Another bad knee movement I discovered is getting in the driver’s side of the car by putting the right leg in and then twisting on the left knee. I now sit on the seat and then swing both legs in. My pain vanished as has that of many friends I’ve recommended this to.

1:50 don't stand so straight that your knees are locked, but knees a bit bend. 4:20 don't stand long on one leg locked, better alternate 4:50. If your job needs long standing, have soft cushion inserts. 5:58 have a swirling chair to facilitate sit-stand 6:45 exercise after standing/sitting for an hour Don't kneel, don't cross legs too long, 10:47 take short strides in walking 12:00 sleep, have a pillow or wedge under your knees

The trick is to keep checking your knee posture often throughout the day and correct yourself each time you notice you’ve locked knees. Tuck your pelvis a little, bend the knees and engage the thigh muscles (which helps strengthen them). I found I improved knee posture quickly. I need to work on smaller strides and avoid hell walking.

I'm doubled jointed so my knees lock back further. I think I have developed crepitus from it, because my knees crunch when I bend them and squat. I had an x-ray preformed from which the results came back normal (which i assume means no noticeable damage). I then started to develop pain as well as the crunching. I had since identified the pain and concluded that I have quad tendonitis. I've been doing some cross fibre massage which seems to be helping.

My husband is a little over that and has a lot of height related joint problems, which is why I'm here. Just wondering if you've made any modifications to your car and if you don't mind the question, what sort of car do you drive? We got him a Mitsubishi Triton because it was the only car/Ute for sale at the time, that he fit in 'adequately' but most of his pain still comes from the shape of the seat and lack of leg room. In hindsight we should have tried harder to get an automatic. He uses a lumbar support cushion but it decreases the leg room slightly more. Any tips on making driving more tall person friendly?

My mum had terrible knee problems in her later years,and found out it was because she’d always sat with one leg tucked underneath her. So the knee was at an acute angle as well as her weight being on top of that bent knee. I always told people in the office not to do this because of her experience, but sadly none of them took any notice.

Please dont stress to much, the anticipation of operation is frightening and you need the six weeks to recover, it is not a picnic but try to get mobile as soon as you can. Laurie, Longer strides exercise has different purpose, that includes the Lounges movement. You need to incorporate this exercise in daily routine. Learn to do Taichi Exercise. It covers all the exercises that these doctors mentioned. I am a Taichi Instructor for 2 decades. My students are seniors n middle-agers. These doctors ARE NOT FLEXIBLE. Very awkward looking seniors compare to my senior taichi students. The shorter ones is more typical senior...perfect to practice taichi routine. Learn to meditate with cross-legged position. All the monks do that n it never bother them with knee pains. This skinny tall doctor knows nothing about knees.
@bumbelbop411
@bumbelbop411 3 года назад
@@peacebe2u480 The monks may or may not have knee pain (you can't speak for "all monks") but the same goes for the majority of people in the past. It's the modern age that is the largest culprit regarding knee pain. We're meant to move way more than we are doing now and when we do walk/run/train we tend to do it wrong (because we do it so little), which also can result in pain. Knee pain isn't "natural" in the vast majority of cases: it's caused by an unnatural behaviour which is often related to our modern lifestyle. Taichi seems cool but it isn't some kind of perfect solution to knee pain. But you seem like a preacher so nothing I say will probably change your mind.

I’m now 48 and dealing with “Runner’s Knee” (Chondromalacia Patella) again, despite having had surgery (arthroscopic) about 10 years ago to scrape all the built-up excess cartilage out. PT says Mine is due to hip malalignment and pelvic tilt. I’m now rethinking all the things I do (sit Criss-cross applesauces nearly all day), sleep on my side (though I do now keep a pillow between my knees), etc. It might be worth you occasionally visiting a Physical Therapist or Chiropractor to just check your alignment if you’re already hearing the pops, cracks and snaps. Just a thought. I sure wish I’d started seeing one sooner! Take care.

Love you guys. BUT re #4 Have you ever visited Japan, or other parts of Asia? A lot if human beings living there. No wonder our religions are so different (Catholics do kneel quite a lot). In Japan there is a sitting position called 'seiza." It's most common with women traditionally speaking, but both sexes can do it for extended periods of time, especially when it comes to formal and traditional ceremonies. (Remember, these are the people who sit on the floor) It's not the 'W' position you referred to, I'm sure you may know, or may easily look this up. My point, well we Mercans are raised differently to be sure, but in our culture, our religion, only the one knee position is sanctioned, that is, kneeling. There is the related gesture 'genu flexion' (genuflection in English), but it is only taken momentarily, to show respect, etc., like in the old old days of Europe when you did it in front of the monarch. And then there's India, oh yes. You guys must know all about yoga, surely. The caution about stressing joints is very necessary with Americans, but if they start slowly, as in a beginning yoga class, and obey the teacher not to overstretch or compress, they'll be fine. Also in the villages, in the islands of SE Asia there is what our bodybuilders are calling something like (village squat). It's a new trend or craze with some bodybuilders (who are doing squats all the time anyway). I've seen the old men (often with their roosters on display) squat all the way down (as if on a primitive toilet) and hold the position, perhaps swaying from time to time, for as long as an hour, or as long as the rain hasn't started yet and we've no work to do. So, my point is just, can you dig it?

Have couple of friends with full hip and knee replacements. They were on the heavy side, work behind the desk and don’t much exercise. A vicious circle. I think dropping to a reasonable BMI should help. I’ve been doing cafe raises and squats to prevent leg crams, so far so good. Asian squats, both feet flat to the ground as well as your bottom, should be beneficial for flexibility and mobility. I’m working on it, need to hold on to something.

As a school bus driver we do not have the right to go to the bathroom but the employer tells you to drink water and there is no restroom. Not only that we have to pass the OSHA physical yearly. So we have to be healthy. To be healthy you have to drink at least right glasses water but you cannot use the bathroom. OMG. I find employers are so unrealistic I just follow my eldest sons advice which had the origins from my teachings.

Had my left done about 10 years ago. Do the therapy and home exercises too. Might want to also strengthen upper body to help you get up & down easier. Don’t over do yourself either. Give yourself a good period of time to heal. It took me around 4 months to really feel like I was getting back to normal and even then I had some not so good days for about a year. Well here we are in June of 2021 & I’m scheduled to have total knee replacement in July of the other knee.

I’m an X-ray tech and often have to stand for long periods of time on hard floors while wearing a lead apron which adds additional forward weight. Ironically what got my knees hurting the most is when I had to do desk work for 3 months because of Covid. Sitting for 8 hours made my knees hurt so bad and they are still killing me. I think perhaps I was over flexing my knees. It’s easier to continue to stand than abruptly start sitting for long periods of time. If I’m in a long surgery case I will often do leg stretches and sometimes wall sits if I’m in between periods where they need me to operate the equipment. Pushing heavy awkward equipment doesn’t help either. I was exercising pretty regularly until the gyms closed down. Now the only exercise available is walking which is what hurts the most. Thinking of getting a stationary bike to help strengthen the knees and give me some sort of cardio. Getting older sucks.
@traceysouth1047
@traceysouth1047 2 года назад
I have the same problem and I imagine it's because sitting shortens the muscles that support the knee. (the Quads or Hamstrings ?) so when those are short and tight , it makes painful setup for knees ; I have RA and OA and sitting for even brief periods causes me more pain in knees than anything
@buelan.6525

Stationary bike that gives resistance going forward AND backwards gets rid of my pain. Just a forward pedal doesn’t.

Very informative, but left me with questions. Please, make a video explaining why a properly performed lotus or modified lotus position is bad for ones back and knees. Also, include suggestions on a proper way to sit on a hard, flat surface, like a tiled floor. Thanks!
@aliceharvey1226
@aliceharvey1226 4 года назад
A M My thoughts on this are that lotus causes strain on your knees because they are not simply bending in the normal range. The leg also goes to the side, so if you attempt to bend the knee into that position, without turning the whole leg, starting from the hip, then you are putting all the torque on the knee. So if you learn how to turn the leg, then bend. the knee, you should be ok, of course different bodies have different strengths or problem spots. As for the back, sitting perfectly in lotus takes a strong, healthy back. Many yoga poses will help with this, however sitting on a cushion raises the hips, helping to take the strain off the back. And that’s all I can offer.,
