We are a multigenerational sailing channel with 2 boats and 1 collective dream of crossing oceans.
Meet Mick, Kate and their 2 boys Thomas and Bentley aboard Meraki a Stan Huntingford Explorer 45. An Aussie/Canadian family who dreamed of living life differently and took the leap into sailing life during COVID and have never looked back. Sailing from beautiful BC, Canada down to Mexico and then across the Pacific, through the South Pacific islands onwards to Australia and BEYOND!
You'll also get to know Kevin and Shawna (parents to Kate) aboard M2 a TransPac 49'. They've had had a lifelong dream to sail the world and are currently in the Caribbean with big plans to transit the Panama Canal very soon!
While the original goal was to be visiting anchorages together, life had different plans. With one boat being purchased in the Pacific NorthWest and the other acquired in the Caribbean we've been waiting out Hurricane season in separate Oceans.. but the reunion is going to be OH, SO, SWEET!

This episode reminded us of a Cesare Pavese quote, “Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things: air, sleep, dreams, sea, the sky - all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.” You are so lucky to have your parents along for the adventures, you’re all living life to the fullest! ♥️

I love that I recognized Happy Days on the radio, not so much of the situation that caused it. So great that our two favorite sailing families are hanging out!

Wow, it's good to see our old boat (S/V Something Special) in the same places we were at in 1996. Helped some locals to retrieve the black pearls that had fallen off the oyster strings in the lagoon. In return, they gave us about 60 pearls various shape and size. Keeping some very fond memories. H.Perk

2 things. First, I am blunt and open so, apple cider vinegar and water applied to a clean face and left to dry will clear up most acne. Second, ask the boys, Why do you fall in the water backward when going snorkeling or scuba diving? Then answer, Because if you fell forward you'd still be in the boat :P Thanks again for the amazing shows you guys!

It's alwyas so crazy to get updates in real time and then SEE it happen awhile later in these videos like when M2 broke off 😬 we sure know how scary being hit is, as you witnessed! But you had the added fear of it being in the dark, in a storm, and worrying about your parents too! You did amazing as always ❤

What a storm....and you kept it all together. And after moving anchorages...the boys dove the anchor. Wow....when you left Sidney BC...did you ever think that would be a thing? They have taken to sailing life like the champs they are. Great video...brings reality closer to the screen.

Crazy storm you did awesome dealing with it. I wonder how the islanders deal with such storms or worst in their little wood houses as I wouldn't think they would be so strong? Hope your mum and dad were fine and that you got that bit repaired that you taped to stop leaking getting under the wood see you later next video

The allure and the danger of the Earth's exotic places on display, a thrilling episode. Such gorgeous coves and beaches, those cute crabs look perfectly at home. Loved the pigs, the Napoleon. Then the lingering storm invites itself in quicker than expected... On the edge of our seats, parents in trouble! Another sort of thrill for me was suddenly realizing that the gallant Happy Days crew (Sailing with Six channel) was on the scene also, offering assistance. Would love to see you meet with them, in better weather. Great job by Kevin and Shawna... I won't spoil the suspense.

Wait till you reach south east asia. Storms like this to 50 knots twice a week. May through december. No joke. I know of 20 boats with catastrofic lightning strikes the past 15 years here and many of total losses.

Those mooring balls... How do you know when to trust them? I've seen several boats now that broke their mooring. Your chain floats... Warren on WE Sail uses carbineers to attach the float ropes to his chain. Quicker attachment and release than knots.

Honestly.. we’re at the point where we won’t trust them in any kind of weather. Unless there is some kind of guarantee they are maintained regularly.

@@CruisingMerakiI'm not a cruiser... wish that I was! But I give many things some thought. I know that it is not always practical. But when you HAVE TO take a mooring ball, would it not be prudent to have your own line and dive down and connect it? Loop it so that you just have to disconnect from your deck and then pull the running end down and back up again? I see many people dive on their anchors to MAKE SURE! I haven't gathered whether either of you SCUBA dive. THAT is one thing that I would absolutely do if I was cruising. I am a diver so that is something that would draw me to the world of cruising anyway. Doing a quick dive to 20 meters isn't that tough and the time and effort to do so would be the insurance that you aren't going to break your mooring. "The Sailing Family", Seth and Elizabeth and boys (retired YT's now) had their mooring break in... Tahiti somewhere I think. They were REQUIRED to use a mooring ball. The line snapped and they weren't aboard. Insurance DID pay for the damage but the mooring "company" wouldn't touch them. I know that there are "risks" that you must take, but such as the above could be mitigated by having your own WELL TRUSTED mooring line.

Meraki 2 is a tough girl (and has a higher freeboard than Meraki 1), a little damage to their dinghy outboard prop but other than that a-ok. We were SO lucky.
