Stop Trying So Hard And Let Go!

This week, I speak about chronic burnout and the path back to our art. It is easy for an artist to get caught up in the web of the ego and lose sight of why they make art to begin with. I have found that by getting in touch with memories of when we first began, writing songs, painting, playing music we can often find the true spirit that initiated our pursuit of art. By leaning into the conditions that first released this spirit we can repair our relationship with creating. It is all about letting go. As the trees let go of the leaves in this season I encourage you to follow their ancient example and let go of what is no longer serving you. When you do, you might begin to uncover memories that lead you back to a more pure artistic intention. Follow these memories! Restore your relationship! Create for the sake of it! Let Go!

You express yourself with such honesty and fearlessness, you openly put your vulnerabilities on the table… it’s enviable. It’s inspiring.

Found ur content yesterday, and I have to say, these are some of the most valuable videos I have ever come across on youtube!! I took off back in Summer 2018 being a fun local rapper, first at my high school youth group, and then I eventually started rapping for local events. I have a song with a meme status similar to that of Old Town Road, and although this song is still extremely fun to perform every now and then, I actually decided to stop doing gigs in October 2019. Then covid happened, which gave me a much needed chance to start working on myself. Your videos give me this certain feeling of nostalgia that I haven’t felt that feeling since lockdown 2020, and it feels beautiful! Please keep doing your wonderful work here Jimi, and keep inspiring others😁

Damn, thanks for your wonderful comment. Truly made my day. Covid really shifted things, I feel that deeply. I think so many people could relate to your story. Thanks for taking the time my friend!

I was listening to an Al Di Meola album recently and I heard a group of four notes that I recognized as something I had rejected over 40 years ago. I realized that my laziness toward developing material that was coming at me prevented me from playing at his level. Endeavoring to retain these pop up ideas has opened up a wealth of unique compositions and angles which are me. So that the value of value lies more in the realization...

I’ve been binge watching your videos and I am so grateful I found such a beautiful likeminded soul. I have been so hard on myself trying to make my art a product because I have a dream of actually living off my music…. I’m having so many realizations and that sometimes that may not ever be the case.

Hey Jimmy what type of music do you write and perform? I'm a singer trying to break into the music industry and I'm looking for original songs to sing. I'm not much of a writer. I'm somebody who more is a singer. I write my own lyrics but I wouldn't dare release them as my own songs because I think my writing sucks so I would rather sing someone else's songs. I don't know if I released my own so-called songs if people would like them so I would rather sing a song that someone else wrote.

Hey man, recently came across your videos and I’m really enjoying them. This one particularly resonated with me. Similar to you I’ve recently got out of the gigging grind where I was playing any and every cover show going - weddings, corporate, pubs, bars, birthdays, you name it - and came to the same burnout. Only recently have I started reconnecting with the original passion of wanting to create something my own away from the algorithm based noise and advice. Back on the playground and out of the classroom in that respect. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks, man. Do you have a link to any of your music? Keep up with the great content!! This one resonated especially 🙏

Thanks man! I feel that for sure. That's why I had to get out and re-assess what the hell I was doing. Glad to hear others like me doing the same. I really think it's important. Here's a link to my music. Thanks so much for dropping in. Keep doing your thing! ♥️ open.spotify.com/artist/5RN2lAPDLUT7Nni5DAPcHQ?si=DizN0qZWQWyphBJbbwx8QA

@@jimiwmusic thank you, man. Yeah I think it’s so important too. The only act I know who is doing super well by “older metrics” shall we say (manager, record contract) etc are some old friends going under the moniker Big Special and they had the guts to be different and wow are they are doing well. You should check them out. Hopefully a sign that change is coming. All the best, man. Keep up the great work and happy new year 🙏❤️
