What does a magic trick have to do with the house implosion in Poltergeist? On which movie did CA glue (aka "superglue") replace five-minute epoxy in modelmaking? What was George Lucas' main directive to his team at ILM? On the historic 32TEN (formerly ILM) sound stage, special effects artists Lorne Peterson and Sean House tell Adam Savage some surprising stories behind many of our favorite films, including Poltergeist, Temple of Doom and Return of the Jedi.

The wealth of knowledge and fun is absolutely wonderful and reminds me of why I became a model maker. 😊 thanks Tested, this is gold

Man, this has to be such a surreal moment for you Adam, literally standing inside the exact building, talking to this legend, that made some of your top films. All of these untold heroes, working in the background, behind the curtains, that made our movies come to life. Some of these movies, quite literally build us as human beings, thought us how to be human, when our parents failed to do so, making us into the people we are today. Some of us might not have been alive today, if it wasn't for such epic movies to escape ourselves into. Thank you Lorne Peterson and Sean House, for your contributions to our lives.

23:20 The employee who thought of his technique as the reason his employment is safe is missing this important point : If you're the only one who can do a job them you will never be promoted because nobody can replace what you're doing. But when that technique is no longer needed what do you do? We may think of it as job stability but it's really job stagnation and in the end you become more replaceable, not less.

Absolutely wholesome to listen to these stories from a big family of creatives. I am fortunate enough to have been part of some of those work-families myself in life (not in your industry), but some of the stories resonate with me: pranking each other, trusting in each others professional opinion, etc. Must be extra special to - in retrospect - have been part of building some of the most iconic film history; makes me wish I was a part of it myself. I may have fit right in :) but thanks for taking me along for a bit, after all, what you guys built is part of my childhood memories. Much love.

i would have given pretty much anything to spend just a few hours in that building. those folks were my childhood. they inspired my dreams. in highschool i was the guy who built the props for drama class. blood dripping axes, tear away clothes for quick change outfits, appleboxes for people to stand on, a boat well half of one for a Viking scene. i wanted to do what they and Adam did. things didn't turn out that way but i don't think i could ever truly be able to put into words how grateful i am to them for there inspiration.

This was absolutely amazing! As have all of the 32Ten episodes. But to see that sound stage where so much movie magic happened and it may be gone 😭 but this will definitely keep the memories alive.❤️ And Lorne was absolutely right at the end, there is a lot to be said about immaturity. I believe that adds to greatness. Even with directors like Spielberg or Cameron, they never lost that boyish wonder. Case in point, when Lorne explained to Spielberg how the undulation worked on Poltergeist and he had to try it and play around with it. No different for the model makers. Huge life lesson there. Never lose the childish wonder and be a little immature sometimes. Thanks so much for brightening my day with this, Adam!

__ Here's an idea for you, in this same vein... Invite two or three of these industry veterans who worked together, or even just at ILM but maybe at different times, to just sit down to reminisce like this! With all of those who have worked at ILM/32Ten, this could be many many episodes worth of content... content that would need little editing, if any, I bet! Where to do it, I don't know... Maybe at Adam's place, if Adam's better-3/4s _(to borrow from @AvE)_ would be okay with it? But no specific topic other than share interesting (Star?) War stories 😅 Because as we're seeing here, the conversation kind of takes care of itself! One story inspires another, or might inspire Adam to ask a question, rinse and repeat! These people not only have a goldmine of _very_ interesting stories to tell about all the films (and probably shows!) that we all love dearly.... BUT they have stories that _deserve to be told!_ Without these fine people, we wouldn't have the films we have such fond memories of - at least not as we know them - so this can sorta be *their* time in the limelight, in a sense... I'll gladly shell out $30 to help buy snacks or libations (granted, not that it'd go very far currently), if it'd help make it happen!! 🥹 🙏 _edit: THAT ENDING SENTIMENT! I typed this before that point in the video, but that sure drives my point home!_ 😁
