Spartan race really helped me take control of my life after recovering from being paralyzed.. I can now run a mile in 4 minutes and I can do many things I never thought would be possible. Like he said, you dont remember the times you were sitting on the couch.. you remember that 80 mile race for life.
This is awesome. Joe was definitely one of the most impressive characters in our documentary about the "Rise of the Sufferfests." Great to see you zoom in on him like this. Great work.
A Rock Hall documentry would be awesome. They're in the middle of the 2019 induction process. Would be cool to see that process documented in HubSpot Style.
Joe and the Spartan Race have helped me develop skills that not allowed me to get over the obstacles of the race, but will help me conquer the challenges of life.
Very inspiring story. Should be shared with HS students since many are so confused as to what they are going to do in the future. Well-made video. The right amount of content to tell the story without taking too long to lose the audience.
Great video. Love the long term commitment to vision Joe has. Reminds me of Steven Pressfield's books - he would make a great video btw, and a natural follow on to Joe as he "wrote the book" on Spartans, so to speak (Gates of Fire). More videos about self-funded or non-traditional-VC companies would be cool. Basecamp, Grammarly, Cards Against Humanity, folks like that.
Ideas on the next one: 1. Camp Harbor View is an amazing charity that is about to buy HubSpot. Its founder (Jack Conners) did a HubTalk a few weeks back -- you can track down the recording. 2. Another one is Mass Challenge -- their founder came into HubSpot a couple months back and did a Hubtalk that you can track down, but not sure if they use HubSpot or not. 3. Zildjian is the world's oldest company and its HQ is in Boston -- they make symbols that all the best drummers use and make them locally...very cool company that is a HubSpot customer. 4. Ask Dave Salvo (HubSpotter) who else might be good...
I agree with Brian, Camp Harbor View would be an awesome one! You should also consider Enjoy Life Education (founded by Evren Gunduz) as he's doing incredible work inspiring adolescents to live their life to the fullest- very relevant to what Joe was talking about towards the end
That was inspiring, I can't wait to see the rest of this series, Spartan is my fountain of youth! And Joe, if you're reading these, thank you on behalf of us Spartan Baby Boomers! And another thing Joe, I think our paths are meant to cross someday, my daughter works for HubSpot (she just ran Fenway) and I'm the guy who introduced Harpreet and Sarah from OURA to Spartan OCR. Great job HubSpot, say hello to my kid, she's a rising star!

"Well, I mean a lot of people say 'Joe, stop and smell the roses', my response to that is 'Well who the f*ck waters them, trims them and fertilizes them? There's a reason the roses smell- you gotta do the work." WOW. That struck a chord.
i had a great time sitting on the couch, eating ice cream, playing guitar, watching movies. not sure why i'd look back and be glad i was out there oxidizing my system with all that unnecessary activity
