If you want to stop the cheating in horse racing, watch this video!
There is a lot of talk about stopping cheating in horse racing. Most of us know the cheaters will always be one step ahead of those who try to catch them and get them out of the game. Can it be done? We say yes. It takes time, resources, money and most importantly money and a true commitment. The industry can't be worried about field sizes, they have to worry about the horse first.
Far too much goes on that shouldn't. We have all become too tolerant to some degree. It has to stop. We as an industry don't need to change the perception of the game. We need to change the game itself. If we do that the perception will follow.
Jeff Metz as a trainer battling the cheaters, and Jonathan Stettin as a longtime player who has beat this game both weigh in with solid but hard thoughts on how cheating can and must be stopped. Some may agree, some may disagree and some may be on the fence. The bottom line is if we don't do all of this, and not any watered down or sugar coated version the cheaters will be here to stay. Don't worry though, if we don't the sport will remain on life support just so long. Cheerleading only goes so far if you can't play. We are at a crossroads and the Horse Racing Safety and Integrity Act is a nice start and we are cautiously optimistic. They need help though. Help from lobbyists and legislation and law enforcement on the federal level.
The time has come to go full court press for reform. We're spending millions if not billions at sales and on wagering let alone on TV and salaries. How about the horses and the small outfits struggling to keep the former sport of kings going? Stopping cheating and creating a level playing field is the only way to take care of the horse. As an industry we have to put up or shut up.
If we don't stop the cheating, get used to the picture of Saratoga.
We hope you enjoy the show, show some support, and share the video and podcast! The horses and the game are depending on it!

I just saw this video and I know it's 2 years old so I'm sure I'm commenting out into the ether. Racing needs a good PR program too. When I was young I had and trained a few cheap harness race horses. One of the reasons I got out was because of all the back stabbing and rumors. I was working 3rd shift and then taking care of my horse after work. It was a lot of time and effort and as soon as you get a little success, the rumors start flying that you are doping your horse. Never to your face but to all the other horsemen, and owners. It's so competitive that there are others that want to tear you down and will say anything. I'm not saying there isn't cheating going on but there are also a lot of false accusations which also damage the sport. Wherever there is money, there is cheating. There is cheating in every professional sport and on Wall Street. Look at the NFL for example. Mahomes, QB from the Chiefs couldn't even walk, goes into the lockerroom, comes back out and is running all over the field, Tua, QB for Miami, gets concussions, and the teams says he had a back issue and puts him back out onto the field. Horse racing is in competition with the NFL and other pro sports that are all being gambled on legally. Horse racing is far and above more diligent and strict about cheating than other sports. You don't hear anyone talking about how the NFL is crooked. Sometimes I think horse racing brings on a negative perception to itself. Having said that, it would be beautiful if doping could be taken away from the sport. I believe there are some ongoing therapies that include medications that should allowed while racing. They can be beneficial to the horse. There should be a level field for competition but these types of talks should encompass all professional sports.

Good points were made but lets get real racing has always had cheating and that won't change. As long as there are no consequences for their acts theses criminals will never stop.

I can't argue against that. I agree with you.

Looked up horse named Masochistic and he never won at 3 and never won at Churchill. What horse were you talking about?

You must of spelled it wrong. Masochistic was the name and if you google it the stories will come up.

@@PastTheWireTV The only horse I could find on Pedigree Query by that name won the first time at 4 and all his on the board finishes were in California. He is by Sought After. I he the one you referred to? Think you have the wrong horse but a good story. You are the best mistakes happen.

@@goodflop255 This is from the Bloodhorse article: On debut in March, Masochistic finished fifth in a state-bred maiden race at Santa Anita, but he was eventually DQ'd to eighth after he tested positive for elevated levels of the tranquilizer acepromazine. Racing officials also questioned the ride of jockey Omar Berrio. In Masochistic's next race, on the Kentucky Derby (G1) undercard in 2014, the Cal-bred won an open maiden special weight race at odds of 2-1. Kentucky Horse Racing Commissioner Ned Bonnie called for the wagering on the race to be investigated, because he felt Churchill Downs may have been used to carry out a betting coup.

@@PastTheWireTV Ok now that makes more sense, It was a maiden race he won at Churchill and he must have won 4 other allowance or maiden races somewhere. He won 4 stakes in California. See he was disqualified in his last race in Cal before the maiden race at CD for using a tranquilizer, LOL. Thanks for the clarification. All the best

I don't think it would be fair to mandate the horses can only see state vets. That's like saying a person can only go to a city hospital. I do think the centralized pharmacy, testing all the horses including hair and freezing the samples and the other ideas mentioned are good ones.

How often does another barn dope someone else's horse to give them a bad name or get their horse thrown out of a race? The horse won't tell!
