If you place those pits in a small cooking pot and add balsamic vinegar you can create a very delicious cherry reduction for your fresh salads, it's honking awesome!!

That cherry vinegar looks so good. I have a use for even those spent pits for you, even after the vinegar. Dry them well and sew them into bags. Use like the rice bags for sore muscles. You warm the rice bags and/or the cherry pit bags in the microwave. My husband has arthritis and it is so soothing in the winter. Great for using up literally everything😃

I hear you Melissa. Dehydrating cherries is an amazing way to preserve and enjoy that fruit. Another fantastic way to preserve them is by making brandied cherries. This is an historic colonial method to store many fruits. The cherries were specifically preserved this way because brandied cherries are an historic colonial Christmas treat. Right up there with brandied sugar plums. The colonists knew their fruit preservation for sure.

👍 Great idea for the pits with the vinegar! But even better than vinegar, try brandy, rum, or vodka .. some sugar or honey to taste, and 1 or 2 cloves and a few shards of cinnamon. .. Orrrr .. keep the pits in the cherries, but slice the cherries from pole to pole (like an olive); then pack them in an airtight jar; add the optional spices; fill the gaps with sugar; and then whatever gaps remain with brandy, rum, or vodka → you'll end up with pickled cherries that will last longer than your will-power, and which you can enjoy in a gazillion ways .. PLUS a delicious, divine, inky "liqueur" that you can sip in pure pleasure or experiment with in cocktails and desserts.

HELP ME! I see how knowledgeable you are about canning and I canned green beans for the first time in the pressure cooker. Followed all instructions. 1 quart and 25min under 11lbs. When I got one can out, it was hot boiling and it seems like water gushed out of the jar. Then it stopped when I set it down on the towel. It sealed okay. Today I noticed that some of the other cans, the beans were not fully covered by water, maybe 2cm above the water level (I packed them raw and they obviously absorbed water as they were cut). But I wonder if this is okay.
@MelissaKNorris
@MelissaKNorris Год назад
With pressure canning you need to do more than one jar at a time (most canners have a minimum to ensure proper pressure is achieved) but when it's reduced pressure naturally, you remove the lid and wait a full 10 minutes before removing the jars. That will help the siphoning you're referring too
@seekwisdom5102
@seekwisdom5102 Год назад
@@MelissaKNorris Sorry I was not more detailed. I had 7 quarts inside, but when I opened and removed the first one, water gushing. I then put this one in the towel over the counter and left the other 6 inside. I waited and removed them later and let it sit. A couple hours later I noticed that they are not all the way full, which looking at photos online, they seem to look like them. They are all sealed nice. The water level are okay, but now I wonder if the first one , because I saw the water coming out, I am afraid its not safe. The pressure did fluctuate, a few times I saw it at 15lbs and I lowered the temp and it went down to 11. it was never bellow. My question its that if these are okay to store. I have been so afraid of botulism. I canned dried beans before, many years ago, but never got them out of the canner this early. I needed the burner and thought it was a good idea to just get them out.
