Hi. If English happens to be your first language, please move on to the next channel. This is not a thesaurus, this is a lesson to help ESL learners to improve their vocabulary and get a higher score in IELTS, CAE, TOEFL and other proficiency exams. Thank you
English is my native language and as an American, I get in a rut with my vocabulary so I appreciate a video like this. It's not that I can't look up synonyms when I write, as I can and do, but being reminded to pay attention to how often I'm using repetitious vocabulary is helpful to me. I paused the video and made my own list of words off the top of my head and then added yours to the list with an 'X' next to them if I hadn't thought of that word. I hadn't thought of most of the words on your list, but you also didn't use the 8 I came up with (well, one's a phrase). I overuse the word 'wonderful' as well, so that didn't make my list. Here were my 8: a feast for the eyes fabulous fantastic gorgeous incredible magnificent stellar sublime
Thank you! Not only the selection of the alternative words, but the usage in the sentences with just the right nuances is so helpful. I was so tired of using beautiful, wonderful, lovely, and amazing all the time. Love your teaching style! 😊
I m so happy to discover your channel. I m French and definitely aware that my vocabulary is definitely deficient. My friends never tell me when I express myself incorrectly because they find my accent so beautiful. So they say “it s all good!” But I have been in NYC for a long time so no more excuses. Thanks to your precious tips I can only get better. Thank you.
My sister has a little pug and it's so adorable I can't stop myself from hugging it. I like august for its glorious weather. I wish you could see my outfit that day! It was absolutely stunning. That performance we saw these weekends at a theatre was majestic! I want to visit some enchanted villages in Germany next year. The view from the summit of Hoverla mountain was wonderful! I bought that book I waited for since last year because there was none Ukrainian translation. - How splendid! What a breathtaking view I saw when rode on a ferris wheel!
I've had a dictionary and thesaurus from my early 20s I was advised to look at a different word every day in my dictionary as it explains the meaning of each word, also then to check that word in the thesaurus which gives many synonyms to the particular word.
I'm glad this showed up as a suggestion. "It pays to improve your vocabulary!" I tend to go along with the idea that the more words you know, the larger is the world you experience.
Recently a friend wished me a lovely evening and I thought oh I like that! A waitress replied ' it was my pleasure' when we thanked her for the service she provided. That to was very nice. Thank you for the lesson! Liked and subbed.
Hiii Harry!I like your way of teaching, you are always teaching with a new sentences and I'am learning more from it,can you please make some more videos on how to sound like a native speakers like connecting words or extra words which native speakers are uses to speak and I would be extremely happy if you mention my name my name is Gracy Gabriel, thank you Harry you are superb😊
Great suggestion! I'll try. I also have a very good pronunciation course in which I explain connected speech, consonant ellision and more. Have a look on my website!
From the 10 "English words" 7 are latin based, so I understand them immediately based on my Italian knowledge. Thank you for your charming lessons! :-)
"I love the way you are teaching us, especially to beginners such as I. Thank you so much." (not 'me am" but "I am" ) ...to beginners such as I am :) If you want to learn English, I can help you. English is/was not my first language. Mi primera lengua era Espanol, hace 60 anos.
As someone who is surrounded by bad grammar and spelling (which I find incredibly irritating) I thoroughly appreciate hearing your excellent and precise delivery of the English language. Thank you!
You’ve helped me in an unexpected way. I’m actually a native speaker and I’m not sure why I clicked on the video, but a guy I really liked once described me as “nice”. To be honest I was a bit disappointed… maybe even offended, lol. However English wasn’t his first language… too bad he hadn’t watched your video! He might have called me enchanting… or breathtaking 🤣🤓
Dear Sir, I am Tracy. (Vietnamese). I am a new viewer. I am so lucky to know your channel. Especially, this lesson is really useful for me to start to use these advance words in my speaking and writing instead of beautiful. Thanks a million for your teaching! Mr.Harry! Your voice is really attractive. It’s clear and strong enough for me to listen and know all what you said. Hope you are in good health.
Hi Tracy. Great to see you here. And thank you for watching my lessons. I have a few videos on vocabulary. Please check them out when you get a moment.
Thank you very much, you make it so easy for us to remember those similar meaning words. The pictures can help so much aspacially someone like me, who is stronger in memorise pictures. And you also make it short and efficient way to know the words whether it is suitable to describe on things/ human/ animals/ views.... wow 👏
I’m American and a writer, fabulous old-time education in our public school system, with an emphasis on writing correctly and creatively. If I hear amazing and iconic one more time, please shoot me! Everything and everyone is iconic, an icon, and amazing. Every American should watch your channel!
I speak English but I wouldn't mind adding to the words that I use now. When I was in elementary school, I remember having three years of speech and my mother never knew. I'm 56 yrs old and one of my favorite characters from My Fair Lady was Henry Higgins. So this will be a delight for me. Thank you for adding to my vocabulary and I did subscribe
I just found your channel. Language can be used like a scalpel or a club, and teaching people to be more nimble with their language is a noble endeavor.
Actually, it depends on the topic. Math for example is precise, but nobody can understand it: A linear equation is an equation in the form of y= MX + B.
I understand the the video. There is nothing wrong in using Beautiful and Nice. In the video, the word Attractive was used.I would use Attractive,as well as using Beautiful and Nice. It is not what you say,it is the way you say it. I have studied four European Languages. Grammar,Context and use of a Language,is very Important. (The Alpha is the Omega).Never forget that.
Thank you so much ! A new window for someone who’s English is not his first language! The most “attractive” picture was the last one ! A “splendid” island from the homeland 😊
I stayed in London for 10 days and have just come back to Tokyo. I could speak lots of English with many local people and the whole my trip was just splendid. Moreover, the weather was glorious beyond my expectations so I enjoyed strolling enchanting green squares, parks and so on. The Richmond Park was the best and the view from the hill was breathtaking❤ I already miss 🇬🇧😂
Thanks dear sister I learn a lot from your video and nowadays I am following you and try to make self motivated and I am truly saying that your video will be beneficial for everyone if they follow you consistently, once again thanks you
"sublime" for landscapes or music is often a spectacular if not breathtaking fit. the salmon was "slammin". the sushi here is "fire". This orchestra is "bangin".
Well done. Instructive more than interactive, but well done. Might I also suggest pulchritudinous as a substitute for beautiful? IE, "She is one of the most pulchritudinous women I've ever seen." Because it has been out of popular circulation for some time, pulchritudinous has, in an unfortunate case, become rather comical in its use, if it ever is used. I, for one, would love to see a revolution in its utility. I just love this word, and I don't know why.
Wonderful video. Sadly in today's time our children are not learning this. I was a teacher and I remember as a child being taught what you are teaching but life seems to change. I think everyone should watch your video.
I found this video to be helpful and informative. Your manner of speaking is a pleasure to listen to. I truly appreciate that you effectively delivered the information without the need to flail your hands helplessly in all directions. Very appealing. Thank you
