Agreed! Also, two things: most native English speakers only know English, so they're impressed with anyone that works on a second one. And secondly, I don't know anyone who has questioned whether someone is humble because they practice a new language, it is not a concern! Focus on expressing your desire to improve, like Mike said.

I never said “ my English is so poor” in my entire life. Learning any language can be a working progress. I can speak 6 languages, but I was bad at some language’s grammar right now. Learning languages is a never-ending learning process. 😝😝😝😝

When Americans hear "my English is so poor," they will NOT assume you're humble and are just talking down your abilities. They will assume you actually are poor in English and are asking them to forgive any errors you make and to accommodate you in their own speech. Or they might think you lack self-confidence and are fishing for reassurance. There is no culture in the U.S. where people talk down their own abilities to be humble. The golden standard is to own your abilities and even overstate them in certain instances. As long as you're not actively finding any and every way to work how good you are into the conversation, you're considered humble enough.

其实我们说英文不好的时候，潜在的意思就是提醒对方可能我说话会有一些语法错误，或者其他错误，或者尼听不懂的地方，这些都是因为我英文不好，所以希望对方能理解并且别介意。

I am on my way in excelling in English. Do you know that Rome wasn't built in one day? However, although my mother tongue is Chinese, I don't regard my Chinese is excellent too. Normal Chinese conversations are still fine, but if you ask me about sophisticated ancient Chinese text like Oracle in olden days, it is another story.

这集内容充分说明两国文化的巨大差异，被中国人奉为优品的“谦虚”在西方人看来是消极怠惰的。这一点我挺美国文化。

I don't agree with this video. Remember that saying , never say never? If your english is INDEED (so) poor, there's NOTHING wrong owning it and saying it. If it's poor and you "never" say it, you may just end up smiling a lot without knowing what the english native speaker is talking about. Since they assume you should get it, there's no need for them to change their vocab or slow down a bit or do just anything to enjoy a better communication, which is always in its best when it's 2-way. And...If you are worried they might not want to talk to you just because they know "your english is so poor", I don't think you need to waste your time on those people anyway.

啊~原來是這樣😮似乎真的容易句點對方(ˇˍˇ) 不過我滿幸運的，還是有人願意跟我對話一下XD

这不怪学生，这是课本里的表达，除了bad, not good, 初高中阶段学到比这更高级一点的表达就是poor了，然后大学是有更高级的词汇来表达"不好"，但是思维已经固化，学了也不用，别人一问"你的英语怎么样？"，大部分人想装逼又想起来高级的词，只能第一反应" very poor, bad"这些词了😂😂

我觉得这是文化的差异，要互相理解，博主的观念有点狭隘。中国人说自己的英语不好，是在陈述事实啊，我告诉对方我的英语不好，可能是想告诉对方如果我说错了一些话请不要误会，可能是想暗示对方使用基础英语来交流，如果你说一大堆高级词汇我可能听不懂到时候也尴尬，另一方面也是基本的礼貌吧 在中国文化看来，谦虚不谦虚是另一回事了。 中国人听到老外说很蹩脚的中文时大多数也是努力交流的，更别说如果外国人主动表明自己中文不好了，而外国人听到中国人说自己英文不好时往往内心是嫌弃的，更愿意跟可以流畅交流的人交流，我觉得这可以归为一种偏见或者一种深层次的自我主义，往好了说就是文化差异，要互相理解。

Hope u don't mind me saying it, Michael....your English aptitude might not be good enough as a tutor. Since English is your first language, the normal conversation and verbal communication you can handle it easily, but can't see you can go beyond that....🤔
