Thank you for this. I've been stretching alot but the relief is very short lived. I've noticed a common thread in your advice, be gentle and very controlled, sadly this is not what I've been doing.
No body is gentle or noticed they should after watching someone who “knows” what they’re talking about after demonstrates it. You’d think the person who is showing tells you to be gentle before doing the stretch.
HI , I have Dizziness and Imbalance problem since 1 year. Problem is when I walk I feel imbalance also some dizziness. I am frustrated regarding this .Lot of test like head MRI/Ear Test/Balance Test/Sugar/pressure/Lipid Profile test did. But still doctor not able to identify real cause. I live in Stockholm Sweden, Please please help me to solve my problem
wow, maybe you just helped me. A neurosurgeon told me to put a towel behind my head to correct my curve I started doing that almost all the time while sitting and shortly started getting headaches. I can't help but wonder did me laying against a rolled towel and constantly keeping my chin up start these headaches. Now I will fix it, pray for my healing, it is very rough
I could never tolerate the rolled towel because the occiput (base of the skull) is so super sensitive, which is what causes the headaches. So putting something there only triggers the headaches
I've had a weak neck for 3 years I have dizziness visual problems and balance issues and headaches it all happend after months of panic attacks I woke up one morning and I couldn't move neck and I was swaying all over the place I was bed bound for months and now even today it affects my life I've had MRI scans and everything normal but the muscles don't move right I think it's structure of the muscles and I've lost proper function in the neck 😢
Thanks for watching our newest video. We are going to try to post a new video every Saturday morning. If you have ever suffered cervicogenic headaches or dizziness drop me a comment as I would love to hear your story. Best of luck to everyone!
As a back sleeper, am I curious if you have done a video about the best head/neck position while sleeping? I am aware of neck stability while I'm awake, but occasionally wake in the night with an achy neck.
I have occipital neuralgia, I to have been doing stretching excercise. I suffer from dizziness and pain at the base of my skull when I apply any pressure on the back of my head. Very hard to sleep. Will try your excercise’s, hopefully give me relief.
I have been dealing with a balance issues for over a year an was told I have vestibular neuritis but I also have lumbar stenosis and cervical degeneration which the neurologist said could also be causing my balance and vertigo issues. It's not that things are spinning, it's I get a sensation of movement when I move my head or upper body forward or side to side. Hopefully these help because I don't want surgery.
Would this potentially help with eye strain, light sensitivity, blurriness in addition to headaches? All these symptoms seem to be coming from my neck, but unsure why (when I move my head to the right the left side of my neck cracks and sometimes will relieve the headache and eye blurriness - but temporarily)
@@majidahmad4783 Not really - but i do feel like a lot of these issues at least for me are due to really tight & weak neck/shoulder muscles. Since i find my symptoms are a bit better when my posture is not forward head/hunched over. I also saw a TMJ specialist who also specializes in upper cervical and he did a comprehensive overview with pictures of my posture and pressing on certain neck/face muscles - he thinks i have an atlas misalignment in my neck but need to get further xrays to confirm.
Mi problem is that i cant look down, like the second exercise, and i got vertigo because of that, how can i fix this? My c3 and c 4 are degenerated and my c5c6 have mild stenosis and 1 and 2 mm bulging and a osteophyte
Is feeling VERY tired also part of Cervicogenic Dizziness? Also i have a very bad recovery, even after a light session at the gym (soreness ,fatigue etc...) All this started after 6 months of a bad posture in front of the computer 10 hours a day while being SUPER stressed (during this period i always had my neck bent backwards and I was very tense in front of the computer almost every day). All this also create anxiety and panic attack during the pic of my cervicogenic Dizziness .Thanks in advance for any help!
I've had headaches that fit the description of cervicogenic headaches for over a decade and have been having dizzy spells lately that get me really worried. It has all been interfering with my work and life for over a year now. Your explanation of things in this and other videos has made a lot of sense to me. I'm going to try these exercises morning and night for a while and report back 👍 Thank you for the video.
Hey I’m with you on this. I’ve seen so many drs. I had surgery on my cervical spine and all symptoms are the same. It’s devastating. I feel like I’ll never get the right help. It’s been 2 years of suffering.
@@lexiiibelle Hey there, I am with you guys all, I am suffering with this cervical vertigo from last two months.. It's affecting my work and life in general..I m seeing chiropractor.. I am just exhausted at this point. I went to ER to get the MRI of my head .. It came back normal.. But My dizziness does not stop.. It scares me away.. I am thinking to see neurologist now..
@@lexiiibelle I feel you! I have neck stiffness over 10years and cervical vertigo over two years and it went worst from last two months... Same multiple hospital visits, MRI, physio for BPPV , virtual care.. NO help..
Immediate relief. Even my neuron sinuses were activated. Thank you. The tension went from the rear bottom skull toward the front upper area of my head as a sign of relief.
Question: if someone has "Instability" say of Alar, Facet, Nuchal... Wouldn't this be the reason the muscles are already overworked? Thus more exercise would just continue the muscle degradation? Some with Posterior Atlantooccipital Membrane tears can't even look up without symptoms. OR - we have a misunderstanding of the real pathology going on. Can I interview you for my CCI Group?
3 subsystems for cervical joint stability. The ligaments, the bones, and the muscles. We can usually overcome some instability by restoring the stabilizing muscles around the injured joints (they will often be atrophied). Strong research for a stability approach vs stretching. Thanks for watching!
Great video, good explanation and very good exercises! Thank you very much. Just want to add that the tightness of the muscles in the neck are not only a symptom. The autonomous nerve system is actually just doing its job as it tries to stabilize the instability of the cervical spine by making the muscles tight. I developed cervical issues two years ago and stretching always felt wrong and uncomfortably, despite there are so many videos out there telling you to stretch....
@@royalhumbler2767 Tinnitus (ringing / noise in the ears), cracking sounds in the cervical spine and the tmj and sometimes headaches. Symptoms can be almost away one day and return on the next morning.
Thank you so much for giving us your expertise freely. Wish I lived nearby so I could go for treatment from you. I now have more knowledge and practical help to get better. I’m stopping the vestibular shaking and nodding head exercises and doing the stretching exercises taught here. My neck feels better. Many thanks Dr. Marrow!
I am helping people to make this understand all my carreer. Sorrily we work against all this mainstream thinking about. Why are we not smart enough to see how structural integrity is what the foundation problem is?! Also people with pain find somebody who is doing 'skeleton/periosteum fibrotic release'. I call it Cranio-Sacral fibrotic release. All my clients with lots of pain are all getting much better. There we find lots of draped fibrotic tissues squeezing many little nerves and hold back Blood circulation. All this release = better circulation less headaches and pain.
I have severe cervical spondylosis and dreadful headaches. 25 8 24 I started Acupuncture and today the 26.8 I have lost the headaches and pain. Moxibustion also helped. I tried stretching with the towel and spent hours trying different videos on YT. BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY TRY ACUPUNCTURE
I don’t have any neck pain but I do have somatic tinnitus and some TMD. Would these exercises still be appropriate for tinnitus relief that isn’t due to hearing loss?
@@physiotipswithmarrow5836 if you visit the Philippines someday, i hope to see you..there are lots of Filipino Foods you will also like the way you like lumpia 🙂
3rd exercise makes impact... does it makes the difference how we pull the arm back? Btw from my experience it's important to shift your centre of gravity back - that will relieve your neck from tension
Iron neck (in my opinion) would be more appropriate for an athlete or someone that does not suffer from chronic neck pain or instability. Chiropractic care is research proven to give short term relief but not long term relief. Some say "short term relief, long term dependency". Thanks for watching!
I know we are all different, but as a last resort I went to both nucca and chiropractic care and paid the price for both ! I wouldn’t recommend it at all !!
Yes! I was told to stretch and it just makes the symptoms worse. My physio acknowledges this. It doesn’t really have an alternative. I’m so glad to see someone finally addressing this. Thank you! Will this exercise build up strength to help prevent symptoms in future?
Thank you SO much for this video! I’ve only been doing the first 2 exercises as I can’t lay on my side. But wow, the difference I feel in my neck with just those two is AMAZING. I have been getting searing neck pain and ocular migraines for quite awhile. Today is day 3 of not walking around feeling dizzy, nauseous, and wearing an ice cap on my head.
Thank you for the exercise suggestions. I really like how you demonstrate what to do and what not to do in order to do the movement correctly. I was also wondering if you could please do a video on Cervical Kyphosis and how to restore the curve. I suppose I have very week deep cervical muscles as well as exterior muscles. Also, I'm sure this is all linked together but the neck muscles that wrap in font and behind the ear are causing me "TMJ" discomfort. I can eat and talk etc. without pain but rather I feel a constant dull ache and uncomfortable pulling sensation. My mouth does not track symmetrically. It swings from the side that is in discomfort towards the side that feels normal when my mouth is open wide. Perhaps that is a separate video suggestion. I'm falling apart Dr. Burnette. Look forward to hearing from you. Take Care, Kate
How would my muscles get weak ? I’ve work hard jobs lifting a lot of moving. Like any muscle my neck got plenty of exercise. So with your idea of weak muscles doesn’t really make sense in my case. I know some friends who had sedentary life and job and they don’t have neck problems. I do like your exercises and will do them just the same
Neck pain can inhibit the nerve's ability to stimulate the muscles and cause rapid atrophy. Low weightbearing like sitting for long periods of time will also weaken the deep muscle of the neck over time. Hope that helps.
Nice video. But the problem, like every other similar videos. Is that it is aimed at people with severe problems. I have neck issues, but i dont feel a thing when i do this. I have also a light tenonditis on my right shoulder from boxing 15years and having done 3massages in my life. And when i do the exercises in the video, i dont feel anything. We need a little harder exercises to PREVENT needing to go to a doctor or destroying ourselves. Anyhow, its free advice so the only thing i CAN say, is thank you.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will try to put a video together with more advanced exercises. When I treat patients that do MMA, police officers, wrestlers, etc., I always take it up a notch for their specific needs.
Hi doc, will this be good for me? I am diagnosed to have cervicogenic dizziness, I have an existing neck pain especially when tilting my head down. They gave me exercise, chin tucks, upper fibers trapezius stretch, snow angel on the wall and mid back mobility -Y-I using a foam roller. But I noticed I am having pain doing chin tucks and and using a foam roller, it seems my neck pain is getting worse.. I feel so down, I feel my head is heavy and feel unsteady..thank you for reading my comment in advance doc..
Great question. The towel procedure is an osteopathic technique to manipulate the C1/2 facet jt. It is not a stretch for the muscles and does not require the neck to move laterally. Hope that helped and thanks for watching!
@@physiotipswithmarrow5836 Thank you for your answer! I am suprised to learn that, beacuse it always seemed to me that it was very similar to the pushing-your-chin-to-the-side stretch.
It works better instead of stretching. After I stretch my neck muscle the symptoms getting worse. Try to stabilize your neck is a better way to get rid of neck pain
I think I have CCI and been having neck pain, anxiety, vision problem and the pressure you mention behind the eyes. Do you think it’s possible to recover from it without prolotherpy injections by just doing strengthening exercises?
2 f**** years . I can't lift or turn to the right unless I make a huge effort Walking is hard. Looking down...impossible . MRI clear. Could it be c.d?. I don't know. Maybe. 2 years and very little improvement. Nightmare.
Thank you for this video. I had a couple of head injuries that led to cervical instability many years ago. Got it treated and well in hand but it has resurged recently. Had a bad episode of dizziness, jaw tightness, tingling, headache, all of it this weekend and again a bit today. Doesn't help that I'm big and strong and have an 18-in neck. When those muscles clench down, it's severe. Anyway, this is helping a lot
@@physiotipswithmarrow5836 done the exercises everyday since Saturday. Three increasingly brief and less severe episodes, seem to be returning back to homeostasis. I'll keep an eye out for that new video
Tricky, but the towel procedure is a version of an osteopathic manipulation completely unrelated to stretching soft tissue. Great observation and thanks for watching.
@@physiotipswithmarrow5836 Went for a physiotherapy today - she told me to see a neurologist. 😞 every time I turn my head left to right - I can hear my neck grinding. I will keep trying your exercises - thank you so much.
i have that too mostly on my right side since january everyday get random short sharp shooting pains in my head and my neck on the same side feels so locked and painful underneath the scull my Head Mri and cervucal spine MRI was normal beside a kyphosis in my neck but nothing major
Agreed!!!! Hope this truth does get louder. People are getting worse with stretching! And people are creating Cervical Instability. It's more than disc pathology, it's messing up mechano & proprioception. You hit everything greatly.
@vincentvega3747 yes, stretching a tense muscle on an Instable joint, only pulls the joint. Stretching only helps with a post workout, not in a spasm or adhesion. PT stretches kept making me worse and worse, and finally destroyed all my ability to function normal
@vincentvega3747 A bit, but damage was furthered by the PT stretching on a torn ligament. With PRP injections it went away a lot, but my issue is also anterior skull/neck
I tried these exercises and they felt really good. I did have two questions. Does cervicogenic dizziness include light headedness? I sometimes feel light headed when I walk up stairs. Also your technique of not stretching the neck is a minority viewpoint among the presenters on youtube. Can you talk more about this?
Great questions and thanks for commenting. Cervicogenic headaches are a common side effect seen with dizziness. They are treated with the same exercise program. Stretching is still very common but very outdated. There has never been a good research study that stretching gave long term relief for cervicogenic dizziness or headaches.
We are not set up for out of state consultations right now but we are looking into it. Currently I am only licensed to practice in Florida. Thanks for watching.
