Hello Allysa: Like you, I am 27 years old. I got my bachelor's degree in Economics about 3yrs ago. Recently, I decided to go to pharmacy school, so I am taking my prerequisites. I will probably get into pharmacy school when I am about 29. However, I am married, and I have 2 kids. I agree with you that age doesn't matter because in the long run, it will worth. All the same, I am happy to hear your story. Congratulations. I wish you the best in your journey.
Congratulations on your decision to go back to school!!! I love hearing from all the non-traditional students like myself; we're all in this together! Best of luck!!!
Where are you getting your pre requisites a community college? I have a bachelors in family studies and i need to take a biology and a chemistry class. But i dont know if i need another degree or just take them as a non degree student. I wish I took biology and and chemistry as an undergrad but i took human physiology.
your story is very inspirational even though i watched it after a year. You're probably 2nd year in pharmacy school by now. i wish you success. Best of luck!!
When you took your pre reqs for pharmacy school at the commuity college. Did you get a degree afterwards like an Accosiates? I already have a bachelors degree in family studies but imay need to take biology and chemistry but idk if its considered a degree of not after you take it. K hope my question makes sense.
By hearing your story I can relate myself too,,,,, I am still undecided what career should I pursue, however you did not mention what makes you decide to pursue a pharmacy as your career choice. It would be helpful if you elaborate on this. If you do not mind can you please share which pharmacy school you are attending. Thanks
Unless you are positive you want to be a pharmacist, stay away. www.pharmacytimes.com/contributor/jason-poquette/2016/03/steep-drop-seen-in-pharmacist-job-market-indicator www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/pharmacists.htm#tab-6 Look into Medical Laboratory Scientist instead. www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/medical-and-clinical-laboratory-technologists-and-technicians.htm
Guys! Unless you are certain, and I mean certain you want to become a pharmacist, don't do it! Pharmacy is saturated in the U.S. Look at the BLS statistics! There is an increase of pharmacy schools in the U.S. This has created intense competition for pharmacy jobs! Pharmacy school is expensive too. Do your research. Look into the work conditions of retail pharmacists. Heck, become a pharmacy tech BEFORE you go to pharmacy school. You might hate working at the pharmacy at CVS. Heck, my state had to pass a law that says that pharmacy employees must be able to have a LUNCH break if they work over 6 hours, use the RESTROOM every four hours and that pharmacist could not work more than 12 hours. I know that pharmacists don't HAVE to work in retail, but industry and hospital positions are competitive. Most of the jobs are in retail. Know what you are getting into before you take out 150K in student loans.
Stop! Before you go to pharmacy school read this. www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/pharmacists.htm#tab-6 From the BLS The number of pharmacy schools has grown in recent years, creating more pharmacy school graduates and therefore more competition for jobs. Students who choose to complete a residency program gain additional experience that may improve their job prospects. Certification from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties or as a Certified Diabetes Educator also may be viewed favorably by employers. Become a pharmacy tech first to see if you REALLY want to do it. Most jobs are in retail still, so you should figure out if you like that environment. Pharmacy Technician www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/pharmacy-technicians.htm
Are you asking what you should major in? It honestly doesn't matter, as long as you are meeting the prerequisites for pharmacy school admission. Most people major in chemistry or biology, but you definitely do not have to. Just make sure you are taking the general requirements of the schools that you want to get in to, and if those fit into your major, great! If not, just fit them in your schedule with your other classes.
Catastrophe Swift when you finish pharmacy school and actually work at a pharmacy there is just basic math. When you are in there is a defenitly a lot of math
