The introduction scene from the 1978 cult film, STRAIGHT TIME. Stars a mustached Dustin Hoffman as a criminal trying to go 'straight' after being released from prison.
yeah.the film has little music, to it's credit.and I never was sure if it was right for the content, but it must be since I've seen it 50 times. this shit is too much, tho.clips are all we can get, while all he best R&R is free.I will buy this on DVD. it's about time.even the outro music for some reason fits. one of the best crime films ever made. I guess Hoffman had trouble w/ the studio, and his memories are not happy ones.
Great flick. Too bad that beginning dialogue scene with that parole officer's gone from YT. And no Theresa Russell ... Maybe someone could post those..?
A good film with great acting from Dustin and his co stars reflecting the complex dynamic of coming out of prison and navigating the parole system. The principle character has a strong sense of personal moral rules yet they mainly lie at odds with society's rules and thus he has a Shakespearian tragic flaw which dooms his attempts to re-integrate society. His parole officer exemplifies many in the carceral system who singularly lack compassion and understanding yet Hoffman's character is arguably not fit to live in freedom. A lingering question left unresolved is if he had had a more humane parole officer could he have gone straight. Teressa Russel puts in a compelling performance as a romantic young woman ready to support a man who does not meet any of the standards extolled by the society in which he lives except for ruthlessness and self assertion.
+Gene O'Brien I agree, it sounds like music for a TV series about a befuddled sheriff or cop in a sleepy Southern town who's looking for a break at the big time.
