True words. I’ve come off a strip job down a dozer road loaded with 40 ton of blue gem coal and started to rain, I had my door open in 2nd full Jake. I was in a 75’ DM800 Mack. That was the day I learned it wasn’t all fun and showing off, you can get killed real quick.

If you're not a truck driver, have no interest in becoming a truck driver, and think there's nothing you could possibly learn form a video like this... You can always learn that truck drivers do things for a reason. If you're annoyed at the big rig going too slow in front of you remember that truckers are the life blood of commerce and without them the economy collapses. They're trying to be safe (some of them anyway) so cool your jets. You'll get around when you get around.

I learned the A/C trick by accident in my 5 speed Tacoma years ago. The A/C put so much drag on the engine, you could feel a slight jolt through the cab if you turned it on. When I drove down the Malahat, I would turn the A/C on and shift into 3rd. The entire way down, I would only have to lightly tap the brake once. So it definitely works!

As a kid my parents knew id loved to be a long haul driver like truck or greyhound just being on the road, but not as a career. I can only admire from afar with videos like these. Im in college for finance. Thanks alot.

When he said creating drag on the engine, I knew he knows what he's talking about. My father explained this exact same thing going down El Cajon pass into L.A. during one summer.

@cmoney220
@cmoney220 2 года назад
@@amerahstevens5864 exactly like the video explained. Use as much retarding force as possible without using your primary brakes. Anticipate going into that steep grade. I'm not a trucker by trade. Just listened to the things that my father used to say. I'm a railroader so I can kinda see the theory. We use dynamic brakes and the engineer will KNOW his territory and will anticipate hills/curves etc. Know the condition of your equipment and its limitations.

By the time you know it your down the grade and gone bout your business. I love your patience and appreciation for the scenery/view. Enjoying the ride safely is what I think trucking is all about.

Couple summers ago a guy came down i70 (high country Colorado) and he lost his brakes. Used a whole pile of cars and people as a way to stop. I remember how dark the smoke was. I was a couple hundred yards away

Awesome video man. Keep them coming. I was taught at a young age up here in northern NY in the hills, a decent rule of thumb is, you go down a hill in whatever gear you go up the same hill loaded. But today with these electronic motors you can do it a half or even whole gear higher. Love your stuff man. I’d love to BS at a show or something some day.
