STRAIGHT FROM THE BIBLE--WHAT DOES "BELIEVE ON JESUS" MEAN TO HAVE ETERNAL SALVATION?

God has given us an amazing picture of salvation in Acts. Salvation has only one Door (Christ) but has many descriptions (these accounts). Every one of us who comes to Christ finds that He does what these accounts describe when He enters our lives.
Each of the 22 different individual portraits of salvation God records for us is the way to eternal life, but all of them are true about the life of everyone going to Heaven. You see, when God saved us He made us new creations, and transformed us into the sons and daughters of God.
Welcome to the Gospel of God, written down for us in Acts. For the opening thirty years of Christ's church, from Christ's Ascension in AD 30 until Paul’s arrival in Rome to await trial in AD 60: God has given us a Divine Summary of the Gospel. Paul, Peter, James, Jude, and John all explain the doctrine surrounding salvation; but the Book of Acts gives the actual words of the actual messages when salvation is offered and received.
In the study of the sharing of the Gospel, there is really nothing more vital than the words we have before us today in Acts. Today we are going to step back and look at the entirety of the history of the Gospel’s spread.
Right almost in the middle of Acts, these most famous words are spoken by the jailer of Philippi to Paul: “What must I do to be saved?”
The answer can be found in the sum of all the parts as well as in the simple response of Paul in Acts 16:31: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.” Salvation is both simple and profound. It is impossible yet so constantly effective. Salvation can be perplexing, confusing, and incomprehensible to so many, but to those who believe and respond it is always the power of God.
Join me in Acts 16:31, as we listen to this simple explanation of the Gospel by Paul.
Acts 16:31 (NKJV) So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO "BELIEVE ON" THE LORD JESUS CHRIST?

I too had a bad experience shortly after I was saved. I got "love bombed" by this Church after my husband deserted us. Our daughter was 2yrs old and I was 7 months pregnant with our 2nd child. I wasn't familiar with the teachings of Benny Hinn and people like him but red flags started warning my spirit that this teaching was false. I went there for an entire year and I got to see, time and again, how they pulled more people into their Church with the same methods they used on me. They would love bomb each one until they were able to pull someone new in, then cast aside the old for the new. They turned on me because I resisted being "slain in the "spirit" and other such strange practices. I walked away from them but I was very mixed-up by their teachings for years. It took going to a Bible teaching Church and listening to Pastor's like John MacArthur, on the radio, on the way to work and Hank Henegragh,(sp?) on my way home. I thank God for teachers like Pastor John who teach the truth!

Just look at the life of Jesus, God's Son, when He was treated by His own creatures. What do you expect? Big time sinners interact with other sinners, like you and me. I don't know what was done to you, or how you were treated, I just gave a point to look at the Savior and not on people, because there will always be sinners who are saved by Christ (or some maybe not, or not yet) in every local church. It will always be beneficial to attach yourself to a true Bible-believing, healthy church who takes the word of God as their life depends on it; because it does. And hey, Hebrews 10 also gave us that charge to meet and fellowship.

@@FollowTheTrend798 No, not at all. "Working" out your salvation comes after you are already saved. It simply means to walk with Christ. The fear and trembling is not because you have to be afraid of losing your salvation. It's a fear of falling into temptation and losing fellowship with God. A fear of straying from the straight way and facing the consequences and conviction of sin and ultimately facing discipline from the Lord. Sometimes that discipline can be severe but you're still saved. That's not going to stop the pain of correction though. That's what I fear and I think that's what the passage is conveying. I hope this helps :)

@@robbiemckenzie7822 He isn't confusing at all, he is saying that if you have not made Jesus the Lord of your life and you have no desire to obey Him, then you are not a follower of Christ. The Bible says that "faith without works is dead" and "you will know them by their fruits", also If you call yourself a follower of Christ but hate your brother, then the truth is not in you . These are what is known as carnal Christians. He is not telling us to add works to our salvation to be saved but to make Jesus the Lord of our life and then He will give you a new heart that desires to obey Him. Jesus said that He is the Vine and we are the branches and that all the branches that are dead and don't produce good fruit will be thrown into the fire and burned up. Remember the parable of the fig tree? His message is clear to me, If Jesus is not Lord of your life then you are still on the throne and that leaves you incapable of obedience and left in bondage to your sins.

Salvation is a free gift of God to those who believe on Jesus Christ. Salvation and service are two different things. AFTER you are saved, you SHOULD have service. Some have much service, some have little service, and others have no service, but you are still saved no matter what based on your faith in Christ alone (1 Corinthians 3:13-15). Romans 4:4 "Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." It is not of yourself and not of your works (Ephesians 2:8-9). Tying what you do yourself and your works back into salvation or proving salvation or maintain salvation or risk losing salvation is putting works back into salvation. Salvation is about trusting and believing in what Jesus did on the cross when He died for our sins, buried, and rose from the dead. Salvation is NOT about your self-righteousness or works of righteousness or changing your behavior or changing your life or turning from sins or obeying the commandments. Those are things that SHOULD happen after being saved but it is NOT REQUIRED to be saved. Teach and divide the word of truth.

He is saying that obedience is not something YOU do, it’s something GOD works in you if you are truly saved, so it’s not a “work” that YOU can boast in. It’s not “works righteousness”, which is actually what “religion” is.

Matthew 9:15 Authorized (King James) Version 15 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast. Revelation 20:1-3 Authorized (King James) Version 20 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 and cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. 2 Peter 3:8 Authorized (King James) Version 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. Mark 2:24-28 Authorized (King James) Version 24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? 25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? 26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him? 27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 28 therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. Isaiah 58:13 Authorized (King James) Version 13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath,from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight,the holy of the Lord, honourable;and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways,nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Are you getting the meat with the milk 🥰😇 If there is no darkness during the thousand years. I have listened to your sermon for 47+ minutes & respectfully comment as follows 1. Please indicate what version of the Bible you are quoting from. I use the King James Version (1611). 2. It doesn't sound like, in mentioning the scriptures you quote from Acts, that Paul had not yet had his experience in the Arabian Desert where he received the Gospel of Grace to take to the uncircumcised gentiles (Acts 28:25-28. 3. Paul wrote just over 50% of the New Testament yet 90%+ refuse to preach his Gospel of Grace as the ONLY Gospel to the gentiles - perhaps you can tell me why! 4. Paul was the only one to receive the Mystery (Roman's 16:25) which he answers in Colossians 1:26-27 & Galatians 2:20! 5. In Galatians 1:8-9 Paul makes it very clear what happens if we preach ANY OTHER GOSPEL THAN THE ONE HE PREACHES! That pretty clear to me! I could say more but if you could comment I would be extremely grateful because, why Paul's Epistles were ever included in the Bible, I battle to understand as 90%+ of Pastors/Teachers/Prophets refuse to preach it other than SELECT certain scriptures out of Paul's Epistles to suit their particular man-made religious doctrines whereas Paul clearly says that we are ONE IN CHRIST! . Galatians 3:26-28. Blessings.

How do we know we are saved? God tells us exactly, in First Corinthians 15:1-4. That Christ died for our sin, according to the scriptures, that He was buried and rose again on the third day, according to the scriptures. Romans 1:16. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the POWER of God unto salvation to EVERYONE that BELIEVETH, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. John 3:18. Believers can no longer be condemned, but UNBELIEVERS are condemned already because they have not believe on the name of the Son of God. Romans 5:19-21 Where sin abounds, grace much more abounds. Romans 11:6. Colossians 2:13. He has forgiven us ALL trespasses. Jesus paid our sin debt in full on the cross so we are no longer condemned to hell. John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me HATH (PRESENT TENSE) EVERLASTING LIFE. John 10:28-29. Hebrews 13:5. First John 2:2 And He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but for the sins of the whole world. Back to the great commission which is to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. The Gospel, First Corinthians 15:1-4. That Christ died to pay our sin debt we owe God so we do not have to pay for our sins. Jesus paid it all and we paid 0. Romans 4:5-8. Romans 3:26-28. For He is the JUST and the JUSTIFIER of them that BELIEVE in Jesus. You cannot boast in a free gift that we did nothing for but BELIEVE it. And Paul had this to say about that gospel. Galatians 1:6-9. Though we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that we have preached unto you, LET THEM BE ACCURSED. As we said before, so say I again. If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received from us, LET HIM BE ACCURSED. To add to or change the message of the gospel by any means is to pervert the gospel of Grace, and add works. Romans 11:6. Romans 1:16. Romans 6:23. For the penalty for sin is death, physical death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus finished work on the cross plus nothing. Galatians 2:21. I do not void the grace of God, for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ died for nothing. IF we add one work to grace we have perverted the gospel by making it by works which cannot save a sinner which we all are. All the good works in the world can not save a sinner. We can only be save by the shed blood of Jesus who died to pay for the sins of the whole world. John 3:18. Romans 4:5-8. Without His perfect righteousness imputed to our account we can not be saved. Our self righteousness is nothing but filthy rags before God. Second Corinthians 5:21. For He hath made Him, Jesus, who knew no sin, to become sin for us, so that we might be made the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God IN HIM. Second Corinthians 9:15. Thanks be to God for His UNSPEAKABLE GIFT, ETERNAL LIFE. First John 5:13. These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God, that ye may KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. John 5:24

The preacher is correct. Believing in Jesus transcends the simple belief that he is God. Even Satan himself believes in Jesus, but he decided to do things his way rather than Jesus’ way. Like Satan, a person who claims they believe in Jesus but doesn’t obey Jesus, will probably end up separated from him.
@robbiemckenzie7822
@robbiemckenzie7822 Год назад
Satan believes yes as do we. Difference is, Satan cannot be forgiven. Christ died for the sins of people including those saved who live like hell. And the simple belief part, well even Paul called it the "simplicity of Christ" This pastor gives messages on eternal security and then will turn around and give one that makes you think he believes Salavation can be lost. Believing in Jesus will never make you perfect. The best Christian you know had a secret sin, something they struggle with and will til they are dead. But like the Lord told Paul, my grace is sufficient .

Satan has no choice but to “believe in” Jesus. His belief isn’t based on faith, but rather a pre existing knowledge. Don’t forget that he was there in heaven at one point.
@PizzaDisguise
@PizzaDisguise Год назад
Satan does not “believe in Jesus.” Satan can’t die like a human, so he can’t believe in Jesus to raise him from the dead. That’s what the focus of faith is- to share the same faith that Christ shared towards God about the resurrection of the dead. Romans 4:24-25 [24] but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, [25] who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification. 1 Peter 1:21 [21] who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

@@jeffreypaulross9767 evening Jeffrey, hope you’re well, my name is Brady. So James 2:18 -19 is really interesting: I’m convinced that verse 19 is James’ opponent speaking, not James. If so, it means the ESV translation I use has ended the opponent’s quotes early- it should go through the entire verse 19. If you grant me this, for a minute, then the interpretation goes like this: James: “[17] So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. [18] But someone will say”… Opponent: “You [James] have faith and I [opponent] have works.” Opponent: “Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” [sarcasm; assumes faith is invisible and can’t be shown] Opponent: “[19] You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe-and shudder!” Then James starts his rebuttal of his imaginary opponent in verse 20 (“You foolish fellow”). The opponent is trying to assert that faith and works are separate; that one can truly believe and have no good works. Also, he tries to say that faith is invisible and can’t be shown. That’s why he brings in his “clincher” argument that demons “believe” and do evil, while James believes and does good - “does well.” See earlier verse to confirm that doing well means doing good works. James 2:8 [8] If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. There’s an error in the opponent’s assumptions, otherwise his logic would have just disproved justification by faith. The error is that demons haven’t obtained a faith in the Lord Jesus. They may “believe that God is one,” but that isn’t a faith that leads to loving one’s neighbor as yourself and it doesn’t justify someone. Otherwise, why would someone say “You [James] have faith and I [opponent] have works,” and then stop- there’s no argument there, it’s a dead end. That was long, blessings.
