🔊🎥🎬🇵🇭 On 22-25 February 1986 a series of demonstrations - mainly in Manila - brought millions of people to the streets to protest against the regime of President Ferdinand #Marcos. The protests were caused by the murder of Benigno Aquino, Jr., fraudulent elections, and decades of an authoritarian and repressive regime. The mostly non-violent people’s revolution resulted in the ousting of Marcos, and a return to relative democracy. People Power had a ripple effect throughout the region, and still inspires human rights defenders today.
We collaborated with our member DAKILA to explore stories and accounts of what transpired during the Martial Law regime that lead to the revolution, through the eyes of ordinary citizens who did extraordinary things towards attaining democracy in the country. #ESDARevolution #Philippines

FORUM-ASIA is happy to launch its new initiative called Stories of Change', in partnership with filmmakers from different Asian countries showcasing the narrative of individuals and their stories of how human rights changed their lives, both in cases where their rights are being violated or being recognised.
We dedicate these stories to all the brave human rights defenders who work tirelessly to fight against injustice around the world so all of us can exercise our rights.
