I don't even shave anymore and I would be proud to own that Straight Razor. Can't say "They don't make 'em like they used to" with you. Awesome work man.
Love the aesthetic of this razor. The smooth wood finish in the handle meets the roughness of the forged finish, meets the precision of the blade. Beautiful.
My father taught me how to shave with a straight razor, wish I had his, and would like to show my son how to use one. this razor would be a nice gift for him along with some bonding time for us. Stay safe!
Nice Razor I have been watching your videos for a while I lived in Idaho from middle school through High School then went into the Army so it's nice seeing a fellow Idahoian find success not only with a business but a youtube channel as well!
I really appreciate that you explain science behind the design elements. I’ve always wondered how they maintained the edge on the strop. Brings back found memories of the old time barbershop I grew up with.
This is legitimately impressive for a first time build, I couldn't tell you the number of times I've been watching "restoration videos" and they get to making the scales of a restored straight razor and they make something that looks awful and isn't ergonomic. Your scales look like factory produced ones made by a high end company. I've never seen a straight with such a thick spine/tang, but I'm fairly positive all of the production razors today are cut out of flat stock, heat treated, and ground out with no forging. Your shaving technique isn't terrible, but you need to pull downward/upward on your skin with your fingertips to pull the skin taut to get a really close shave, and avoid nicks and weepers. When I'm evening my sideburns I generally pull downwards at the corner of my jaw.
I’ve been following the channel for a while now and am always curious about new and different projects. You’re the main trigger that I took up knifemaking and even did a bladesmithing course a week ago. So thanks for the awesome work and inspiration. Keep it up :)
As a hobbiest smith who follows your channel closely, bought one of your fine hammers, and has a beard to maintain, I’d be stoked to end up with that fine razor.
Nicely done. An unplanned side effect of watching this for me was the decision to buy more wheels for my 2 x 72, so this was an expensive few minutes for me!
And when I first subscribed to your channel I think you were at about 15k and still a long way from moving to Texas. Well now, THAT didn't take long! It's been great watching your content and seeing the channel grow! Be safe, stay healthy and God bless you and your family. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Hope you forge more of these in the future. I'd love to get my hands on one. You should try a three pin scale setup. That way, the edge is not resting against phenolic. Awesome job!
I came across your channel a few weeks ago and it has quickly become one of my favorites. Really enjoy the format. Thank you for creating very informative and interesting videos.
As a smith, I've admired straight razors from a distance, so to speak. My hollow grinding skills could use great improvement before I tackle one. Great project!
Any use of a straight razor that does not result in massive bleeding is a "win", so I'd say your shaving skills are plenty adequate 😉 Nicely done, and GL on reaching your 100K subs soon!
Not a knife maker, however love knives. Always enjoy your insight on the steel and the forging. I hope 100K comes soon, would be more than happy to win this straight razor. Thanks for your commitment to your channel.
It was really fascinating seeing the razor take shape. It is often taken for granted that straight razors are easy to manufacture, but you have shown that good razor takes a lot more effort and skill. Great work! It was a joy to watch.
This was such a cool build. Seeing the way you "etched" the makers mark was fascinating. One day I'll have my own shop so I can stop living vicariously though my favorite craftsmen. Looking forward to the next video's.
Looks amazing! I do a little blacksmithing myself and have had a lot of interest in forging a straight razor. I learned a few things from this video. Thanks!
Awesome job you did on that, thank you so much for showing all these processes, very interesting. Congrats on breaking ninety thousand, 100K is on the way! Have fun, be safe, enjoy the holiday season.
Great looking razor! And congrats on almost getting to the 100,000 subs milestone! Been a subscriber since almost the beginning and always look forward to your videos when they come out.
Nicely done. Razors are a unique challenge and it's not until you start making them that you have to figure out ways to solve their inherent problems. Props :)
you make it look so easy and I love your videos. haven't dared to go ahead and make a straight razor myself but want to try 😁 keep going and make them cool videos best regards Johnny from Denmark
Great job man. I really enjoy watching your videos. This is a project that I’ve been wanting to do for quite some time now but haven’t made the time to attempt it. You’ve inspired me to go ahead and give it a try, so thank you.
