Beautiful work by the master Neal Adams...really amazing and something I am starting to learn more about and appreciate more and more...he's influenced so MANY things we take for granted now in comics...he's worth a deep dive. Please support Neal here:

When I think of classic batman, it's a Neal Adams image in my mind. He's taken the art of storytelling to a whole different level, consistently throughout his whole career. Thanks, Rich! For reminding us all how great he is.

Great review of the book! Loved hearing you talk about the storytelling elements and why they work!

Sadly Adam's insists that the recolored versions are how he wants it, claiming the limitations of the past are eliminated by the wonderful new colors on his work. Ugh

What's fantastic about the whole Neal Adams movement is that for all his postumous glory as an illustrator his Bucky O'Hare action figures are being highly sought after. Long live Neal Adams!

The batman shot you are talking about was done by Bob Kane in the 30s

I'm "the guy" that got the $50 Patreon critique. What I got was worth way more than $50. Invaluable. I can't wait for my next.

Neal's favourite POV was from the bottom. His drawings frequently look like the camera is on the floor pointing up

At 8.00 minins, the original composition is from Bob Kane. Or one of his ghosts.

@@RichardFriendartist can you do Steve Rude? Not your inking style but superb draughtsmanship and storytelling. I love your videos.

Now for me I cannot stand Sienkiewicz but really like Neal Adams and John Buscema. They always had such a flow and way about them and how they did the storytelling. And Neal has influenced so many of the current great artists. Another thing that they seem to do better than most is leave room for the word balloon placement. Thanks for show this, I have not seen this reprint book. Have you picked up the IDW Jim Lee book yet? That is a really awesome art book.

Also. Neal Adams is quite good, but he is heavily influenced by John Buscema. If you look at Neal's inks in Conan and John's you can see his style showing through. It's interesting how influential Buscema was but I don't think many people realize it.

Ha ha ha. I'm the one that asked about picking out blacks. I get it now. I "see the light." Lol! I think, imo, it's more of a confidence issue for me. I dont want to "ruin" my work with black ink. Lol.
