Stories Of Service | Doug Zembiec 

While I never met Doug, my brother-in-law Maj. Michael Martio USMC was a Cobra pilot who was on Forward Air Controller (FAC) duty with 2/1 Echo in Fallujah under Doug's command during the Fallujah battles in 2004. Call sign Oprah. I remember when Mike got back from that tour and he spoke about Doug with the utmost respect and awe. Doug and his Marines inspired Mike to be out front and center on almost every patrol into the city's northern sector, calling in air support to protect 2/1 and kill the insurgents. Mike said he would've gone right to the gates of hell to support Doug, and Fallujah in 2004 was pretty close to that. Mike was KIA during his next tour in Nov. 2005 in Anbar provence when his Cobra was shot down (GS66WWNF). When Doug was killed in 2007 our family attended the burial service at Arlington. I was so impressed with the huge number of top tier warriors who came to it - Marines, SEALS, and other operators. Now Mike and Doug lay only a few rows apart in Section 60. RIP to them and all who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

I had the distinct pleasure and honor to serve with Doug at 2d Force Reconnaissance Company. He truly was larger than life. Love You much Brother.

Gave a super legendary speech to his Marines before pushing into Fallujah. “The dogs of Fallujah will grow fat from the bodies we lay to waste.” Those Marines dumped so many insurgents it was impeding sectors of fire at times. Cody Alford has a great story where he mentions the Major on The Shawn Ryan Show. It gives a great account of the entire battle space and what Marines accomplished as well as sacrificed. U guys r all modern-day Spartans. Can't express my appreciation enough. If I was president any man who served this country especially in combat would never have 2 worry about housing, food, or medical care. This is tha least they deserve

I met Major Zembiec in Jump School in 1998, I think he was an O-3 at the time. Wish I'd known him better.

I just read the book “selfless beyond service” written by Doug’s wife Pamela. An awesome read and inspiring to read about the larger than life figure that was Maj. Zembiec

I was there in 2nd Force when he was the OIC of ARS and I met him and he was this strong, unrelenting, ungiving force of what a recon marine was and I remember him and that to this day. He was a Capt then, but I remember you always Capt “Z”

I’ve heard a few stories about this man. Some from the lads who were under his command & all of them talk about him with such high regard. Salute to him RIP The Lion Of Fallujah 🙏🏻 🙏🏻

God bless him, he gave the ultimate sacrifice, and for that we will all forever be in debt to him!

Why did you leave out the fact that he was a ground branch operative for the CIA. He rose to the very top. Hell, he very well may have been the tip of the spear and been apart of the Marine corps forming their OWN special operations; Marsoc (formed in 2008). Prior to this, it was the Force Recon guys (who have both jump and dive badges as shown in the video). Great video nevertheless.
