I am 86 and I always said if things, usually bad, didn’t happen , you would end up having no memories. Now that I am 86 I can tell you that is also true. all these bad things become adventures that your mind remembers and become a big part of your life…. quite enjoyable actually. Good things just become part of an overall memory and not specific in your memory at all. The exception of course outstanding good things…like the birth of your baby or meeting your beloved always remain in your memory’s
If in the budget… Do a cruise trip to Alaska! And don’t skip the First Class Train Ride from Anchorage to Denali. You and your viewers would NOT regret any of it!
Maybe a "slow travel" series, where you pick one accommodation for 2 weeks but that still has interesting days out within an hours drive? Eg Bordeaux - city stuff, vinyard trips, arcachon on the train. Its still travel, but maybe more restful with a nearly toddler on the move? Or van life in NZ before Noah turns two and his ticket is a full fare? Break the journey up in Singapore and Australia?
I took delivery of a new Fiat Ducato based camper 2 years ago. First trip to France, we had the same problem with Adblu system and ditched in Dijon, sleeping on Fiat's forecourt on a Sunday night. They had to order a new part from Italy which took 10 days to arrive. Imagine my anxiety level rise as I watched your video and your need to get home. Well done in getting it sorted! 😊
Jeez that does not sound like fun at all having to wait 10 days! Since filming this we’ve heard that there is a very common issue with the adblue sensors in these vans.. not great!
@@TravelBeans I hear the same about the sensor. I think it's a known problem they haven't escalated as a recall. I didn't tell my partner about the warning until we were near a garage to save her the worry whilst we were skiing.
We had the exact same issue with our Peugeot boxer van - after cold weather in the alps too! Ended up getting an ECU/mapping specialist to 'delete' the Adblue system from the onboard computer, far far cheaper than having the tank or other sensors replaced. Also a permanent solution and has no impact on MOT tests in the future, worth considering!
Yay ditch the van (for good idealy). Bored of watching ex travel vloggers (because of covid) with their regular what's gone wrong with one of many vans this time vlogs. I want the good old days of you eating something unhealthy but delicious and lots of lovely beautiful scenery with the odd bird thrown in. Sorry for the negativity, maybe I need a better health session. Ps, why is your microwave so bloody high up sure you struggle to reach it up there
Adblu faults are well known. My Ford transit developed a fault after parking on a steep hill in Sheffield during lockdown. It thought the tank was empty and went into limp mode all the way back to chester over some very steep hills. It took two days to reset itself and hasn’t done it since. The sensors in the tank often go faulty. The adblu crystallises when it’s exposed to air. I’m glad your van was okay after a simple reset.
The trouble with many channels is that however good, they can get stale. Your sincerity, evolving lives and "prediliction to attract interesting challenges" keeps me glued to your channel. Sooo looking forward to whatever difference you come up with, and with your trump card - Noah. it promises a world of 'very different to anything before'. Please keep staying you!
When you put Ad Blue in, do not immediately turn the ignition on. Turn it three quarters power, wait 30 seconds, then turn ignition on & you won’t have a problem.
Glad you got sorted. You can buy your own diagnostic computer for reasonable cost and you could have reset it yourself. But it would be a very scary situation when you don’t know what’s happening.
We found that when the adblue light didn't go out after we filled it up again that it was because we had to run the van for longer . Short journeys weren't flushing it through. When we went further and got up to speed on the motorway for a longer journey, the light went out.
That can happen but in this case it's a different problem, the adblue needs to sit for a while for it to get proper reading, this problem was still there next day.
I also wonder what the problem was. In the manual of my car it claims that after refilling AdBlue I have to keep the ignition on for 30 seconds without starting so the AdBlue system can recalibrate. 🤔
hey we live near Limoges! It's not an industrial city 😂 It's the home of porcelain and there are some amazing old buildings there. Steeped in history. Glad you enjoyed it in the end though :)
Next time you come to America, do a transatlantic cruise. The repositioning cruises do many stops and are less expensive. Y’all are such a sweet family and Noah Bean is so cute and chill.
I love how you guys always find a way to laugh even when finding unwanted drama. I too have that same knack for finding unwanted drama. Lol I’ve evcepted something will always come up and I’ll just roll with it.
Stressful of course, great outcome though!! Easy fix and no charge, always good. You are very brave to drive through the snow the way it was, very scary so close to a drop! Glad it wasn’t a total bust!
Great to see you back, you’ve been missed on here and Patreon. France is so beautiful I worked there for a year on Euro Disney and now I’ve a motorhome I can’t wait to go back and get to see so much more. On a side note I support you on Patreon and for the last 4 months I’ve been on the 2nd highest level but haven’t seen the end credits change at all, is there something I need to do? Regarding your future plans I’d love to see you doing what ever is good for your family.
I suggest purchasing a vehicle computer code reader OBD2 (on board diagnostic s). Also make certain it can clear codes as well. You may not be able to repair the condition (like in your tour of the French Alps. This is what the mechanic did. He did not fix anything. ) but it will cancel the "Limp Mode" your rental van was suffering. Common issues are Emission Leaks caused by a dirty oxygen (O2 sensor). This is not dangerous. To be sure, look under the vehicle at the catalytic converter, if it is glowing red hot..that is bad. Get to a garage quickly. Beyond that, you will have a clue how severe the other codes are and can decide what the proper action will be for repair.
Another common emissions code is for a loose petrol cap. Tighten it and perhaps wipe the gasket off and apply a thin smear of Vaseline or any grease you have in your kit...bacon grease, hemorrhoid cream etc...to the rubber seal.
France seems to be the place for random strandings! Back in January, I was road tripping through France, Belguim and Luxembourg with my toddler and we almost got stranded in the middle of nowhere in France. But you're absolutely right about the bad stuff making a trip memorable - the highlight of that day was the carbonara (of all things!) we had in a supermarket cafe in this small rural town whilst I planned the way out of the situation we were in!
I've been watching what mischief you have been up to over the past few months this weekend - fantastic and most enjoyable vlog for me to stumble across - thank you for your honesty - can't imagine being in a campervan with a baby - I'll be staying tuned to see what you decide is the best fit for the next chapter of your journey
would love to see you both go on a very package holiday/hotel with creche all inclusive built in beach swim up bar egg on chips deal. HONESTLY. would be such a change from your usual adventures and would be interesting to see if you can both manage to sit and do nothing for ten days lol! lots of love x
We think you need a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Unwind, enjoy the beaches, the food, it’s a very friendly family place. The locals all come out on Sundays with the kids and just enjoy the life. Cheers ❤
An Alaskan cruise could be a nice change and you wouldn't be in charge of the boat so hopefully no issues there. Or a private yacht in warm waters somewhere. Or you could try out different/unique airbnb's, and plan to stay more than one night in each one so you have time to actually enjoy them and the surrounding area.
My husband and I love your videos. One idea that came to mind would be a European River cruise. There would be lots of variety like van life with the many stops but an itinerary/food/housing already planned and you don’t have to worries about all that.
I used to do fundraising for our kids' elementary school and I 100% would bring my cute 3 year old when I would go to businesses to ask them to sponsor the school. So glad the van was fixed super quickly! What a relief, especially after stressing! Rick Steves always says "stressful experience + time = funny travel story" so you're set there!
Oh wow, another thank-you government thing for diesel engines. Dang governments! From Fiat UK website: “New Euro 6 Diesel engines have an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalytic converter which uses AdBlue® to limit nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. AdBlue® is not a fuel additive; it is a water and urea solution kept in a special tank, which must be refilled periodically when required. This technology ensures compliance with Diesel emissions requirements without reducing your car's fuel-efficiency, handling, torque and power.” 😮
Trading in vanlife for another mode of travel right now sounds perfect! It would be lovely to have lodging with more room for your little guy to RUN! He'll be off and running soon! And maybe you could have space for the two of you to stay up past his bedtime. Wouldn't that be a treat? Just go do whatever it is that makes your wonderful little family happy!
What to do next? So, i took a peek at your playlist & saw some nice places you guys have visited. But, i didn't see Australia, New Zealand or South Africa!!! What cha think Travel Beans..... South Africa!!!
Alex! Emma! Noah! :) We love your videos, thank you for all the effort you put into them. Happy Happy Mothers Day Emma, you are both wonderful parents :) We think you should do a series meeting other RU-vidrs. Re the AdBlue, when it gets really low, you need to fill it up quite a lot to get the sensor to reset, did you fill it up to the top? The Adblue tank takes 9.5ltrs, when ours is low, 5ltrs isn't enough to clear the warning. x
So glad the fix was so quick and painless. You two have had too much drama - you need to chill and take sweet Noah to a warm weather place so you can actually relax.
Go on a sailing trip! You deserve 8 weeks in some awesome islands! Get a captain for the 1st 2 then just sail away.. every one wants to go sailing! Show them what its like for brand new sailing family! Looking at weather windows, dropping the hook, and living 100 % free! Please! You'd get 1000s of views! Id be 1st!
Happy new mums day. I know the panic warning lights and dashboard messages can generate. They are designed to frighten you into 'compliance'. But for reference the adblu system injects a chemical (pigs piss basically) into the exhaust to neutralise diesel emissions. If the reservoir runs low and you fill up, the lights don't always automatically cancel, turning the engine on and off a few times might be all you need to do. If it doesn't cancel then what you did was correct, but the dealership technician probably just reset the codes. It is a fault that any roadside assistance (RAC etc) would be able to solve in a few seconds. Do you have international roadside assistance? Might be worth the piece of mind.
I’d like to see you take flight to the US, to NASHVILLE TN , we will host you at our guest house and you can use our car to tour the area…stay as long as you like and we will even babysit Noah while you go out to the country music bars in Nashville!
what about try a Narrowboat... that would be awesome... you can live on one, hire one... they are great I;ve done a holiday one for a week, But I watch people on utube that actually live on them do continue cruising.... I could see you guys doing/ living on one..
love you guys! How do you stay so calm when Sh*T hits the fan? I would be gripping at my spouse so bad. would love to see you guys take Noah somewhere warm and easy for the sake of your ability to relax! Or maybe just rent a sweet luxurious cabin and enjoy the great outdoors with Noah! Also the Zoo is always a hit with little ones!
WOW you packed a lot into that vlog! So sorry for your loss that had to put a under lying stress to the trip home. Alex is so creative I wonder what he had planned for Emma. I love how you embrace a challenge and end up having a good adventure. As a suggestion how about a river cruse? Your love for exploring new places and the joy/comfort of reliable transportation and accommodation all in one package!?
Come over to Australia, I know you have history here but head over and enjoy sun, sand and a great laugh.. we are doing a 6 week Mel - Exmouth return over Dec/ Jan if you want to join in an adventure.
I don't know if you have done it before, but a canal narrow boat trip might be interesting. Or, maybe a tropical cruise. Your luck at the dealership could be the start of a run of good luck.
How about finding a great location for you guys and Noah and rent an apartment for 3-6 months and explore where you are? Have you been to southern Italy? Puglia or Calabria? Monopoli is an amazing location in Puglia to explore from. Great beaches, exciting day trips and lots of walking. Don't go after June though it's really hot there...Carry on Beans.... Gina in Upstate New York USA moving to Portugal. Hey when you are back in USA with your camper van you have got to see UPstate NY. Corning Glass Musem, Watkins Glen, Ithaca and all of the lakes. rochester is a gorgeous city. Don't go in winter though too much snow. Fall is the best...I will still be here look me up.
Once the ad blue sensor kicks in, and you’ve put more in, all it needs is the sensor fault cleared. It’s to prevent you continuing to drive without the additive going into the fuel mix. Great video, I love you karma, good luck.
It's an certain fluid that helps diesel engine anti pollution systems do their job: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_exhaust_fluid There's usually a separate tank and filler nozzle hardware for it in modern diesel powered vehicles.
Have to admit that after 27 years living in France, I was feeling a bit pessimistic about the situation at the Peugeot dealership. Customer service (outside of restaurants) can be a bit rubbish - and from experience we've not had the best service from Renault garages. But then again, I live in the Paris region. So that probably changes my outlook. Great that things got sorted. Playing the baby card won't work for us now, son is 17 and very big and tall, daughter is 13. Make the most of it. LOL
That warning message was a confirmation that I had made the right decision ordering a gas Ford transit instead of a diesel Mercedes sprinter. In the US every small town has a mechanic that can work on a Ford van. For the Mercedes you have to find a dealer and they aren’t in small towns. I agonized over the choice, but I’m happy with my choice .
Are you still interested in finding land in Portugal? I see the Indie Projects are listing their 5 acres + off grid cabin soon if not already. Have you seen it? I'm thinking you must know (or know of) Bee & Theo. ❤ Lauren
It worked for me as well when I took my daughter to The Taste New Orleans In San Antonio TX people kept giving me there credits for food and drinks so we basically ate for free
At least you had a bonus stay! Glad it was a simple solution in the end! Cheers from downunder Melbourne! Enjoy all your trials and tribulations plus the good times of course!
Nice video guys! We had the Adblue system error on our old Audi TDI in Spain driving to the Ferry in Bilbao with our 2 kids, it thankfully reset itself on and off a few times to get us home but totally relate to the stress and anxiety of it. I sold the diesel in the end and got a petrol instead to avoid it next time
If you leave the ad blue to almost empty, then refill it, evidentally it is common for the warning sign not to go off. What you should do, is never let the level get down to the warning sign and keep it topped up towards the full level, so I have been told ?
OH MY GOODNESS, how stressful that was for you with the warning messages coming up in the van but how wonderful that it was such an easy fix by the dealership AND at no cost! Looking forward to your next adventure xxx
