So first of all I want to apologize for the long gap in the video. College life has me rushing to get videos up. Second of all check out the DPU as it passes. You'll see the hose swinging around. Didn't notice it until today haha!
Easy to spot the hose when you hear that there are 486 axles on the train and the defect is near axle 486 -- has to be something at the rear-end of the DPU.
Used to work for one of the iron ore companies in Western Australia and always hated hearing "Detector at X kilometer you have a defect". Good when it wasn't your train but felt for the person going for a walk.
@RS5T_RRO note how the total is marked as the one detected. That confirms it was the DPU. It 100% had to be the airhose since it shouldn't be hanging that low in the first place The last was 486 the axle it detected it near was 486. The air hose was just low enough to trip it
I remember one time at train broke down right about mile post 101.4ish heading westbound. It had every single crossing in Ruston locked for over an hour. What they ended up doing is combining two trains. They also had to do a crew change on both trains. I definitely grabbed my radio and watched all that get dealt with. It was almost midnight if not a little bit later if I recall. I don’t use scanners for listening to railroads anymore. I’ve upgraded to HAM radios. Much better range. Not to mention being able to listen to two channels at once is great when I need to.
1:35 Easily spotted - rear DPU air hose flipping around (loose) clipping the track & ballast as it drops down again (see it do this several times) - so yeah - dragging equipment.
Awesome video LRP and love the GEVO POWER! Was wondering what type camera you use bcuz the pic is always clear and crisp! We all understand that you can't post videos like you want w going to school etc! @@gigatheprotogen it might be related to how many defects it detects at once. If there are a bunch it'll say critical alarm. Still wildly dependent on individual rail lines
It depends on if it catches the middle of the equipment that is dragging or catches ballast flying up from it. In this case it caught the air hose on axle 486 hanging just low enough to trip the detector It does depend on railroad though
It's a safety thing. Trains in the US, and I believe the rest of North America, are required to blow the horn in a specific pattern before every crossing, except in areas where horns are specifically restricted. There was an accidental study that proved its effectiveness a while back where a city passed a law preventing trains from blowing their horns at crossings and deaths (or at least accidents, I can't quite remember) at the crossings rose by something like 30%. The AAR passed something that basically said their rules overruled those of city, reinstated the horns in that city, and the rate went back down to what it had been before. For the record, as an American, seeing trains not blow their horns at every crossing seems weird and off-putting. They seem underutilized to me. It's what you're used to.
@@andreasu.3546 You get used to it. And I've heard from my dad, who grew up very close to tracks, that it can actually be comforting. Regardless, modern US railroads are extremely safety-focused, and would much rather have more safety, even if it's a bit of annoyance for the general populace. Plus, where I live at least, most track runs through wooded areas and the like, meaning it's not all that loud. The road noise from the highway is typically louder than it. And trains don't go by very often, maybe a couple times a day. The nearest track to me isn't technically a mainline, though.
So the detector said the dragging equipment was around axle 486 of a train that had 486 axles. I didn't see anything dragging from the helper unit. Also....your editing helper me feel like it was 10 years ago. The detector at Grambling used to be located at MP 110.5...at the LA 563 crossing. The video was edited perfectly to make me think the detector was in its original location.
First of all, AN issue. Second of all, there are no conductors on a freight train. 🤣 Conductors are the people on passenger trains (and sometimes busses) who check tickets, the operator drives the train. I would brush up on your English and train crew knowledge.
Considering I know people whose job title is conductor for Class 1's and shortlines, I'd love to know what you mean by this. Cause I'm not gonna lie, this comment has me a bit confused. Maybe you have a different term wherever you're from.
@@LouisianaRailProductions I'm the first generation of my family born in the US so I'm not American per se, but I've lived here my whole life. I've never known there to be a conductor on a freight train, only the operator/engineer and the guard. Maybe you call the guard a conductor for some reason even though they barely do anything on the train, they mostly just deal with ground operations.
@GigaTheProtogen We have 3 titles for members of a train crew: engineer (known in Europe as the train driver), conductor (train boss) and brakeman (assists the conductor with switching).
@@LouisianaRailProductions Everyone in the US maybe, but even though I live here, I don't keep up with much. I find it a bit strange that out of the eight countries that speak English as a first language, the US is the only one to omit the "U" in words like "colour" and have the "e" in the middle of a word such as "center" instead of "centre." I don't generally keep up with how the US does things.
I believe you mean "you're cracking me up" or " you crack me up" and you forgot the comma before "bud." Also based on the comment you pinned, you don't know how to use proper grammar either, plus the fact that you use "a" instead of "an" before a word beginning with a vowel. So looks like that writing class was a waste of time.
