We stored rice for years in buckets with just salt and Bay leaves. We never had access to oxygen absorbers but our rice stayed fresh and bug free for much longer than two years. The key to keeping bugs away would be the bay leaves. Anyway, here's wishing you and yours a healthy and safe 2023. Sending love to you and your viewers from Barbados 🇧🇧
@@beaqt267 As we poured a portion of rice, we covered it with salt and a few bay leaves until the bucket was full. We then sealed the bucket. When we reopened the bucket we used a measuring cup to take the rice we needed. We rinsed the rice a few times to get rid of any residual salt. I wish that I could tell you why my mom used salt but she's no longer with us. I just grew up seeing it done like that and we never had a problem with bugs. Hope this helps in some way.
Thank you for sharing these tips. I have a lot of respect for the older generations who didn't have the O2 absorbers, mylar, etc., but knew other ways that worked just fine for them.
Got lots of rice. I need to store it better in buckets like you. I'm eating old 2015 cans of Chef Boyardee, Barfaroni! It tastes great! Storing the canned goods at a cool temperature helps..
Was just adding to my long term grains today,... Rice. Mylar 1 gal and 100 lbs of different types of 20 lbs each. 2,750 lbs is my total on rice at this point. Enough for a small army. No stopping, keep going. Happy New Year.
Excellent Tutorial Sunshine, When I upset my mom it was just a Good Old Fashion Butt whooping 😂,And God Forbid if she went to my Father upset that was a whole new level of Whooping but it gave me boundaries and Respect looking back I only got it when I Deserved it and turned out to be a productive Human being 😀👍... Happy New Year!
Happy New Year ... Hopefully we are not headed for the worse but since we prepare we have a chance for the best ❤ Be Safe ... Keep Prepping ..See Ya next year
When I went to get wood, they were running#1 lumber, so I scrounged up enough for more shelves. I got one level done, and I built a small table for the Alexapure Pro water filter and the one burner propane stove. The extra spigot and filter arrived yesterday. And a box of freeze dried strawberries. I got about 80 cans to fit on the shelf, starting another level. I went to the Dollar general to get some 🐈 cat food, used the $5 coupon, everything has went up since I was there last. I used $15 of gas last month. It's going up. I have a small barrel that I need to fill for the generator. I have to get the shelves done. I want to go to get Cherokee Nation food while they still have 🍇 grapes and strawberries. These shelves will hold 300 cans. I'll have them full this week. LOL, I have a can of black eyed peas. I still have a little room under the bed. It was 64 degrees today which helped. I'll go get wood Monday. Most of last week's two loads was too pretty to burn. I probably do need a couple of buckets. I have a propane tank that's almost empty, and I get 5% off on Wednesday at the farm and ranch store. The jug fits under the table that I made. The gas valve is mounted on the table so it only takes one hand. Oh, casual observation, the 🌞 sunshine is still doing the job of power making. It seems like it is hotter than normal. The polar air is coming again in a few weeks. The stew I used to buy has went up 30%. Used to be $2.55, now it's $3.45. I looked but didn't buy. I'm thinking about buying a pan to use on the wood stove, so I can put some rice on, and add to it. Didn't know if it was a good deal... it's $25... I guess I will get it and see. I'm a bit shy on cookware anyways. Since I have so much off grid power, I'm adding a second microwave oven, smaller wattage. I get rice in the one pound bags and put however many I can cram into the bucket. I fixed two like that, and put powdered milk and raw sugar to fill out the bucket. There's no air space in that bucket. Fixing to fill another one. Thanks for the encouragement to keep going. I would have quit and thought I had it all. This new year is going to be bad, the next one maybe worse. So that means I will be needing 3 years worth. I may get there this summer. I have 3 years worth of electric power already. Happy New year. May it be better than the last three or four have been.

Awww what sweet and kind words! There is so much to be thankful for, despite all that we've been through the last couple of years. Happy New Year to you and yours!
May you have Peace and Good Health in 2023. Keep doing what you do, I want you to know that I appreciate your knowledge and help. Stay safe, my Sista from another mista💞
Happy New Year! 🥳💝 Thank you for showing us how you do things. I am restocking and reloading things and definitely have to get some more things prepared.
Thank you for your video. Great advice, .... and I'd be doing it (prepping) while I still can. I'm understanding that Rice will be an issue soon as countries stop exporting and we suffer crop failures ourselves. I'm pretty sure the drought in the US kicked their Rice crop real bad last year. Corn too. Now I'm talking either there being no Rice, or there will be Rice except it's so expensive you can't afford it. "But who eats Rice every day?" Says the girl who eats Potatoes every day. Go figure. You see, we are Potato people and I can only thank god I did enough travelling in the world to understand what a bland menu I was raised on. It's a good thing I like Rice. And Beans, don't forget the Beans. I was chastised by the good Sister about eating the food I already have in the house before getting more, ... so I must be on the right track. lol It's a good thing she doesn't know what in the barn. She'd freak and probably organize an "intervention". God bless her heart. But then again, she's well adjusted to what I perceive to be the insurmountable filth, corruption, and self inflicted retardation in the world, and I'm not. She's "normal" AGGHHH!!!!! And I'm not. May the abundance of the world always be manifest in your life. AND! Good luck.
Happy New Year Everyone! Expect fireworks! Lol. Anyway, I started with putting rice in Mason Jars, then added in mylar bags, then totes and buckets. I guess I like back ups! My semi awake daughter bought me a vacuum sealer so I'll be playing with that next.
Happy New Years Sunshine Fam. May 2023 bring you an abundance of good health and success. It's so hilarious that the prepper vs. nothing will happened mindsets. we are also putting away rice. As I sent you this message, we went to food 4 less early and found good deals on the 25lb. Rice bags, so we stocked up on a few, and my 5 gallon mylar bags came in today as well perfect timing. 2023 mindset stock it, stack it, and reserve.
Happy New Year, my friend! I still can't believe you really are not a CPA. I'm glad you give great tips for dummies like me. It happens, I'm older and you are always attention to detail. 🎉 You are a good soul!
Id advise both but beans are king calorifically...you can sprout and grow them to...they just have more...rice and oats are similar...short term saitiation....ask me how i know...mix lard/fat with both to extend satiation....😊👍
I would like to have the rice put away, I found its hard on my gut when I eat the white rice. I am going to try the brown rice, but I don't think I would be able to eat it all the time. Thank you for the advice, Happy New Year from lower Michigan
Blackened peas for luck, greens for folding money and pork for a phat year. I bought Jasmine rice awhile back and don't care much for it. My fav rice is parboiled rice. Rice keeps for ever if it's dry.
Uline is a massive catalog that has very good prices on things like food storage. It's like a 1000 pg catalog. They sell gamma lids and buckets for about $10 a set. I started 2 gallon and 5 gallon buckets for food storage. I'm just throwing the whole bag in them for now and adding basil. They also have mylar bags and plastic containers. It is a bulk catalog so the more you buy of an item the cheaper the unit price.
Happy New Year to you and your son, Sunshine.🤗🎆🎇 Thanks for the tip on the storage containers. Just ordered 2. The price was incredibly reasonable.👍 Blessings.✝
Sweetie love your videos thank you so much for sharing your videos and again I wish you a very blessed and a very wonderful happy New Year 2023 whatever this year may bring us good luck to us all cuz we sure I need it I hope it's better and it was last year but it could have been worse I just thank God it wasn't but people learning to print now that's a good thing if they just keep it up cuz I don't think we're over this yet but who knows God bless you be safe and again Happy New years
Happy New Year Sunshine !! Thanks for being such an inspiration and positive influence. Hope you and your son and Woofie stay safe and healthy in the new year and always. ❤️
Black-eyed peas and collards? Yuck. That's a long held torture, passed through generations. My mom tries to get me to eat that. I love her, but I'm not even going to sniff it. Yuk.
Hau'oli makahiki hou!! Okay so, I've had an occurance of weebles showing up in stored rice, here in Hawaii. SO, now all rice goes into the freezer for 2 days, out to "dry", for another day and then into storage vat,bay leaf O2 absorber....The store I purchased it from said I could bring it back for refund, but I used it for animal feed.(cooked)..BUT, your video made me look at my supply..ACK, time to re-up!
