STRAIGHT FLUSH vs. NUT FLUSH!!! How To Know When You're Beat

Sometimes in poker, you've got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, and know when to check/call small bets so as not to arouse suspicion that you can see everyone's hole cards. In this hand, Mike Postle (aka GOD) somehow manages to lose the minimum with an ace-high flush. What a player!

Not necessarily. When someone is playing a level above everyone else in anything it's just natural for the commentary to start to become centered around them. This happens all the time in team sports. The best guy on the court field is going to be talked about more than anyone else. Everyone here has the power of hindsight. In the moment they aren't going to assume a guy is cheating, so naturally they're going to try to rationalize his decisions, and commentate from his perspective.

@ShirazEsat
@ShirazEsat 4 года назад
Pairing, though, is something you often want when you have a nut flush, as you're more likely to get callers on the turn. Also, the fact that the straight was possible on the river, means you're going to get more hero callers.These sort of turn/rivers allow for more value bets, and the odds of being beat are SO low (although in this case, he was beat by the absolute nuts!)
@Inbal_Feuchtwanger
@Inbal_Feuchtwanger 4 года назад
@@ShirazEsat While true, if you remove any possibility of a full house you are left literally putting your opponent on the only possible hand that can beat you. if it isnt all suspicious enough already, there's an extremely damning piece of info you didn't mention. When you have the nut flush here and just flat a 1/3rd pot river bet, don't you just flick in one chip, confidently flip over your hand and look to not slow roll your opponent when you almost always have the best of it? But no, Postle puts in the $140 instead of just flicking in a chip to signify the call (an indication he knows he is beat) and then holds his cards so his opponent can show and he can muck without revealing immediately to the table that he just called on that river with that hand. When you know what people have you absolutely shouldn't play your edges preflop. They could call or shove and then you'd have 60-70% to win a big pot, when you could instead play a lot more hands in small pots and reach rivers, where you'll have 100%, or you'll know that they have a better hand that they are likely to fold to pressure. Variance is a bitch even when you're cheating.

No way he pays off river bet even with nut flush if he already knew guys has straight flush? Was it so it wouldn’t completely give away his cheating so every now and then he as to pay it off even tho he knows he’s beat?

I agree, it is going to be difficult to charge him criminally, especially in California. The casino and the stream will be sued civilly, that does not include jail. The best hope is that the FBI could come in and charge him with some federal fraud type charges for using electronic devices to steal, maybe? Im not a lawyer but I pointed this out before. People are taking him to court, but his win rate, though godly, could technically be possible. It may be in the 1/10,000,000+ range but still, there have been more than 10 million poker players. This would have happened at some point. Maybe a few times. But it's HOW he's won this much and where which is definitely cheating. Stuff like this happening hundreds of times is why this is virtually impossible. You'd need some amazing expert witnesses and no witnesses on postles side to get him in court, or you're gonna have to explain game theory and some of these hands and how ludicrous they are to a jury. Which isn't gonna be easy. Someone else was found to be cheating via stats. I don't know if his case is solid for this though. Mike only played 6k hands. We haven't got anything solid on him - just theories and speculations. Some of the hands joey brings up could work. But yeahh... can lawyers clarify this?

Doug, **Think about it - the commentators are not only "justifying" his plays, they are guiding him throughout their commentary, live!** Just listen to the commentators on hands, and imagine that Postle can hear them as well. They are basically telling him what to do or what cards the opponent has, many times in a hand. Imagine that you were the commentator and you are trying to help your friend playing while commentating, and you will notice that this is what they are doing. Also, It could be that Postle's phone is also recording their commentary, and therefore sometimes he needs to roll back to hear again what his opponents have. That way if someone is looking at his phone it can look like he's listening to music.

What would this RU-vid channel with 7,000 subscribers do without this God? And a single dad though. He lives in Sacramento. So he can't play anywhere else. He is not allowed to move . @balooko31
@balooko31 5 лет назад
Doug, if I remember correctly, the guy who cheated you on online poker installed a trojan virus onto your computer. He could only cheat you when you had your computer open and running, correct? Would it be possible that when Postle and Justin (and other technicians) tested out their Dream Poker Tour, Postle had access to one of their computers? Could he then install a similar virus to watch the stream while they had their computer on? That would explain how one person could hack into a LIVE live stream to watch only while that select individual was logged onto the stream production. They would unknowingly give him full access to the cards while they were working in production. Just a theory, doesn't explain the 86o turning into 98s hand graphics change.

@wave this is just 1 of approximately 20 hands I have seen that he plays very suspicious. If it only happened a couple times no one would be saying anything. It's that he always makes the right decision, which is not possible even for the top pros. It says he won like 65 out of 70 sessions, and the few times he lost certain employees were not there. It's like a murder trial with only circumstantial evidence. There's no body, no murder weapon but still obvious who the murderer is.

john meilleur I thought about this. The other consideration is that there is a fixed cost of cheating - somebody could find the stream relay, see your phone, etc. so you need enough benefit to cover both the marginal costs of cheating each hand, as well as the fixed setup costs. So I initially thought as you did, but after further reflection it’s not as clear to me what the optimal cheating frequency would be. I’d love to see a video on what Postle’s strategy ought to have been.

I don't see a problem with this hand...he could've raised the river but it's not auto-raise imo, especially if you think Villain is tight. There's nothing in it for Doug at all, everyone knows Postle is a cheater. Postle would stand a reasonable chance of beating Doug in a short enough session and then he would say that is evidence he's just good and not cheating. Why give him that kind of opportunity? You'd have to play 100,000 hands against him to show how bad he is without being able to see the opponents cards.
@rg7535
@rg7535 5 лет назад
To be fair, the commentators aren't necessarily in on it. Maybe they've just been suspicious before and brought their suspicions up with their boss (Justin I believe), and were told there was nothing going on and they shouldn't let on that they're suspicious in any way as it could hurt the stream. These people could just be doing their jobs and following their boss' orders without actually being in on it. Kinda looks like that to me when you see the faces of the guys who have to justify calling off your entire stack with 45o, and they could very well still be suspicious and talk among themselves about it, which is probably what led to Vanessa kinda blowing the whistle on the whole thing.
