now -9.5 and there is no explanation any opthalmologist can give.
My poor eyesight progressed just as you described - from grade school on. My dad was nearsighted so there is that. The school nurse got a phone call in the middle of my 3rd grade eye exam. When she was done, she dismissed me with no comment on the fact that I could not see the eye chart. Because of the interruption- she forgot all about me and my eye problem. Fast forward 2 years worth of failing grades later - a new eye test and finally glasses (they all found out I WAS really smart, just nearsighted!). I marvelled at the actual individual leaves on the trees, the writing on the blackboard, my teacher's face. My eyes got worse over the years till now I have -5.50/-2.50 in both eyes (not exact rx) and I have astigmatism as well. I am 60 now. Even though I have progressives, I usually look over the top of my glasses to see very close - which is in focus 6 inches from my face. After years of foggy glasses that constantly slip down my tiny nose, I am happy to have contacts again. Eyeglasses have come a long way since the days of my heavy coke bottle tortoise shell specs. The thinner, lighter, almost invisible lens that darkens in sunlight makes wearing glasses bearable, but contacts are the best. Do the corrective hard lenses that are applied at bedtime work for adults? Does the re-shaping effect last throughout the day? Can you still see at night with the lenses in? I wonder if they would help me.
@@devildj6369 at your age, Lasix might be good as long as you mind the Dr's directions to a "t" and remember to NEVER rub your eyes or even touch them unless your hands are clean clean clean (that gies for contacts, too)! Just make sure you don't cut corners keeping them clean and disinfected because an eye infection and/or a cut cornea is just AWFUL! you can avoid a cut cornea by never over-wearing your lenses! I did it and ended up wearing eye patches on BOTH eyes for 48 hours - and the cuts - microscopic almost - hurt like hell). @@k-addictt6315 I am surprised you weren't amazed at all you could see with your new glasses. Sounds like they are far too strong for you. Get your parents to take you to a different doctor - an OPHTHALMOLOGIST. Bring your glasses. The doctor will tell you everything you need to know about getting contacts. Lasix has come a long way, but I do not recommend it. It can have adverse effects later on in life. If you got your glasses from a mall optometrist, definitely get to an ophthalmologist - who can prescribe contacts that are right for you. DONT go back to the place you got your glasses. That whole experience d ou as not sound right to me. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Also, if you get contacts, follow the directions about cleanliness very closely. Take care of your eyes and your contacts the right way!
No doctor has ever mentioned this, I have been -13.50 and -11.00 almost my whole life, I was actually even higher power when I was younger. I was born blind, had glaucoma, surgery at weeks old gave me my sight back, but I have nystagmus, colobomas in each eye and obvious extreeme myopia. I guess it really hasn't progressed, in fact it's regressed a lot, but boy retinal detachment, that is scary as hell, my uncle is nearly blind from having 2 detachments :(
@@DoctorEyeHealth yep, and I have horizontal nystagmus on top of it, almost certainly due to sensory impoverishment in the visual cortices; not having sight during a fairly critical developmental period (age). Docs have said it is "ICE-like" but haven't pinned anything down definitively, thankfully it has been stable since the surgeries. I see 20/40-20/50 on a good day, but functionally I'm 20/70-20/80, as damping the nystagmus is so incredibly difficult when reading.
I am currently working to get new contacts and glasses...took me 8 months last time, hoping it doesn't take another 8 months this time around :( I have a bunch of trial lenses at home and through experimentation today, it appears that my most recent test pair of contacts are over "minus-ing" me by about a diopter in my left eye. If I don't get things just right the nystagmus will never dampen fully (at the null point) and it makes my eye muscles feel so sore...so yeah, what I see and feel at the docs office, through the scope, is never the full story; I could test the best ever and then, at home, my eyes feel they are fighting and the nystagmus becomes uncontrollable :(
I'm a lost cause (only ICL can do the trick, if I happen to be a suitable candidate) but I will definitely use this information on my kids!!! Infinitely thankful docs!!
I didn't know you could stop myopia! I'm so glad I found this. I don't want my eyes to get worse. My prescription went up dramatically after being pregnant twice! 😬 does pregnancy have an affect on eye health?
I'm presently a -7.50 nearsightedness.. I woke up yesterday morning and had so much water gushing out of my right eye, I couldn't see clearly with my right eye clearly at all. What can I do? I'm so scared😭😭😭
I'm one of four kids with myopia of various levels, our parents had good eyesight until their 50's when they needed reading classes. I started wearing RGP (rigid gas permeable) contacts when you still needed to sign a waver that they were experimental ;) I tried the new soft lenses in my 20's but after a few days, I couldn't see distance, so back to RGP. Finally, last year, after tired of blurry middle zone (6 feet) and needing readers much of the time, I gave up and started wearing my progressive glasses all the time. 6 months later at my next eye exam, my right eye had changed enough to need a new prescription. I wonder if wearing RGP all those years (46 years) prevented myopia creep? I'll ask my specialist at my next retinal exam.
Thank you! It was a wonderfully informative video on myopia. However, it would be even better if the doctors could elaborate more on adults with worsening nearsightedness and offer suggestions on that too.
Biggest reasons for myopia: 1. Processed food 2. Stress 3. Inadequate quality sleep 4. Inadequate exercise All of these increase the tension of the muscles that are being used and we all use eyeball muscles. Myopia is not a disease, its a lifestyle health condition.
Great video! Having Myopia is something I always worry about, considerably because I usually have big jumps throughout my prescription changes. 2 and a half years ago I was a -3.25 with no astigmatism or axis, and now I'm a -4.50 with a -0.25 cyl and 90 axis. I went from a -4.25 to a -4.50 in a year, and I'm worried this will be a continuous journey for me throughout, and I'm worried where it will take me. My eyes also get very worn out and almost try to shut where I struggle to keep them open, I have spoken to my optician about this and she said it was related to stress and caffeine. can't blame a girl for worrying!
Same. I'm so worried I'd go blind some day in the future. I've started becoming myopic around the age of 18. In 03 years my vision has decreased to -04. I'm 21 and I'm scared it's only the beginning. I wanna try lenses but I'm scared. This is a nightmare lol :/
My mom did try to get me to go outside in the sunshine. But sat in dim light indoors and did arts crafts and was a shy kid. Got terrible vision. My mom commented and said “you need better light” so I can’t blame her really, but as an older kid and teen I naturally ignored her. My dad was very near sighted, so for me probably also genetic. My sister who was ADHD and never sat still had good vision until she calmed down and started studying, eventually getting a masters degree. Now she wears contacts.
Ortho-K sounds fascinating. Just like I had braces to correct my teeth, it would have been so cool to have contacts to correct my eyes. My rx is in the -7.00 region in each eye and I'm grateful that LASIK exists that I might have some hope for clearer vision. Fingers crossed that I'm a good candidate!
From what my doctor told me, as long as you are older than 26 and don't show any signs of other eye related ailments, LASIK is a good match for you. Basically, if your eyesight gets worse very slowly after 26, then the continued vision loss is from eye strain from glasses/contacts
For the scientific normal eye, long-term close work causes the eye to change its refractive state from +0.25 Diopters, or 20/20, to -0.75 Diopters, or 20/50.
Im an optometry student, people dont really teach you (or either dont know) why myopia progresses. I will not go into details because I cant be bothered writing the same comments in so many videos, but generally, myopia worsens when myopic patients WEAR THEIR GLASSES/CONTACTS WHILE DOING NEAR WORK. The light focuses BEHIND the retina, requiering more accommodation from the lens, in order for the light to fall on the retina. This vicious cycle will proceed (especially in young age), the eyeball to will elongate more, and thus myopia will increase. People who refuse to believe this are either ignorant, or have sale motives.
@@anneravelo8798 No, but not wearing minus lenses for close up will definitely slow myopia progression. Its too long of a topic, I suggest you to take a look at EndMyopia and Todd Becker
Here is my story. Hope it helps and provides hope to many. I had stable -1 myopia for over 23 years. End of Jan 2023 I had an episode of "Primary Iridocyclitis of Right Eye". Used steroids and dilation drops. These did not improve but worsened the condition. After three weeks I stopped medications and went to tropical island. Hiked a lot and did eye exercises along with being in the sun all day. After 6 weeks my right eye still was weak and I saw things about 20% smaller than the left eye with glasses. But surprisingly after 7 weeks my right eye got better than left eye. I think now my right eye is near 20/20 maybe -0.25. I stopped using glasses after 23 years. The left eye still seems to be -1. I'm trying to continue exercises and reduce that as well. After seeing many articles about myopia from professionals who say it cannot be reversed I now feel like it can be reversed with a prolonged change in habits. Good luck everyone. Take care. I saw this channel and answers on quora that stated clearly that myopia cannot be reversed. I think myopia CAN BE REVERSED. It may take long time but it is POSSIBLE.
My eyes are extremely myopic. -15 I was always extremely nearsighted- wore glasses at 12 months old. I have been told I must have been born premature. I was adopted at a few weeks old. I wear RGP multifocal contacts since 2012 and my prescription has not changed for 10 years. I am 57.
Hey Shea. A higher prescription may carry some increased risks but ultimately following up with your eye doctor on a regular basis is the best you can do. Wish you the best. -Joe
So, you can't stop myopia. I got high hopes for a moment there. You should change the title of the video, because although the video in itself is very infomative the title is not factual.
I didn’t get myopia until I was 21 and in one year it went from a -1.00 to a -2.00 as well as my astigmatism going from a 50 to a 75. They checked my eye nerves and pressure and everything looks healthy. No clue what’s going on. The only difference was that school went online .
Hi guys. I'm nearsighted with -6.25 in my left eye and no vision in my right eye (optic disc pit--obviously congenital; 4 retinal reattachment surgeries that never really took). I see my ophthalmologist annually--with anything over -6 being classified as "high myopia", should I be concerned about the future? Love the channel!
When you're at 20/40, the optometrist will give you -2.00 diopter lenses, giving you 20/10 vision. That over-prescription will cause vision to go down drastically. What you should have done instead, when at 20/40, is cut out all your near focusing habits and get more outdoor time. If you're in a situation where that is difficult to do, I suggest wearing a plus lens for all close work. It takes about one year to get back to 20/20. Most of the public do not want to hear this as they want a quick fix. Optometrists will not discuss this in fear of being sued.
I had multiple traumatic stressful events, My life savings was lost in a investment, then 4 family members died, then both of my children moved to other states, then, i messed up and lost my dream career job . My life was devastated.... and my eyesight went blurry with near sightedness. I don't know how to live with all this
My prescriptions of my contacts are -9 and -10. My dad is the only one in his family that needed glasses yet my sisters and I all wear glasses. Sadly I’m the worst of the bunch 😔
It is believed to, yes. However, it is important for kids and people to succeed in school and develop their reading skills. Interestingly enough, there is a study that shows reading outside does not have as large of an effect, so daily is believed to play a role in nearsightedness development yet to be discovered.
STOP MYOPIA don't use your phone 10 hours a day. I only use my phone 2 hours and I'm not nearsighted at all. I used to play on my phone from 9 pm to 7 am for 3 years. I became slightly nearsighted, but I stopped, started looking into the distance, and my eyes healed.
When I wake up in the morning, I have a good vision, but if I read for a prolong period of time, my vision from a far worsen and by the end of the day, it's like I have myopia. When I was younger, this effect would not last for too long, but now, as I age and my job requires me to read almost all day, the myopia don't go away until I sleep. I saw a professionnal who prescribed me glasses to read (even though I have no problem seeing from up close), because she thought that my eyes would need to focus less and that it would help them seeing from a far after my reading sessions. The idea sounded good, but, unfortunately, it doesn't work. Is there something to do with that condition? Thank you for your video by the way. They're very interesting.
@@LotusBornChild Hey can you provide some sources to back those up. I wear my prescription all the time and I think my eyes haven't worsen for a year and half.
Just saw the optometrist today and I was -22 on my left eye and -15.50 on my right eye. No tears or holes but high risk for them since I’m severely myopic.
Thank you for this informative video What do you think about : In normal cases, things closer than 5 meters need eye accomodation to have the image on retina The much we use phones, books and small close things ... muscle's function gonna be adapted to see only close things and we get MYOPIA! Wearing glasses brings us to the beginning point ... we dont wanna get adapted to see close things only again So, why not wearing glasses outside and removing them while reading or using phone?
Why don't you stop with the pretense. In pure science, all normal eyes go down, when you: 1) Place them in a confined environment. 2) When you place a minus lens on them.
In 2015 I got orthok contacts and pretty quickly it corrected my lens astigmatism. I just started going to regular contacts after 4 years and I kind of miss hard contacts. I just don’t think soft contacts will ever be as clear. But even at 18 the orthok contacts did slow down some of my myopia.
Doctor Eye Health there’s only one doctor in the area that fits for them, and I didn’t like the staff. My new eye doctor is licensed to fit ortho-k so she knows about them but doesn’t have the topography machine to actually fit them. Not enough people here want them. I’m 23 now and I started wearing glasses in 2nd grade, but I’m not up to a -3 yet. Part of why it was hard to move away was I’m very light sensitive and my eyes stay more dilated than someone’s pupils should at my age, so ortho-k was nice to just sleep in, but I need to choose soft contacts that go to the sclera so the edge of my vision isn’t blurry. I’m the only myopic one in the family :’)
What, "causes", the fundamental to change its refractive state, from positive, to negative. The scientific answer is, 1) Long term close work, and then, 2) A strong minus lens.
They can help improve muscle control for people with convergence or accommodative issues, but they will not improve your eyesight or reduce the amount of glasses prescription.
All this time I thought my eyes are okay since I can see clearly when it is near, and it is okay when you see far things blurred but 2 days ago I went on a clinic and see that I can really see clearly even if it is far. By the way I'm just -175 and -75 😅
STOP MYOPIA! I am excited to see what new advances come out in eye protection and enhancement. They are going to be highly required for a modern digital society where most of the work is done via computer screens. I am waiting for cyber Predator style vision 😁.
I usually love everything google, but I'm very disappointed because I tried to do all kinds of research, AKA googling, to find out if screens cause vision loss. Every article I found said it only causes eye strain, and then I find you and I trust you, and you guys say that screens do cause vision loss.

Mine is -3😑😑i am so tired of my eyes..my prescribed glasses are also really strong i think😕its my first time wearing glasses but i only wear it when i need it like to read something from far away bcs it is really too much power for me to put on my eyes🥴
Am unable to see writings that are 3meters away ,I really need your help!am also unable to identify people and objects that are of the latter distance.
Nutrition varies so much from person to person (I however, agree), and combine that with absorption issues as well as everything else in hygiene and then there is OVERDOSING (I’m scared of taking supplements on my own or without Rx as I’ve seen them make people mad).
Does the Doctor / Patient problem - have any possibility of "solving ", the issue of a slight negative state, for the eye? Or, must I solve this problem myself? Since you can not do it for me.
You can by focusing on far object for a longer period of time so you have to watch TV for like ten hours or play video games but remember to watch intellectually stimulating things on the TV and for games it has a lot of benefits for the brain so try it out
to stop myopia progression: with low myopia, don't use far away glasses for looking near, as simple as that. that slows myopia progression. (or weaker glasses with higher myopia)
Do not wear contacts. Use plus lense reading glasses to reduce the eye strain. Your eyes are not getting weak. They are getting muscle bound and losing range of motion. Never use minus prescription lenses to read.
Well, using minus lenses to read wont hurt the eyes or eye muscles for most people (after about the ages of 23-25) or at least once the eyes stop growing. Funny enough when the eyes become more nearsighted they are technically not "weak" but instead the optical system is becoming stronger. But Plus lenses do reduce the accommodative demand for reading at near. I will have a whole video series on the science and publications on this in the near future.
I feel if I would have only wore glasses when I needed them my myopia would not have been that bad today. Of course teachers and parents pressured me to wear glasses even when I could clearly see without them. If I got myopia as an adult I definitely would not have worn glasses much if at all.
I've just turned 22 and I've needed glasses since I was 5 my left eye is around a minus 6 and my right eye is a minus 9! I thought my prescription would stop changing in my late teens
@@adon9990 I'm quite worried as my right eye (the weaker eye) has pigmentation around the macular and also my DV is 6/9 even when my vision is corrected
ad 123 does it really stop? Or is that just an assumption since I’m close to reaching that age and I am afraid of my vision getting worse than it already is. Also could you send me to an article to read if this is factual as well, thank you ahead of time 🙏🏽
What causes high myopia? It is prescribing a -2 Diopter lens, to a child who can still read 20/40 on his Home Snellen. Doing this, causes stair-case myopia, in that child.
I'm a thirteen years old who is on multifocal contacts and a 0.025 atrophine drop at night and my vision improved in 6 moths and is less negative! Sorry for any spelling errors I don't know how to spell most of this stuff
Physics question: Why does the fundamental eye, change its refractive state, from +0.25 Diopters to -0.5 Diopters, when you place a -2 Diopter lens on it?
Ortho K lenses and some soft lenses show really good results for myopia control, but there is a new glasses lens from Hoya that is coming out that is showing a lot of promise. I hope to talk about it soon when it comes out.
