It's so cool to see someone in genuine awe, we really take today's technology for granted. My mam often makes the Star Trek comparison. :) In a lot of ways though, I envy my parents generation and wish I grew up in a simpler time. When they were growing up, there were still fields in the suburbs that are now so built up, and kids were given so much freedom. I see some children nowadays practically being raised by the internet and social media, and it's damaging to their social skills and empathy... Not saying I'd swap places, I enjoy having toilet paper 😂 There are pros and cons to every era.

I'm 38 also and seen gaming go from Pong with it's couple of sprites on the screen to how it is now, I remember Getting my first gaming PC which was top of the line at the time a 486 DX2 66 Mhz with 8MB ram a 2MB cirrus logic Graphics card, a sounblaster 16 sound card and a 2x speed CD Rom drive, to play games on CD's that had full Speech when characters talked etc was just amazing to me back then, also I remember the internet when it was just IRC & newsgroups / bulletin boards now look at it

back in my day, we had to walk 20 miles to school, in the rain, with no shoes, uphill, carrying a 50lb backpack, whilst hauling a 30 ton tank, with no guarantee of making it back home. and back then, when we got home, we had to use our HANDS to open the door, and if the door wasn't open, it meant that it was LOCKED. whenever it was locked, we had to use a small, metal, jagged object known, as a key. keys were also used for starting cars. of course now, we have flying barrels with wings. -Grandpa

I am 15, and I very much do realize what age and day we live in. Sometimes it takes just stepping back for a moment and realizing that we have advanced so much from where we were 30 years ago, or even 20 years ago. It astounds me sometimes that people can be so ignorant to say that we have not advanced, nor have we creatively pushed our bounds. But sometimes other than looking at all of this amazing stuff we have now, I enjoy going back and playing games before my time, etc. Truly amazing.

Every year the new tech blows my mind. I never thought 20 years ago i could watch anything over phone lines and now wireless . and Now i can do 80% of the stuff on my phone as i do on the desktop. its crazy.

It has occurred to me a few times just how incredible the world is today. I'm sitting here, in my room recovering from surgery, and while I do, I watch a guy on the other side of the world talk about stuff. I was born in '94, so I grew up playing games like Crash Bandicoot, which absolutely blew my mind, it let me do things that I'd never even considered as a possibility! Now it's so standard to just be able to control an avatar in a 3d environment, I really can't wait to see what comes next!

Honestly, I think this all the time. I'm 21, but I'm still amazed by everything these days. Cars in particular are amazing. Some of the cars coming out now look like nothing I could have imagined. I was just sitting in class today looking at my phone and thinking about how amazing that technology is. Even though I'm younger, I still remember when no one in my family had a cell phone. And when a portable game console, with a grayscale non-backlight screen was mind-blowing technology.

I'm only 21 and I remember when we got a Atari (not sure model) and playing Pong, then we got the NES and wow that was hours and hours of fun. Kids these days who complain if there is a small lag in a online game would never know what to do with a AOL dial-up connection where you had to wait a few seconds just for a simple page to load. technology truly is amazing of how far it's come in only the last 15 years.

Great video boogie! I talk about this stuff with my dad all the time. Im still in high school so people complain about technology and not having the best item, but even my iPhone 3 is still beyond my imagining as a child. Playing an app like Curiosity that is so simple is still so much fun just because i think of what it was like before the iPod Touch and the iPhone. It truly is amazing how we can control a world of information by touching some piece of smart glass.

I actually think about things like this often. Most people don't, so it's probably odd to think of a 16 year old thinking about this, but I mean we live in a time where you can do anything. You can learn anything. If you wanna learn magic tricks, a few clicks of a keyboard and you're learning it. It's just amazing to think that say like 200 years ago, people had to learn from other people, or from books, or just flat out not learn at all. It's crazy if you seriously think about this time.

Not much older than me, I'm 30. I remember hookin up the Atari 2600 and playing pong and thinking it was the best damn thing in the entire world, gleefully listening to beeps and boops. Phones to, remember rotary? Fuck up one number and have to dial the whole thing again. Or when they'd start to die the ring would not stop, it'd just be a constant ringing noise from your phone causing you to run to it even quicker. And now that I'm a little older, I appreciate peace n quiet, more than anything.

I remember going to my Grandma's to use her VCR to tape Robotech. I had to show her how to use the timer and have it tape the show for me. We had just gotten cable, but still no VCR or microwave. Those tapes cost me a lot of my allowance to buy. I remember them being very expensive or maybe my allowance was small. Those VCR tapes of Robotech fell apart in the early 2000's. The first cell phone I got came with an antenna that attached to my car to help it get a signal.

I grew up playing wolfenstein 3d on an IBM 5150 PC (xt series if i remember rightly) running dos 3.0, it was magnificant. 128 kbits of memory with a 4.7 Mhz processor. It is amazing how quickly technology advances, at the time i couldn't imagine sitting typing onto a website after watching a video from someone on the other side of the globe .

SLI performance has drastically improved with the 7000 and 600 series from AMD and Nvidia, respectively. It doesn't scale to 100%, but it scales to around 80-90% with some games. It depends on your resolution and CPU, respectively. Is it worth it? Depends, If you're already thinking about building a high-end gaming rig, an extra $350 to get more oomph in games where you would want it. Looking around online it looks like Far Cry 3 benefits from SLI/CF setups. And pretty good scaling too.

Although I'm young (15); even I've seen a MASSIVE change. I remember when I thought the PS2 and Xbox were powerful systems and seeing the graphics and thinking they're realistic. And now we have machines which are (PS4) many times more powerful. From big box TVs to ultra-thin HD plasmas and LCDs. Slow internet speeds where RU-vid in 2005/2006 would take a while to load a vid at 240p to 1080p videos being instant on full screen. I can't imagine how a 37 year old views this.

Editing to and from back and forth to SSD is suboptimal infact, due to the fact that the circuitry inside a SSD is adapted toward a certain number of writes and reads, at some point they start degrading. My studio use mechnical drives, 4x3TB one's to edit onto, this is to preserve the RAW filesizes, and with 4x drives in raid 0, you attain high speeds any which way. SSD is great as a middle-medium for storage however, I just wouldn't use it for editing on, wont last us 3 months.

One thing I'd really like to see, is when you are explaining stuff such as graphics of games, maybe have a picture pop up of the graphics because some of us haven't experienced some of the older games and can relate to exactly what you are saying. I was just thinking about what you said in your comment the other day. I'm only 24 and I remember when there were no cell phones and you had to find a pay phone to make a call or a 14.4kbps internet connection when the internet was new. The older generations always lament how our generation doesn't know how to use a rotary phone or a record player, but I think the gap within our generation on how we experience modern change in communication, social networking, and tech is much more profound.

Also, although I didn't really ever go to a lot. LAN parties were still a big thing when I got into xbox gaming. Halo 2 used to be the only thing to play online, now there are hundreds of titles to play online. Nothing is and ever will be as good as halo 2 online though :(. Nothing cannot top that feeling of what it was like when everyone was still figuring out how to compete with other people and adapt to different playing styles. Now everything is so predictable its not even fun sometimes.

I live in a world where I have bought over 10 games that I haven't played. Usually I would have 1-5 games and play 1 at a time or rarely 2 or 3. Nowadays it's more like stockpiling and playing whatever fits, while leaving some behind. Money goes easy, but earlier in my life money was conserved. Things have changed alot.

I didn't have cable until I was 16. We had one of those huge antennas on our house until a storm ripped it off the roof. It really is amazing how TV technology has changed, though. I'm spoiled by progressive scan; gaming on 480i or 1080i makes my eyes hurt now. Ironically, I use CRT computer monitors for HD gaming. Some of those old things can actually handle 1080p. Hey Boogie, I am a huge fan, and I don't want to undermine your videos, but flying cars are most definitely a possibility in the next 100 years. A buddy of mine is actually starting a company that is working towards just that. The key is to take the human element out of the loop. Autopilots have just a few kinks to work out before they are better than human pilots (they are already better at takeoff and cruise). Avidyne is an interesting company working on these advanced autopilots.

I'm 37 and my Dad died in 1991. I often wonder what he would make of things now. I bought the Indiana Jones box set on dvd a few days ago and watching it, I had a sudden flashback of watching it with my Dad on a Betamax video and using a remote control linked by a 20ft cable to repeatedly rewind and watch the part where Mary punches Indy and thinking it was miraculous.. Rewinding a film!! Laughing so hard as the punch goes backwards and then swings forward again.

Boogie.. please. I love you, Thanks for making everything wonderful in my life. Every single time I watch your videos I learn something, take something away from it , and grow from it. I'm 22, I'm trying my best at this world and feel like I'm failing, but watching you succeed is the best thing I can hope for. :)

Thank you for making me feel old, and I'm only 22 XD. I grew up playing the genesis, N64, ps1 and PC. The internet was still pretty brand new when we first got it. I still remember that awful sound of Dial Up. I used to think doom had the most amazing graphics when I first played it. Now I look back and shake my head lol. When I first heard about the ps2 coming out, I about shit myself. I couldn't wait to play GTA III when it had these amazing crisp graphics. Now that is all old new haha.

As another long time gamer that started out on the 2600 and arcade games, I have to agree with you Boogie, things have definitely come a long way. I remember our 1st vcr. The thing was like $600 and was huge...complete with wired remote lol. I also grew up in a house with the massive furniture tv. Good story time, takes me back. 40 years old here.

currently i just find confusing the fact that people (a few) still say that black ops II is waay too futuristic. well, it has a few "toys" we dont have yet, but a big part of them u can see working prototypes, or "army only" devices that even looks out of this dimension face to face, but none the less, THEY DO EXIST, and those who doesnt, the key word is: it doesnt exist YET.
