I enjoy your review and couldn't find other Story of Seasons (2014) reviews. What I really hope for is an improved Switch version of this game in the future on things like earning money and shipping things. I like how you mention the con of the fishing festival and how finding a good fishing location is based on luck to catch fish. Not a fan of the Nature sprites either, though I kind of like when they have a bit of dialogue about the wedding bell when the player gets married. And I really think there are complaints from other players of this particular game that the makers are just not as necessary for Story of Seasons (2014).
I've just realised that not only does the art style of this game look identical to A New Beginning, but the boy and girl farmer that you play as look really similar to the boy and girl child you have in A New Beginning.
hello from 5 years in the future!! I hadn't realized it until reading this, but the children in THIS SoS are similar to the MCs in Trio of Towns as well!! Must be a running theme
This one was a struggle for me to connect too. Once Trio of Towns came in, that has swept me away! And I haven’t returned to this game. Thank you for the great review, one day I will give this one a shot.
I disagree with most of your bad category picks. Early on you have to prove yourself to one trader so that they tell others about you. That is a very smart design in my opinion. Tvs and such are a luxury and that is why those take awhile to get as a TV is not a necessity to survive. I agree with the fishing pick, yet it is an optional quest that I won't have a problem with. I really love everything about this game like the stamina bar. It takes a while just to get your farm area up and running due to rocks. That reminds me of Minecraft were my house took ages to build, yet when I did, it was that much more rewarding.
That's fair enough. I am acting a little spoilt there needing to save scum. Nonetheless I thoroughly enjoyed the game and I can't wait to cover Trio of Towns when it comes out.
I ignore the harvest sprites as they were always a hinderance to me. But then, I started with the original in the SNES where it was just you doing all the work. I like this one, as it teaches real world time and money management skills in a fun way. My preteen mentioned that much. Personally, I hated all the games that required you to use the harvest sprites help to advance.
I really love Story of Seasons. I'm currently playing it and as much as I hate how hard it is to get certain materials for creating things, but that does add a level of challenge I enjoy :)
I'm glad I found this review. I wanted a simple overview of the game's mechanics, and you managed to sum it up beautifully just in time for me to click the add to cart button, checkout and move on with my night.
I must admit I enjoy Story of Seasons a lot. While it's not my favorite, that goes to Magical Melody, it is up there. Ignoring a lot of the new features, it has some things I recognized from older game that made me squeal. Hand motions from Magical Melody, Menu option sounds from A Wonderful Lfe and Another Winderful Life, and a couple characters from a past game. The first I met being Kamil from Tale of Two Towns. All in all this game really is something I'd expect from one of my favorite game series and I hope the next one will be just as good. Yes I do notice some problems, like massive frame rate drop if there's a lot of people in one area or to much stuff decorating the town or even to many pick up items on the ground. I agree with your star rating for the most part but, being a bit biased towards a series that's occupied my life since I was very young, I would end up giving it 4.5 stars. But I love how you're a fair reviewer... I'm gonna subscribe. Heehee =3
6:56 Let me marry Pepita!!! (Kappa face) To be honest the character sprites in the game doesn't matter as long as you get some pretty anime style portrait during dialogues Rune Factory games style. (They seem to be animated in this game which is a huge bonus) Look at Rune Factory 3 and 4 you can barely see what the character look like in game, but when you speak to them you see how pretty they actually are. Other Harvest Moon game such as AP and ToT and AWL doesn't need anime style portrait since the in game sprites look decent enough, to me at least. This is why I was never able to get into the original Harvest Moon back then until the N64 version came out.
Boy do I miss the days of Harvest Moon 64. Talk about substance. They wisely limited your choices in spouses so the could create deep stories for each of them and the towns people. There were so many events that each morning you heard that knock on the door, you got so excited. The game didn't go all uuber cutsey and become about collecting animals and accessorizing and fashion. It was an adult game that dealt with real life issues. Karen was an Alcoholic, her family life was broken. Elli's overweight and her grandmother dies right in front of her, the next day shes a wreck, you can get a divorce, you even get to see your wife in labor from the obvious shacking up you gave her. Now....now it's this cheap little fashion game for young girls. Just cutsey fluff and paper thin characters. It's such a shame. You know, even as far back as Magical Melody, the most depth I ever got out of the girl I pursued was once she gave me a sandwich and we had one date at a river or lake that lasted 1 minute. The very day after I married her, she said the EXACT.SAME.THING shed been saying to me the whole month before and I quit the game right then and there.
Well what about Maria? She doesnt have overly 'adult' issues. But I do agree SoS was overly cute. So many times I questioned my masculinity while playing. Most of the spouses were subpar too except for Angela (although I assume most people would go for Iris which I can understand
Guy From Mt. Erebus Maria was socially vulnerable. She was shy and hard to reach, she didn't know how to conduct herself or her emotions with you. see, with just a couple of spouse choices, they can tell deep narratives worth investing your time in. But now they cater to young girls, and offer an excess of options at the cost of depth or story telling, appealing towards a completely different audience then that which made HM 64 so successful. It's for girls go collect and accessorize and decorate. It's at this point, a zynga game.
FuzzleLand Id honestly have to agree with you. I never played 64. But I have played a few others. Wonderful Life, Hero of Leaf Valley. Im not sure what it is but I loved those two. I thought the characters in those felt original and I liked that themselves and the towns folk actually felt like they knew eachother. I know Hero of leaf valley isn't often mentions but it has a lot of depth. Multiple ways to beat the game including even swooning and marrying the main antagonist in the game. I remember having such a difficult time decided who I wanted to marry for in that game cuz they all felt real! I couldnt stand story of seasons for more than a few hours. I've played Rune Factory 4 and its actually quite fun. Much more "mature" story lines and characters.
Colby Saintjames Rune Factory was good, but it was a jack of all trades and a master of none. Frontier was the best, but it ruined itself with an aggressively unforgiving runey system. I had printed out stacks of papers to keep track of that game, it was absurd.
your reviews are awesome, you just got a new subscriber, I'm shocked by the amount of subscribers you have......you do quality work, keep up like that!
I am a huge Fan of this game, however It wasn't always like that. I was familiar with the Harvest moon game, and wanted to give S.O.S a try so I bought it, at the beginning I kinda didn't liked it, I don't really know why, I kept playing anyway, soon I realized it isn't even that bad, now I cant stop playing lol XD But I heard they made another game called ,story of seasons, trio of towns. I also bought that game, and again I think the game before is much better, I rly hope that changes with time haha
I remember back in Harvest Moon DS when you actually needed some skill to plant your crops and you could make your farm really big and awesome. But that's been buried in time along with blockbusters...
Blockbuster and other video rental stores are now a thing of the past :^) On a more serious note, in the original Harvest Moon, you had to toil with having a huge farm while only carrying two tools at any one time and for a while, only being able to carry crops one at a time. Maintaining that certainly required a lot of skill, dedication and effort.
Good review, I was mildly interested in this franchse as I only own 1 game and I have not had a chance to play it. Anyways, I wanted to ask if the music after 4:04 is in-game music? It sounds cool.
4:05 yep, that's the major issue that I had with this game. After playing 10 hours or so, I just gave up. At some point, you just wait and wait until the merchant shows up. After watching your review, I'll give the game a second chance and be more patient until more merchants show up. But gosh this is annoying.
I only just learned that story of seasons is the new name of the real harvest Moon series. That explains why The latest harvest Moon branded games don't even have a fraction of the quality of the previous titles.
To anyone wondering if this game is worth your time, ask yourself are you willing to pour in 100 hours in (like the guy in the vid)? Cuz everything is just a waiting game for a very long time and it's not very stimulating. You will have stuff to do, for sure, but that's mostly cuz there is no way to do things faster. Not for a very long time. p.s. - the tutorial took me about 90 mins to complete how's that as evidence this is a waiting game haha
I was really hyped up to the release of the game. I'm sorely disappointed that it has yet another long tutorial and lacking some of the things from past Harvest Moon games. The last best Harvest Moon game is still Friends of Mineral Town.
AnimeGirl4891 silk country sells the blue print it's called the sewing studio and after you buy it you can buy blue prints for different outfits but it comes with several of it's own
i dont mind if i have to play any future harvest moon/story of season with the graphics from harvest moon friends of mineral town. cuz to me, the gameplay feels unhindered and fast enough. i dont really mind if marvelous add the stuff that u need to unlock like alpacas in hmttott, but i really hope that they make the improvement on the animation (remove the unnecessary animations) cuz i swear watching my character picking up rocks from the ground takes like half a second and that annoys me. in hmfomt i dont have this unhindered feeling and actually enjoyed it but starting with the NDS series it gets worsen. the only game that i enjoyed on the nds is hmgb and hmttott. looking the gameplay on 3ds doesn't rekindle my enjoyment of playing the games anymore...which is sad :'( hope story of season series gets better in the future
9:21 I love your accent lol : "The game may start a bit slow but if you spend the time it'll reward you for the hard work you've done by making the experience bitter" I watched your review before buying and the game didn't disappoint. If anything the one thing that I kinda dislike a bit is the fact that 1 second realtime is 1 minute in the game. That leaves you about 16-18 minutes per day, which is completely fine when you only own your own farm and maybe a few lands, but not when you own and maintain the entire map. Feel like I'm rushing my butt off to cover everything on a single day. This is my first farming simulation game however... maybe its normal.. ? Another good thing to add for people still watching this, is that the ONLY thing seedling mode does is affect the price and requirements to unlock things. The game has many features that only get unlocked after an amount of playtime, and this is the same for both modes. This is why I do not 'fully' understand the original complaints of original mode causing an update called 'seedling'. Not to mention the fact that you can get more out of the game with original mode, because when a game stops providing challenge, it's game over. Everyone their own preferences I guess. Anyhoo, nice review man. =) I'm European so hence the timing. Like this game before, Trio of Towns still doesn't have a European release date... so this is gonna have to do... and thusfar I'm really enjoying it. P.S. Iris huh... good choice ;)
I didnt like this game as much because of that obnoxious frame rate that was mostly on the digital copies of the game. It made me cringe everytime I rode my horse down that one road by the river and I always wondered why it lagged so bad because it wasn't that content heavy of an area...
+GAMEBUDS Yes, you can get married and have children. I would personally prefer Story of Seasons over A New Beginning but it's pretty close competition.
Soleil Lebel The rating usually don't mean anything. By this point after seeing The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, you should have an idea of whether the game is for you or not. Rating is normally irrelevant by the time I get to it since I'll say whether it's worth getting or not by then. At least, that's how I approach it.
I was so excited to get this game but after one season, I gave up. It’s so boring. And I don’t like the 3D look at least when it comes to the characters. When my character runs, it just looks so weird. But the animals look cute as always!
Daily sims are hard for me to get into; the only one I've tried is Animal Crossing and though I like it, it's hard to come back to frequently. Cool review though, like the overlay and dual screen stuff.
Yeah, I just lose interest quickly but to its credit, that's my second most played game on the 3DS. Problem is I spent half that time plucking weeds and selling fruit! Your Fantasy Life review on the other hand really sold me so that's on my eventual "to buy" list.
Well that's neat but it's still a commitment and one I'm not sure I would want to make. Personally, I have to be in a certain mood something like pure exhaustion to fully enjoy a game of this genre.
does anybody know a game similar to harvest moon and rune factory where a girl and a guy share the sam body (or something like that) and they're best friends and i think the girl has pink hair. you have an option to marry her. anybody know the name?
I prefer trio of towns because of the shipping bin. In story of seasons you have to rely on the trading Depot and you have to wait at least a week before you can ship your produce.
Is it bad that I got *T R I G G E R E D* at the start when he said Veronica was the mayor? Because it clearly says all the time in the game she's the guild master. I'm not compliatin' (Complaining and hatin') but it just annoys me for some reason
"Save scumming isn't just restricted to mining and foraging points. The Fishing Festival is a very notorious festival to win without it as well. " Saving and reloading to get what you want.
