Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Alex & Emma, a British couple (and first-time parents!) who have been exploring the world together for over 10 years.. enjoying all kinds of travel, from backpacking to vanlife!
After years of work hard, save hard, travel, repeat - as well as a huge battle with depression, we decided that we wanted to turn travel into a lifestyle. So, in 2017 we both got jobs teaching English online and bought one-way tickets to Bangkok with just £500 in our bank account. We still can't quite believe that our younger selves decided to take this plunge but we are so proud and grateful they did as we are still on this journey today!
We love sharing the highs and lows of our trips through our videos and hope to spread a little positivity and light to all of you beautiful people who take the time to tune in and watch each week!
We hope you enjoy our videos and thank you for taking time to watch!

The UK has become such an unpleasant place to live now unfortunately, you cant recharge and you cant go anywhere unless you want to be in a crowd, even in the hills. Everything is a rip off. Im not surprised you want to move away
The best way is to stay every 2nd day in a campsite and make use of the showers and washing facilities, plus they usually have a clubhouse where you can have a bevy and not worry about driving.
😂 Get ready for this to be over as millions of expat Portuguese are heading back to Portugal to retire from Canada and the USA and they all speak English so good times ahead. With the cost of living in Canada there is not a single Portuguese person we know that will retire here they are all moving back.
I'm Portuguese. A thousand times I like nature more in France or Suisse or another country. I don't understand this sudden obsession with Portugal. The difference I see is that Americans, for example, are very different people. They seem to have discovered "gold". These are people who come from countries where you earn a lot more money, so it's easy for them to live a rich life here. They have more tax benefits than us. I don't like having them here, especially Americans, who bring fanatical religious ideas, when we are not very religious. Here only the elderly go to churches. I am 60 years old, I have 3 daughters, my parents were raised to go to the Catholic Church, but after becoming adults, they became Atheists. Baptize my daughters! No way, I don't have the right to impose a religion on them as soon as they are born. Today they are grateful and each one has their own idea, none of them believe in God. Americans bring religion with them and this has always brought wars. Look at America and wars in the 21st century. Then they come here and publish everything, post videos. The Portuguese don't do that. And so more and more foreigners arrive. I don't like seeing so many foreigners here, when they have the biggest country on the map to expose. Exposing these small lands in videos on RU-vid brings them money, but the locals bring robberies, elderly people found dead in house, for robbery. If before they lived in peace, with the door open all day, they left the key in the door. These people are used to having everything at home. They keep their memories, money, etc. There have never been any problems, RU-vidrs arrive and ruin everything. They live with security cameras all over their land, the locals can't afford it. There are other videos out there, talking about History, I've been studying our History for 50 years and I don't know much, they go on EKipédia, without correct sources and they already make videos missing from our History, all wrong!!!
I emigrated from Portugal to the UK in 2002 with the precise idea that the work ethic in this country was quite superior than the Portuguese one. In the UK, in 6 months, I was promoted from basic position at my job to management and I was always very proud of that because I assumed my work ethic and skills matched the level of the British people but I know now that I was only better! I became a staff manager and this was in 2008 so we still hired staff from around Europe and we opted for a British citizen, which was the only one under my management. One week or so after being recruited, this young man, from London, approached me and, with all the ease in speaking his mind, said that, he would not work Christmas or New Years Eve and that I should cover the shifts myself or get someone else to do it. I explained that his job was a shift position which would rotate ever 4 days with 2 days break and that there was nothing I would do about that to accommodate his demand. He insisted so I went up my rank and he ended up being removed from the team but not before he insulted me and threatened me for having gone to Management about it. That was just the beginning of a long and continuous period of disappointments until today. Unfortunately, there is DEFINITELY no better work ethic in the UK than there is in Portugal and I had to use the legal system to get contractors to comply with their own terms.
What put me off about Sweden is that as a British I can't live there with my partner who is from EU. She has to be resident there for 5 years before I can move in with her.
Been through this journey. I'm a Brit and now live in a cabin in the woods in Sweden. Always expect to pay a lot more than the asking price. Look for places about 20-30% less than your budget. We paid just over a million for a small cabin with 2 acres of land and only 1 and a half hours from Stockholm
You seem like good people and wish you the best of luck. My advice from a new first time house buyer (and as a Swede) myself my advice is to be patient and try to keep up a good mentality about it. It IS emotionally draining to look for a new home and getting your hopes up etc. But being so excited for it and feeling disappointed when losing the bidding war is a good sign that you are on the right track in life. If you would have felt indifferent to the outcome it would have been pointless after all. Also, buying a house is kind of like dating. You rarely end up with the first one you date, and you need to know what you are looking for while having a "plenty of fish in the sea" like mentality (after all, there are thousands of lakes, cosy cabins and great views in Sweden. Especially up north.). As well as having the mindset that no matter the outcome, it is at least a great learning experience and give you a better idea of what to look for and keep in mind for the next time.
Oh, millennials, already a bit wrinkled and gray and finally getting excited to be an adult haha. I feel you, I am a millennial too but one of the last ones, from 95', so I'm still in my traveler's mood, but on the other hand I already feel like I need a baby and a house ,but how if I feel like a big kiddo and I think I'l be a teen mom haha
In portugal people from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan buy Portuguese passport and driving license with money. Then they go to Switzerland. How it’s possible for a European country let this kind of things to happened! Danger in road!!!
I'm Swedish and also daydream about owning a little house or cabin in the woods. But then i usually come to my senses and remember the darkness, bitter cold, mosquitos, isolation and general costs of maintaining a house. I think i'll stay in my apartment and rent a cabin for vacation instead.
I've heard that the mosquitos are really bad at lakeside properties in Sweden and that you have to live under a net. Another level from midges in Scotland in summer.
Just intrigued! What visa route are you thinking of for Portuguese or Swedish properties? I have an Icelandic husband and my right to residency in the EU hangs on by his employment contract that’s to the wonderful B-exit 😅
There is a kayak camping trip just like you described in the USA! It is located in Lake Superior, I believe on the Minnesota side. Kara and Nate took the trip via canoe and it looked amazingly beautiful!
Hey guys! Firstly, a big fat “no way” can I eat tentacles and suckers 🤢. I’ve been told that freshly cooked octopus is bueno!! I don’t know what I’ll do when I catch up with all your vlogs 😧 so keep on filming and educating and making me smile and laugh!! 👏🏻👏🏻😃🍦🍦🥰🙅♀️🙅♀️
The wisdom at 3:30 is timeless. Ultimately, I think we're bound to get bored eventually in any circumstance. Just look to the ultra wealthy. That's why I think eternal life is more of a mode of being that's infinitely sustainable into the future than an infinite amount of time.
You guys are so relaxing and fun to watch. Wake up drink my coffee and watch you and your adventures and having Noah in the mix watching him grow up and seeing how great you both are with him makes my day, So sorry you didn't get your house but you will find one maybe better than the last don't rush it. But anyway Stay Safe, Safe Travels and Love and Prayers Always see you in the next video. God has a plan for you guys and maybe that's why you didn't get that house he may have a better place if store for you guys think positive always.
For people thinking of moving, yes houses are cheaper. You need to learn the language, if your one of those Brits that doesn't really want to speak another language and thinks you can just speak English the whole time your going to end up feeling isolated.
