Wow, I didn’t even realize I did the last one! Definitely I get bummed out when a food is gone, or when I’m full because I wanted more. It’s always crucial to remind myself that food is always there and I can have it when my body is ready for it again

I wish I had found these videos years ago! I struggled with emotional eating for decades and it got worse overtime. I ended up having gastric bypass surgery 6 months ago because my health was deteriorating. I went through a lot of therapy and the surgery was a blessing but it’s only a tool. I think I am a work in progress on the emotional eating front. I’m going to turn to journaling when I get the urge to eat when not hungry to see if that helps!

I can leave one addiction,but then move to another one..before im use food as coping mechanism,i was alcoholic and cant stop smoke cigarette,i make a commitment to stop those addiction,then i was succeed..but then now as long my void,emptiness,painful Emotion not yet resolve,i move to another one which is food addiction..so the key is this void inside my chest that slowly Torn me apart

I feel like emotional eating is fine, as long as it's not your ONLY coping mechanism. Sometimes some ice-cream will make me feel better, but most of the time a nice walk or phone call does the trick!

I think for me, my struggle with boundaries doesn't stop with food. My tendency to eat past fullness I truly feel reflects on my inability to say no because I feel somehow I'm disappointing others by not finishing the food on my plate

I agree with not eating when you're feeling sad just to make yourself feel better, but it is hard when we celebrate with food as well! I have tried to stop celebrating with food all the time and it is helping! I don't get an extra scoop of ice cream because I made a great video or something!

Wow the last part hit me! I said goodbye to dieting over a month ago and I’ve been feeling amazing following intuitive and mindful eating - I thought “I think I’ll never binge/ overeat again”, but this past Sunday I was eating and all the food was so good I kept going back for more and it didn’t feel like my past binges where I was out of control - it felt like I just loved the taste so much that I wanted to keep tasting it and I knew I could eat it tomorrow but I didn’t want to wait. And I was trying to find a reason but there was none - no boredom, no loneliness, no anxiety or stress so I was confused - I thought maybe it was because of my period but then last month it didn’t happen. Now it makes sense! Like the guy you talk about - I simply was sad that the eating experience was over and I was full - it’s kinda crazy. Now I know from that Sunday experience that eating more did feel good at the moment because I got to taste the food more BUT I was stuffed - like a 9 on the hunger scale and it left me feeling not only physically bad that day but also the next day - I Will remember that and make a different choice next time.

Holy Crap. The sadness when food ends concept is blowing my mind. I certainly have this but never could put it into these words or thought of it as a choice between two sadness poles. I grew up with food insecurity. Poor household and the youngest of a family of 6. I often got the least or no food because of being the youngest. Yet I was taller, bigger framed (even when thin) and more active than my siblings. So I don't just get sadness but anxiety. I feel quite anxious not eating what I think is enough or not feeling stuffed. Almost like a franticness to get "enough". Probably because we used to fight over food or didn't know when we'd get food again or kinds of food again. But I'm grown now and food is steady. I shouldn't be feeling this way and felt helpless on how to change it. Finally I have a way to think of it to give my brain a choice. Anxiety comes from being overstuffed too: the weight increase, the bloating and heartburn, the interrupted sleep, the lack of control, the plowing through groceries, and more. I may be able to sit with the franticness and anxiety now that you've opened my mind that I can choose to have that old anxiety without answering it in order to stop having the latter anxiety. And I bet it'll wane over time if I can do this because the lack of food is, thank goodness, not true anymore. 🤯 That was all to say THANK YOU... for all of your content.

Your story just opened my eyes!! I've just realized why I can't stop eating when I'm full. I'm literally scared somewhere deep inside that I might not get food again because as a child I also was in the situation where my family had almost no food or it was gone too fast because there's too many members in this family, I almost never had an opportunity to choose what I want to eat and there were situations where my parents would restrict food to punish me for something Now when I finally understood this I hope I can move forward and keep healing Thank you for your story❤
@rrooster8218
@rrooster8218 Год назад
@@sofiekatz6201 Yes I wish you well. Big hugs. I've got a better handle on this since I posted. Still a little trouble at dinner when I'm eating with the family but better. It's crazy, my siblings too have had to break issues like wanting to sample and eat all the groceries as soon as they come in the house because "they may go quickly" (even though now they actually last). Also one sister had to have her husband point out and break her of the habit of grocery shopping and then once near the register start picking out things to put back. He had to convince her that they could actually afford all that they put in the cart. Past food insecurity messes up your mind once you have security with it. It took awhile to realize I still picked mono meals when alone. Like, lunchtime, "I'll have some crackers". No, I could have crackers with a sandwich or cheese and veggies etc. I think having partners who grew up differently is what helped with a lot of it because they just are flabbergasted and offer us choices that blows our minds.

@@sofiekatz6201 Yes. Sorry to assume. Any first world country shouldn't have citizens with food issues. This topic could go deep, like food insecurity is often not a factor that comes up when questioning the modern obesity epidemic, and it most certainly should be because of the disordered eating it causes. On that note, I bring it back to wishing you peace with your eating and that you feel safe and secure. 🤗

This was such an encouraging video. I know what one of my main issues is, overwhelm. I work from home, and when any part of my day/life I start feeling overwhelmed and I just don't know what to do next, or so many things to do next, I don't know where to start, family needs me, etc... I want to eat something sweet. I know it is, I just don't know the 5 things I would list to get past the overwhelm. Maybe step away from my desk, do some deep breathing exercises, things like that. I also was encouraged by your comment that you view food as an accessory to a celebration, not the main event. I need to figure that out in my life. It seems like when I want to get together with friends or family it's always 'lets grab a bite'. I am working on finding other options. :)

I do that! Because it taste so good. Taste hunger. I also feel it comes from childhood. We didnt have alot of things Cookies, brownies, gummies often, and when it was there there was not enough or it was always a race between brothers and sisters to eat before anyone else eats. So i was thinking maybe i keep eating it or have no self control when I have those things in my home, because it wont be there later? However i have nooone else in my house. HahHa. So its not going anywhere. Mostly in my head its because it taste so good, but i think subconsciously it goes back to childhood. If that makes sense. Thank you for the tips to be more mindful.

holy shit that last bit about feeling sadness when you realize you’re full was a revelation. it’s the same type of feeling for me as like. post-concert or post-vacation depression, something i also remember feeling when coming down from weed highs when i used to smoke regularly. for me it’s definitely indicative of a deep sense of unfulfillment in life- realizing i’m full means my dopamine high is almost over and now i have to go back to feeling like crap. i’d really never thought of it that way until now. 😭

@nd6286

also my mindful tip is about 'threshold'. Where you go from zero flavor (no food) to full flavor (just ate something). after the first few bites the taste 'threshold' has been crossed and you can't go back. More of the same won't taste better after you cross the threshold. at that point be mindfully content with flavor that wont get better with more, and then stop.

Those of us raised by parents/grandparents who lived through the Great Depression or one of the other more recent economic downturns, were in an atmosphere of eat as much now as you can, because you might not have it again...ever...or there might not be enough later to go around. That and my mother immersed in diet culture influenced me to eat as much as possible, but be ashamed later for what I was eating and how much I was gaining. I remember I was about 8 and the whole family went on Weight Watchers. My dad and mom, both said if they had one more dinner with fish in it, they were going to lose it! lol...ahhh...the 60s and 70s!

I’ve been wanting to lose weight since forever even since I was a tiny thing( for a look, I’m 4’9, 119 lbs) but my only problem is my emotional crave for food. After covid hit I think everything in me mentally change and without knowing it, food became my comfort, and that’s not how it should be at all. I’m 14 and am planning on loosing weight this summer before 9th grade starts. I’m tired of feeling weird in my body and being a little overweight. This video pointed out some good factors for me to detach myself from emotional eating cause I’m sick and tired of it.

One of my issues with eating certain trigger foods, is the negative pattern of even when something in my brain/body signals that I may have had enough, another switch is powered up telling me to eat it until it's gone..... or even to eat that particular food til I feel unwell, in hopes that I won't want it ever again.... which obvs is unhealty and just as obvs, doesn't work. If I have enough to deal with the taste hunger, I will obsessively think about this food til it's gone....😪

Sometimes I have to work long hours, wake up super early and do stuff that I don't want, so I stuff my face with food (mostly junk food) to help me get through the day. Most times, at the end of the day I just feel so tired and down that I need something Sweet or fast food to help me feel ok. Is this emotional eating? I still face my problems while eating through. Having junk food only makes It easier for me. The feelings are basically tired, tired and tired. And I can't do any other thing because I have to work, usually on meetings, so I can't be coloring, watching videos or distracting myself. I can't even be listening to music.

I didn't lose my period for as long (I had it once in 1.5 years before I got it back) so I'm sure the answer to this depends on the severity of your restriction,etc. However, I just wanted to share that I did not track calories or try to eat a lot of food, I just started following intuitive eating and I got my period back in a little less than half a year.
