I can identify with Ford. I prefer to give other people things they can use/help them, not simply pretty things (e.g. cut flowers), which they can display. If I were to be given a gift, it better be something I can use or something which contributes to my hobby (e.g. a potted plant for gardening, not cut flowers).
I'm sort of both. I love giving people gifts that I know they will like or use, but occasionally I like to pick a bouquet of wild flowers for the people I'm closest to.
