Straight Razor Handle and Finishing

Part 2 of making a straight razor.
In this video I will:
Design the handle,
Prepare the handle material,
Finish grinding the blade,
Shape the handle,
Assemble the razor,
Sharpen the razor.
My biggest mistake here is the pivot pin. Most straight razors use a much thinner pin stock such as 1/16 rather than 1/8. I also shouldn't chamfer the ends of the pin as much, nor should I have left it so long. In the future, I will use smaller pins.
For better explanations on sharpening from more experienced creators, I would recommend you check out Walter Sorrells, Burrfection, Japanese Knife Imports, and Gough Custom to name a few.
For far better experience and knowledge regarding straight razors check out Lewis Razors. Most of what I know of making straight razors and their handles is from watching his videos.

20:45 cute :) It's nice to see someone curse when things go wrong and it's nice to see things go wrong! You learn a lot more from mistakes then seeing everything done picture perfect. Thanks for the video.

Awsome video! Sucks about the handle cracking, but I bet that's how all of our luck goes from time to time.

That it does. I've thrown a hammer a "few" times while working at my anvil...

The handle should be thinner. So the angle can be more tighter to the face. A 35° angle for a less likelihood of cutting the face

I'm glad you liked it! And yeah, ruining knife handles isn't much fun. So far I've split the handle material three times on straight razors, and I've only made two...

Would it be less likely to split if the pins was shorter? Not so much material to pein over might keep it from widening too much and splitting the wood. I am just thinking out loud, and know not of what I speak. Correct me at any time.

That is a major factor. The pin is also a bit hard, so it doesn't deform as easily. The strikes are a bit heavy with too heavy of a hammer which transfers energy deeper into the pin stock. The pin is too large in diameter which allows it to apply more force on the wood and the wood doesn't give enough to allow for the pin's expansion.... There's a lot of reasons but probably 70-80% is the length of the pin and how much I tried to get it to spread.

I came here looking for comments about Billy-Ray Sanguine. I am disappointed.
