Thank you!! We have resisted the pressure to do this all these years, since the performance is evident. Our best campaigns are mixed between Broad and Exact match keywords, and we optimize the keywords for returns (so really mature campaigns spend mostly on Exact match with really low ACOS, because the Broad match terms become less necessary).
This is so true. I've also noticed over the years that broad match is my best campaign and other ones are costing me. Following Steven's advice on keeping broad and auto campaign running has bought good amount of sales. So yes Steven always gives great advice. 👍

People frequently will build an auto campaign and then negate an exact match off the auto and then go make an exact match campaign and that's still bad
Interesting take. However, leaving the kw in auto campaign will only allow you to grow the kw so much as opposed to exact match you can have more control over it and place that kw in a modifier (tos,pp, ros) where you can sell even more then if it was in a auto campaign. So i dont quite agree with you
