StormAudio New 2022 ISP Elite MK3 (8K Pending) with ISP Elite MK2 and ISP Core 16. In this video we explore the new StormAudio ISP Elite MK3 series. While announced as having HDMI 2.1 8K capability, that is a future addition. We also cover the ISP Elite MK2 series and the ISP Core 16 announced at the end of last year.

Thank you Jon, "A THOUSAND TIMES OVER" for doing these... I can tell that you REALLY love it, and you are REALLY, REALLY F'in good at this; so, with as much time, effort and hard work as you put into these, it still looks like you are having fun; so PLEASE, don't stop! Just a quick question on the Storm Audio processor (All iterations).. It is listed as a 192khz processing sampling rate, "got that"... but in the brochure, it says "48khz POST PROCESSING".. What does that mean?? Are they saying the final outcome, "What gets pushed out to the amplifiers, is a down-sampled 48kz sample"?? Thanks again Jon.

You may not actually receive and compare actual products but you bring much value and it is a stroke of genius and probably less headaches. There is no one else on RU-vid doing what you do and for people looking to upgrade or just information on all the devices out there, this is a heaven send. It would be great if you did this with speakers/amps as well. I would love to see all the makers of in-wall theater speakers and all the specifications and options and if the processors and devices you currently cover are dual voltage. I own a lot of Emotive and SVS for that reason alone. For example. Focal makes the 1000 Utopia line of in-walls but also sell enclosures to let you mount them on the wall. As an American (prior Soldier) living in Germany that would be invaluable information if I were looking to one day move back to the US where I could then put them in the wall as I can’t do that now because most German houses are built of concrete unless I built false walls. Thanks for that kind feedback. I go through a rigorous technical study and comparison process when I select products for myself. I decided to start this channel to share my result with others who also appear such care. I like that this forum gives us the ability to learn together and from each other. Speakers and amplifier design technology does not evolve nearly as fast as processors. To address them well, I need to further expand my knowledge. I also feel that bringing them inhouse and having the capability to test scientifically is needed as the printed specifications are hard to depend on. It will take me a will before I am able to offer that level of reviews. I will give the need some thought to see if I can offer come intermediate value without ramping up to the ideal. I appreciate the challenge you have with concrete rooms. -Jon

@@ripewave I completely understand. If you could just add if a processor is dual voltage that would be great. I’m pretty sure most are not and the ones that are like computers are.

Another fantastic breakdown Jon. Thank you. This is an installer's dream....but for owners-- most will be overwhelmed and the law of diminishing returns comes to mind at these prices and speaker layouts. More is not necessarily better (even with triple active crossovers). BTW, is it really 18+ inches wide? That will not work in most standard home theater racks. Hopefully folks will realize this. Keep the great vids coming my friend.

Jack - spent a long time improving the graphic templates I use for these. Also needed to find a way to represent more channels. Always looking for ways to communicate more clearly and professionally. I have been watching videos from luxury integrators recently. They are often replicating side channels for deeper theaters and adding lots of subwoofers. Not sure how often the active crossovers are sold - I suspect mostly for the front stage. I agree that perceptible improvements get harder to realize. I do like the flexibility these processor deliver even if you are not adding channels.-Jon

Great question. I will attempt here: Decoding - the capability to extract the channel information as provided within the source material Processing - the number of channels a processor is able to independently produce an output for. This can differ from decoding as with up-mixing (7.1 content to 7.1.4 output) or more replicated channels as with subwoofers (LFE channel to 2+ independent subwoofer outputs) or side surrounds (replicated to 2 or more rows). It’s interesting that it’s both super expensive, and also devoid of many low end features. No 4k 120hz, no Airplay, the premium is really all in the processing. It seems like it leverages being one of the few options for high channel density and customization. It feels more like industrial machinery. And to be fair this is a custom install class product. Whats weird to me is that theres no RCA inputs, essentially limiting your home theater from playing any legacy media pre-HDMi, it’s weird to have so much customization when it comes to channels, but to have so few options when it comes to inputs, perhaps they could release another product which focuses on legacy inputs which can connect to the channel processor over HDMi. Otherwise the customer does what? Buy another processor from another brand just to get switching? Plug their N64 into their projector and use eARC? Pretty cool it has Auro heritage, I’m curious can it be configured to do 7 base layer + 7 height layer + voice of god? It looked like some models were limited to 5 height, am I mistaken?

Storm and Trinnov are the kings of processor with the amount of things you're able to do and up to 48 channels the Trinnov. But if you have $$$$$ because at that level of processing, you need to hire a professional calibrator for alot of subwoofers and 24, 32, 48 channels.....outch

I agree - when you have that level of complexity, having experts come in becomes a necessity. Once you cross the line, the money flows fast. If Storm doesn't go far enough for your application, Trinnov the additional capability to expand past 32 channels. -Jon

Okay, so here's a question. Since StormAudio ISP Elite MK3 has support for multiple theaters, if I do go with a 32-channel model, can I have theater 2 linked to HDMI 2 Out? Theater 1 will have channels 1 through 13 (FR, FC, FR, RR, RBR, RBL, RL, SUB1, SUB2, FHL, FHR, RHR, RHL) while theater 2 will have channels 17 to 25 (FL, FC, FR, RR, RBR, RBL, RL, SUB1, SUB2). That way, Theater 1 will be assigned to a dedicated theater room and theater 2 will be assigned to my home office/gaming/recording studio room. HDMI 1 out will go to a projector in a dedicated theater room and HDMI 2 out will go to my PC monitor. Know what? I'm a home theater enthusiast and I do not mind complexity. If I do have the money for the StormAudio ISP Elite MK3, I would love to play with this beastie myself. Perhaps it would be cool if StormAudio could put up a web demo of StormAudio ISP Elite MK3. Now that would be cool to play with and get to know how all this works! 😍

When is 48gbps hdmi chipset coming for this processor and how much is the 24 and 32 channel processors

Good question - I have yet to see any processor on the market support 48Gbps. None are supporting the maximum HDMI 2.1 speed. I don’t have exact pricing 24 channel about $18,000 32 channel starts at $22,000

Will there be any chance we can see freesync premium pro support into the HDMI chipset since it's open source?

I guess there is a chance. HDMI chipsets have been real problematic. The challenge has been the chips are developed and implemented into products before formal tests are available resulting in variations in interpretation and incompatibilities between brands. The HDMI org that governs the standard has not managed things very well. At this point I believe that most consumers are happy to see stability setting in after five years our working out issues since the HDMI 2.1 standard was first announced. As such many are hesitant to ask for changes. Of course I would rather see advancement. It just needs to be done more responsibly. -Jon

You would think at this price point they would at least support Josh.ai natively. Who else is that voice control built for other than the people that can afford this type of device?

At this level the general assumption is that voice control will be manage using a separate integration platform such as Control4 to allow Storm to focus on the core features of the processor. Control4 fully support Josh.ai www.josh.ai/control4

@@ripewave I have control4 but if there is no Josh.Ai driver then there is a lot of programming that has to be done as opposed if it was natively supported. And Josh.ai is like 15k by itself. I guess my issue is who is Josh.ai for? Marantz supports it but how many people are going to pay 5k for the AV8805a and then 15k for Josh.ai? I guess in my mind it’s like processors at this price point not supporting Control4 or Savant.

I guess I need to read up on the Control4 / Josh.ai partnership details - not just the headline. Good feedback on that not really being active in Control4. I suppose they have an integration of some sort. I believe Denon/Marantz support some affordable models so I wonder why Control4 can’t do at least as good.-Jon
