Therma-Shield Heat Protection Gel
PREVENTS HEAT DAMAGE - Protects components and surrounding materials during soldering, brazing and welding.
PROVIDES A PROTECTIVE HEAT BARRIER - Reduces transfer of heat through metal during welding, soldering and open flame contact.
REDUCES DOWNTIME - Eliminating costly and time consuming disassembly of valves and other components before soldering, brazing or welding.
FAST AND EASY TO APPLY - Just spray onto the surface to be protected.
THICK GEL FORMULA - Non-running gel adheres to most surfaces without dripping or running off.
ELIMINATES DISTORTION TO METAL - Reduces or eliminates distortion to metal caused by the heat of welding.
TEMPORARY FIRE RETARDANT - Prevents fire from occurring or spreading. Spray combustible areas when soldering to keep materials from burning.
SAFE - Non-flammable, non-toxic, non-corrosive and biodegradable.
BENEFITS:
Protects wiring, wood, paper, plastic, insulation, fabric, painted surfaces and other materials while welding or soldering.
Protects valve seals and seats from heat damage during soldering.
Protects soldered joints from loosening when soldering new joints.
Prevents distortion of metal caused by the heat of welding.
Prevents spatter from adhering to surrounding surfaces.

That's a very interesting product. When I worked welding sheet metal we would clamp aluminum bars to the weldment. It works very well on inside corners like your test piece. For your second example it would be difficult to get the aluminum in the right place.

Hey Doug, just found your channel, try turning the volts down on the welder and push the puddle don't drag it. SS tig you want the metal around the welds to be colorful not black. Hope this helps, thank you for the awesome ideas!

I've MIG welded 16 gauge corners like that. You might try back stepping your weld. I've done it that way and ended up with nice straight corners. Cheers.

Let's just say, my thumb decided to be at the wrong place at the wrong time while using an extremely sharp carpet knife and the gloves took most of the damage

@@paullang1961 So you're using an air hose to cool the steel? between welds? I've been using wet rags which has helped but once the water heats up it does a pour job as dispersing the heat. I've also tried using aluminum next to the weld as a heat sink, which helps but also slows the process down waiting for it to cool. Because in my shop time = money, waiting between welds increases the time to complete a project. The gel allows me to weld straight through without stopping a waiting for the piece to cool. I'll have to try the air hose method to see how that works. And this particualr gel is non toxic which is one of the cool things about it. Thanks for the suggestion Paul.

Yeah I've actually had it for a while and only recently started using it and found that it is greatly reduced the roller coaster effect in some of my projects 😉
