Stopped By The Ugandan Military! (#50)

In western Uganda, along the border with Congo, lies the Rwenzori Mountains, and I was excited to go see what was over there. We took a “taxi”, also known as a bus in Uganda, to the outskirts of the mountain, where languages I had never heard of before like Amba and Teso were spoken. But before the fun could begin, the Ugandan military had some words for us…in Swahili?

Well I would say ignorant to do in Africa, beacuse they can look you up later and no Embassy can help you then, but an understanding soldier will do even better. I once passed thru a military detach in Algiers on foot alone almost got lockedup, but atlking despite then not listening to me let me off. Algiers is so huge and I wanted to see where getting lost would land me, because I didn´t want to get a cab. endedup meeting a Grandmother with her kids who was really inviting almost talked me into settling there

Tommy does it again! Great video! 4:52 African beauty - the UG women are very attractive! I also want her number! Tommy, whatever you are paying the side kick,it is not enough, she really make your video very interesting!(esp. for men) UG soldiers speak swahili because in 1978,TZ soldiers invaded UG to remove Idd Amini... The TZ soldiers stayed behind to train and build the new UG army. Also because President Museveni was in exile in TZ and got support from former TZ president Nyerere, so he promoted swahili to unify the Army.

Interesting stuff. I knew the Tanzanians were the ones who kicked out Idi Amin, but had no idea they basically brought Swahili into their military! And as for her, well I've got no money to pay anyone atm, so I'm just keeping her occupied with my dumb jokes

So I'm coming south on Thailand Highway 107. I pass a couple of slow moving vehicles but a high speed car coming the other direction makes me accelerate and when I do, my helmet visor blows up and hits my GoPro. Around the next curve is the Chiang Dao Inspection Station, as I pulled in, I reached up to see if the GoPro was OK. When I did, a Thai Inspector Captain flagged me to the inspection lane. He came over and asked what I had in my carry-on luggage behind me on the motorcycle, I replied cameras. He pointed at the GoPro I had on my helmet and said that is a camera, too. I agreed and he said I want it. Now these inspectors deal with smugglers and have machine guns, this was south of the Golden Triangle. I wasn't sure if he wanted my GoPro or just wanted one in the future so I told him, You can't have mine because I am photographer but I will trade you my motorcycle for that very attractive female inspector. He burst out laughing, he translated for the rest of the inspectors, they burst out laughing, and several of them came over and patted me on the back before I rolled out. A smile and a good attitude work wonders.

Tommy did you pass through Masaka to get where you are? Masaka is my birthplace. Wish you had filmed your road journey from Kampala onwards. Would have liked to see that. Very abrupt ending. waiting for next episode. It will be nice if you can film to show us continuous journeys instead of starting from where you did in the middle of nowhere. The young guy leading you seems smart and honest.
