We often carry a lot of gear that we don’t use or don’t need on our hikes and we also pack things out of fear to be without...like food! This is one of the biggest fear people have, to go hungry! SO, today we go through three things to ditch and instead of what we want to bring, focus only what we need to bring. For a better hiking experience.

Guys just keep in mind, he’s an UL (Ultralight) advocate. So take this information with a grain of salt. I take a conventional pack through-hiking with me cause not only do I enjoy the conditioning, but I love the luxury on the trail of having the few extra items. Backpackers, don’t feel like this has to be you to be cool on the trail, just do what you want and what makes you feel comfortable. If you’re seeking a challenge of your skills, then maybe UL is for you!

I agree A few things, like a chair for my poor poor back

I 90% of the time being a chair myself… if not a longer trip that is! So comfy… This videos of “what not to bring” is not to tell people what they should bring… but mainly for people to question the gear they normally bring for a better understanding what’s needed or not! This is applicable for all… not only UL hikers and not all have to reach 10p to benefit from leaving some things at home to save a bit of weight.

Unless you hike in the desert, then you'll need way more water capacity than 2 tiny bottles. On one 30 mile dry stretch in hot weather I carried 8 liters of water and drank it all before reaching my next source.

Camp shoes are necessary if you stay in a hut because you cant wear your muddy boots inside but you dont want to go barefoot either

That is absolutely true… discovered that last summer then taking shelter from a storm 🤷🏼‍♂️😄… walked barefoot so not a big deal but a pair of crocs would have been nice.

Yeah it’s a balance 😄 better to bring a bit extra at least and enjoy the extra calories or water than being without for sure.

Last week I was barefoot in wet trailrunners at camp and it was pretty unpleasant. Will be taking some kind of camp sandal next time.

At least you gave it a try! 👍🏻 I find it to be ok, but totally understand those who choose to bring camp shoes.

Who thought camp shoes were necessary? I like to feel the grass with my feet anyway.
